Little Miss Sunshine

About Me

Because I’m a frequent commenter (or maybe because she just likes me) Bethany nominated me to answer these 10 random questions about myself! Since this week is all kinds of crazy I thought today would be a good time to share my answers.

1. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were little?

I think the very first thing I ever wanted to be was a veterinarian. To be honest, I’m not sure why I didn’t pursue that. Maybe for the same reason I didn’t pursue becoming a forensic pathologist. The amount of schooling required freaked me out.

2. What’s your writing utensil of choice?

A pen with black ink. I’m not that picky beyond that. A fine-ish point is nice but I don’t have a particular brand to which I’m loyal.

3. If you need to ask someone a question and that person is not within earshot (i.e.: talking isn’t an option), are you most likely to text them, call them, instant message them (either through gchat or otherwise), or e-mail them?

For most people, it’s email. With my husband, it’s text. Or email if I don’t feel like typing on my phone. Please do not make me have to call you. I really, really dislike the phone.

4. What was your preferred study location in college? (Or now, if you’re currently in school)

I recall doing almost all my studying in my dorm room. Although, there was at least one occasion when I spent almost the entire day at the library. Multiple psychology research papers, baby.

My home for two of my four years: the room directly above the front door.

5. What’s your stupid human trick? (i.e.: ear wiggling, tongue rolling, etc.)

I honestly don’t think I have one! I mean, yeah, I suppose I can roll the sides of my tongue up but that’s not THAT unusual, is it?

6. How many e-mail accounts do you have active right now?

Four, including my work email. I really need to learn to use gmail better. It would probably make my life easier.

7. What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Sautéed and roasted red pepper and onion with polenta with white wine and thyme sauce. Leftovers from this recipe (we ate all the sausage at dinner…)

8. What’s your favorite type of weather?

75 and sunny, please. With low humidity.  Although, if I want to go for a run I want it to be in the 50s. And if I want to race all out then the 40s are preferred. Otherwise I want weather where I can wear shorts and a tank or pants and a light jacket any time I chose.

9. Have you ever met anyone famous? And if so, who?

Ben Folds.  And, yes, I have photographic proof. It’s even pre-Facebook. Complete with photo-bombing guy before photo-bombing was even a word.

10. What’s your ideal mode of transportation?

Teleportation. Oh, wait, that hasn’t been invented yet. Um, I suppose it depends where I’m at and where I’m going. In Chicago I much prefer the train over the bus and while I’m not a fan of cabs they do come in handy. Driving is preferred in the suburbs or in my hometown but I avoid the car when I’m in the city. Flying is best for any trip over 6 hours if I can go non-stop. Although I’m typically a nervous wreck until we land. But it’s better than being in the car forever!

I’m supposed to tag 10 other people but, eh, you can answer any of these questions in the comments if you want. I’m bucking the system. Look at me being a rebel.

The ABCs on the Fourth of July

About Me

Happy Fourth of July, Loop Looks lovers! I’m taking the day off from posting an outfit since I’m not going into the office and my day consists of running a four mile race and then who knows what. So, instead, I’m posting the ABCs of me that Katie tagged me to do last week. I hope you enjoy your holiday (if you have one) or just enjoy your day (if you don’t have a holiday).  Now, onto 26 random facts about yours truly.

A. Attached or Single?

Attached! I’ve been married for 10 years as of May 2013.

B. Best Friend?

6 years ago the person I considered one of my best friends lived two states away and I only had one other friend in the town I was living in. Now I have more friends than I ever thought possible and many of them live near me! Near enough that I can coordinate with our other friends to do this to one of their kitchens.

And, yes, those are pictures of Nic Cage. Totally my best friend.

C. Cake or pie?

Pie, please. Preferably apple or pecan.

D. Day of choice?

Now that I’m not marathon or half marathon training I love Saturdays. When I wake up I know I have two whole days to do whatever I want!

E. Essential Item?

Hand lotion. I have so many bottles. And especially now that I do trapeze the chalk we use really dries out my hands. Right now the palms of my hands are sloughing dead skin! Lovely image, right?

F. Favorite color?

Most shades of purple.

G. Gummy bears or worms?

Bears, I guess. I don’t really go out of my way to eat either one.

H. Home town?

Champaign, IL

I. Favorite Indulgence?

Gelato from Mariano’s. I am trying to be good and not walk there every night after dinner!

J. January or July?

Well, my birthday is in January but it always feels so close to Christmas that I feel like people are partied out. But I’ve been throwing myself parties the past few years and enjoying them. Although, I much prefer the warmer weather in July. But, strangely, I’m gonna say January.

K. Kids?

Nope. None. Ever. We’re cool with that.

L. Life isn’t complete without?

At least one day a week to sleep in. I looooove sleep. So much.  I look forward to my “sleeping in” day(s) all week.

M. Marriage date?

May 25, 2003

N. Number of brothers/sisters?

I have no biological siblings but I have a stepbrother and a stepsister who lived with me 50% of the time starting when I was in sixth grade.

O. Oranges or Apples?

Apples, please. Oranges have that weird fuzzy stuff on them. The only time I will devour an orange is if someone hands me one during a marathon. Then they are like the nectar of the gods.

P. Phobias?

I hate snakes. I will scream at the top of my lungs if I come within feet of even a garter snake. Just ask Kim.

