In case you don’t follow me on Instagram or Facebook you might have wondered where I’ve been for the past few days.
Or, maybe not. Anyway, I’m back. I’ve been busy fighting off some kind of bug and then volunteering at the Chicago Marathon. Both of which led to a lot of sleeping this weekend. Man, I really do love sleeping.
Which is why I’m glad that I saw this week’s Pinned it and Spinned it prompt on Instagram because, wow, did I need some inspiration this week. Monday’s outfit still gave me some issues, though, because I wanted to wear my navy lace ankle pants but the two navys just didn’t go well together. And then I almost wore my navy pencil skirt but it felt constricting. So, jeans it was. And a dog photobomb. I have to admit: days like today it’s really nice to be able to wear jeans. I know that my original intent of this blog was to show you how to dress for the office when you can’t wear jeans so I hope you guys don’t mind jeans a bit more often than normal, especially as the weather gets cooler. At the very least, I hope to show you that you don’t have to look like a slob even if you do wear denim to the office!
Really quick before I dash out the door for a weekend away, I still feel REALLY weird wearing sneakers to work. But, my feet were killing me because of the shoes I wore yesterday and sneakers sounded good.
Basically, it may feel weird mentally but physically I’m enjoying that sneakers are “on-trend”.
This outfit felt really, really casual and there’s no way I could have worn it to my old job. But, it fits right in at my current place of employment and it was perfect for a day when I just wanted to be comfortable.
I based my outfit on something I found on Pinterest when I searched for “casual Friday sneaker outfits”.
Thank you, Pinterest.
What do you think? Did I get close?
Also, I have to say, I LOVE living in the city. Love, love, love it. I rode a Divvy bike to the beer event on Wednesday and then walked home (with a stop at a neighborhood bar on the way). I was able to get a last minute eyebrow (and lip, let’s be honest) wax on Thursday on my lunch hour without even leaving my office building. I rode a Divvy bike back to my neighborhood on my way home and stopped off at a local boutique to buy a gift. And all of that was super easy.
Never thought I would be a city-loving girl who wore sneakers to work, but there you have it.
Let’s see. Today is Friday, my boss is out of the office, I have no meetings, and we’re on the cusp of a three day weekend. This calls for an extra casual Casual Friday outfit! My default Friday outfit tends to be jeans and a blazer but I just wasn’t feeling the blazer today. Thank goodness for this inspiration photo I had pinned with a striped shirt and a burgundy cardigan.
For those of you looking for casual outfit inspiration, this one’s for you! This outfit would be perfect for a weekend. Pair it with riding boots in the winter or wear a striped tank top instead of a long-sleeved shirt for warmer weather. Add heels or sandals to change up the look a bit, too. This is a great canvas to work with! Heck, you could even put it with shorts instead of jeans.
I, however, will be spending much of this weekend in workout clothes. Tonight I have trapeze. Tomorrow I will be running 10 miles, Sunday I’ll be biking 30 miles, and on Monday we’ll hopefully be planting flowers on our balcony.
What do you have planned for the weekend? What will you be wearing?
Did you know that I actually wear contacts? Ever wonder why I never wear my eyeglasses? Well, I’ve worn them once before on the blog back before I actually had any readers! So, for all intents and purposes, you guys have never seen them before. In fact, the reason I very rarely wear them outside of the house is because for years I had trouble finding any that fit my small face and head and I think have some form of Post-High School Stress Disorder about looking ridiculous in photos while wearing my ridiculously huge glasses.
As I mentioned, I have a very small head and face. So small, in fact, that past hairdressers have even commented on how tiny my head is! Which makes it difficult to order glasses without trying them on. Thankfully I also wear contacts so I can at least see myself when I’m trying on glasses. But for years the style in the glasses’ world seemed to be that they were huge. In fact, my last pair of glasses before my current ones were Nintendo brand! Yes, they were kid’s glasses.
Thankfully glasses have gotten smaller over the years and now I can finally buy my glasses in the adult section of the store. Still, it also means I’ve never tried to order glasses online since I’m terrified they’ll still be huge on my face.
Which is why I think the Virtual Mirror from GlassesUSA.com is a great idea! It lets you upload a picture of yourself and then “try on” different pairs of glasses.
What to try it out yourself? You can even save your favorites and then send the pictures to your friends for their opinion right from the website!
So, the next time you need prescription eyeglasses or just want to see what you think you’d look like in certain frames (or just need to kill some time at work) why not check out this website. You can also get 15% off + get free shipping on any order over $50 using code FS15 or 10% off any order of prescription glasses using code Blog10. The prices are actually reasonable and I love that you can share the photos with friends to get their opinions!
Do you wear glasses?

