Another Le Tote outfit coming at you today! I try to wear the pieces all in a row so that I can send the box back ASAP so apologies if you’re tired of hearing about it.
I put this floral shirt in my Le Tote closet because it’s not something I would normally pick. I figured that this was a good chance to try it out and see what I thought. And at first I was thinking I’d wear it with a plain black sweater and jeans or maybe my black vest. But then when I was looking for something else in my closet I found this old sweater vest and thought, hey, those colors are similar, let’s go for some pattern mixing!
But then, of course, I struggled with what pants to wear with it. At my old job I would have worn my gray dress pants but that felt way too stuffy for my new office culture. So, I decided this was a good excuse to see if I could find a pair of gray jeans. I’d put this particular pair on my Pinterest Shopping Lust board awhile ago and it turned out they still had my size in the store.
I’m not 100% sold on the pairing of the preppy vest with the floral top and the moto jeans, though. Maybe if I had some killer booties to wear with it? The black flats just aren’t doing it for me. I’ve also been wanting to add some gray booties to my closet as well but, sadly, I haven’t found the perfect pair. Too bad Le Tote doesn’t do shoes, too!
Welcome to the first day of the Mutually Inspired Series where Jen from Librarian for Life & Style and I use outfits one another has posted in the past to create new outfits for this week!
My outfit today comes courtesy of Jen’s post “Purple suede and pattern-mixing” where she paired an argyle sweater with a pinstriped button-up, jeans, and suede shoes. Since I’m working from home today I got to wear jeans, too!
Here’s the amazing thing: everything I’m wearing today I’ve had for YEARS. Seriously, this shirt is older than my college best friend’s marriage. I know because there’s a picture of me wearing it the day she got engaged.
Same shirt, back in the day
Just goes to show you that there are certain items and patterns that just never go out of style. Are they trendy? Nope. Just classic. Argyle sweaters and striped oxford shirts and two of those patterns.
Now, don’t forget to head over to Jen’s blog to see which of my outfits inspired her today!
P.S. Full disclosure: I took all my outfit photos on Sunday since it is supposed to rain all week in Chicago. My rain boots will be getting a workout this week. But I promise I really am wearing these outfits this week!!
Ms. Hurley is wearing something that is very on-trend right now: velvet. Which just reminds me of the black velvet pants I had in high school. I don’t currently have anything velvet in my closet so I just went with the color scheme here and stuck with black and grays.
Although, to be honest, I could have worn jeans today. I’m not in the office (took a vacation day) but I still wanted to show you how to take a casual inspiration photo and make it work appropriate.
Also, don’t forget about my contest to win a $50 Visa gift card! Two comments before November 22nd as well as helping me hit either 100 Facebook likes or 200 pageviews a day for at least 5 days. For your reference, here are the stats so far:
Facebook Likes: 65
Days with pageviews over 200: 2
Thanks for your help, everyone!
And thanks again to Molly for taking my outfit photos this week! We took them all on an abnormally warm (and windy) Sunday so if I seem underdressed for current Chicago conditions that’s why.
I originally had on a skinny belt with this outfit but at the last minute took it off. I just felt more streamlined in the outfit sans belt.
Also, I can’t believe I’ve never worn this combination of sweater and skirt before. I always wore this sweater and shirt with black pants. But now I love it with the gray skirt! Just goes to show you that breaking out of your clothing rut results in some awesome finds!
This vest and this top were bought when LOFT was having 60% off of all sale merchandise. They were kind of impulse buys but since stripes are really in this year I’m thinking I’ll get a lot of wear out of this top.
The downside to the vest is that it’s made of some kind of furry acrylic and it sheds all over everything. So even though I no longer own dogs my jeans end up looking like I do.
Sorry for the disappearing act! I wasn’t in my office last Friday so I didn’t post a photo. I was taking part 5 of my six part professional certification exam (I passed!) and then picking my mom up from the train station and hanging out.
Not too sure how I feel about this outfit. I think, once again, it highlights just how short my torso really is. What you can’t see is the shirt has very fine silver pinstripes on it. I’m never really sure what to wear with it. I guess I should look up some inspiration photos for white collared shirts, huh?