Q. Quotes?

I’m not really an inspirational quote kind of gal. Give me a Simpsons quote any day. My most used? “Hello? Mrs. Pommelhorse? I’d like to get down now.”

Strangely it works in a lot of situations.

R. Reasons to smile?

Someone says something funny. I get an email from a friend. I feel good in my outfit. I crushed a hard workout. I found the perfect gift for someone. My posts get a lot of comments (hint hint). Someone tells me something I did for them makes them feel good.

S. Season of choice?

Even though I said I like January earlier, I still prefer summer. Yes, it can be hot. But it can also be beautiful. Winter is rarely beautiful. It’s usually just gray and gross.

T. Tag 5 People

Jen @ Librarian for Life and Style

Kelly @ Running Kellometers

Kelsey @ Ready, Set, Feast

Anne @ Anne Really Blogs

U. Unknown fact about me?

I originally planned to major in microbiology in college. Ended up with psychology instead.

V. Vegetable?

Green beans. The first vegetable I willing chose to eat and still one of my favorites to this day.

W. Worst habit?

Going too long between washing my sheets and towels.

X. X-ray or Ultrasound?

An MRI is kind of like an x-ray, right? I actually like MRIs. Enforced nap time! (see letter L)

Y. Your favorite food?

Pizza. With veggies. But no artichokes or olives. Blech.

Z. Zodiac sign?

I’m a Capricorn.

My Version of the Academy Awards

About Me

Recently Jen and Brittany nominated me for the Sunshine Award and the Versatile Blogger Award!  I thought this Sunday was a good a time as any to accept my awards and give you what they ask for:  random facts about me!

First up, the Versatile Blogger Award!

  • Thank the Blogger who nominated you
  • Share seven (7) random facts about yourself
  • Nominate (15) fellow bloggers that you recently discovered or follow regularly
  • Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs
  • Add the Versatile Blogger Award to your post

So, seven random random fact about myself…

1. I can read a book and then a month later not remember any details about it.  Which is why I have to read books for book club the week before or I won’t remember anything.  Good thing I read pretty fast.

The most recent book I attempted to read.  Got bored.  Never finished it.

2.  My first job out of undergrad was entering traffic ticket information into a computer database.  Sounds boring, right?  I actually loved it.

3. I’ve run three marathons.

4. Some day I want to be able to do a pull up or a chin up.

5. I’m horribly allergic to cats.   Good thing I’m a dog person.

This is Trinka Deu.  She passed away in May of 2010.  We don’t currently have a dog.

6. I’ve been married for almost 10 years.

7.  The two foods I prefer not to eat are olives and artichokes.  Otherwise I’ll eat almost anything.

And now, the Sunshine Award!

The rules for the award are:

    1. Include the award logo in a post and/or on your blog sidebar.
    2. Link to the blogger who nominated you.
    3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
    4. Nominate 10 other fabulous bloggers and ask them 10 questions.
    5. Link to your nominees in your post and let them know about the reward.

And here are the 10 questions from Jen with my answers:

1. Do you put up Christmas decorations early, or wait until after Thanksgiving?

I definitely wait until after Thanksgiving if I put them up at all!  We won’t be in our apartment for Christmas this year so I might not decorate. But in the past at our house I had fun going all out…in the living room.

2. Favorite Bond woman?

Seeing as how I’ve never watched an entire Bond movie from beginning to end, I can’t name a single one.  Sorry!

3. Favorite artist?

As in, music, painting, sculpture, what?  Or do I get to pick?  Regardless, I’m much more drawn to the type of art rather than the person who created it.  This summer we bought what I would consider to be our first grown-up art when it caught my eye at a street festival.  And no, I don’t remember who the artist is.  Although I stuck the card in the back of the frames when we framed these.

4. Be honest, do you still have any VHS or cassettes around your house?

Part of me wants to say yes, but another part of me wants to say that we tossed them all when we moved in May.

5. Favorite holiday?

Any holiday that I get off work?  Does that count?

6. What’s the last book you read?

As mentioned earlier, the last book I attempted to read was American Gods by Neil Gaiman.  The last book I finished was Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.  Yes, seriously.  It wasn’t that good.

7. Braids or buns?

Buns, but only because I can’t braid my own hair.  I can barely put it up in a bun!

8. What’s your favorite time of day?

Late afternoon/early evening.  My favorite time to work out and then chill with dinner and a glass of wine is when the sun is setting.

9. Do you find it hard not to smile when being photographed?

If I’m looking at the camera, yes.  If I’m looking down or away, then no.

10. If you could travel anywhere right now, which locale would you choose?

A friend and I are trying to plan a trip for next summer to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado.  If I could fast-forward time I’d go there!

And that brings us to the end of these awards.  But, I suppose I need to nominate the next round!  So, in the interest of consolidation, the people I nominate can either give us 7 random facts or answer 7 random questions!

Those people are:

Katie @ Alaskan Weredork

Kimmie @ Blue Paper Lanterns

Emily @ Out and About

Kelsey @ Ready, Set, Feast

Sierra @ Posh Meets Pavement

Mica @ MicaPie

And if you want to answer the 7 random questions, how about these:

1. Best vacation so far? | 2. Mac or PC? | 3. Do you consider yourself to be a morning person? | 4. Pie or Cake? | 5. Describe one of your phobias. | 6. Least favorite food? | 7. What is something you think you SHOULD do but you just don’t bother?

Have fun!