Happy day after Thanksgiving! Are you on your couch recovering or have you been out shopping since midnight? I’m not one to go all crazy with the shopping on Black Friday, believe it or not. I prefer to shop when it’s nice and quiet and I don’t have to wait in lines a mile long.
Although, if I was going shopping I’d probably wear something like this. Flat boots are comfy to walk in and layers up top make it so I can strip down if I get too warm. The scarf add some visual interest to the outfit so it’s not too blah.
I wouldn’t wear this to work, however. It’s definitely weekend or work holiday casual. But if I wanted to dress it up for work I’d swap out the skinny jeans for black dress pants, wear a nicer black blouse instead of a crewneck t-shirt, and and wear black, brown or nude dress shoes.
So, tell me, did you do any shopping today? How was your holiday? Or did you just have a regular ol’ Thursday?

Look. If it’s going to rain during the work week I’d much prefer it rain on Friday. That way I can wear jeans! Rainy days make me want to dress comfy. So my rules for rainy days are:
1. Wear jeans you can tuck into your rain boots or a skirt or dress. Soaking wet cuffs are never fun.
2. Have some fun with your rain boots. They should be comfy but why not get them in a fun pattern? Chances are you won’t be wearing them all day so show a little spunk on your commute.
3. Feel good in your outfit. Rain can make you want to curl up on the couch in your pajamas, not go to work. So put on some of your favorite pieces that will make you want to get out the door and show off.
Also, you may have noticed I’m wearing white after Labor Day. I love these jeans. They can be tucked into my rain boots. This outfit can be accessorized a million ways from Sunday. So it fits all my criteria. Bah I say to the no white rule!
P.S. Thanks for all the suggestions on yesterday’s post! I’m planning to rework this outfit in the near future.
P.P.S. Last night’s Fashion’s Night Out fashion show at Macy’s State Street was a blast! Thanks to Corals and Cognacs for letting us know about it. I got some fun outfit ideas (printed pants, anyone?) and had fun hanging out with Molly and Heather. Plus I finally got an opportunity to wear shorts and heels which is something I’ve been dying to do for awhile.

Sometimes you just have to go with the old standby – black. It always looks professional, you can dress it up or down and it goes with just about anything. In fact, when I got married I asked my bridesmaids to wear a black dress. They got to choose whatever they wanted. I knew that black dresses accentuated with lavender shawls (my gift to them) would look incredibly classy.
So when I don’t know what to wear I pull out my black pants and pair them with a fun top.
Black may not be the trendiest thing on the planet, but it’s always in style.
But what about those trendier items? Do you want to see what they look like in the real world? Or maybe you just want to see how to jazz up a pair of black pants in other ways. Well, now’s your chance!

Basically, Wednesdays are YOUR day to tell me what you want to see!
Monday. Some Mondays are easier than others. Today is not one of those easy ones. Sure, the sun is shining but it’s still cold outside! Where is my warm spring weather???
I originally had on gray pants with this top and scarf but I just wasn’t feeling it. So out came the skirt and tights at the last minute. It occurred to me as I walked out the door that a belt would take this outfit up one more level but it was too late at that point.
On the bright side, I’m doing a fun challenge this weekend. I’ll be posting about that later this week and asking for some reader participation so stay tuned!
Another warm day, another skirt sans tights. And another day where a good chunk of my outfit came from the same store. The Limited just makes it so easy since so many of their pieces coordinate nicely!
Do you gravitate towards the same stores over and over again? Where’s your favorite place to shop?
