Actually, I don’t have zoo photos for you.  Sorry to disappoint!  We ended up having to skedaddle out of the zoo to catch our bus and I felt awkward asking my coworker to hang around longer while I took photos of myself. He doesn’t know about this here blog.

Anyway! On to the outfit.  You may be wondering what’s up with the random blue necklace.  Well, I originally saw this combo of tan, black, and leopard with a blue purse and thought it was something I could recreate.  I don’t own a blue purse so instead I went with blue jewelry.  Sadly, the weather is not conducive to leopard print ballet flats today so brown riding boots it is.

You know what’s also not working today? My brain. It’s been one heck of a week at work and I’ve been getting up early to get in my training for the Illinois Marathon. This will be my fourth marathon but the training never gets easier.  Which is why days like today I love that I’ve saved so many outfit ideas on Pinterest.  Makes getting dressed so much easier.

Tight Tights

Funny story about these tights.  Last week a reader (Hi, Aparna!) asked me where I got these tights.  “Target!  Merona brand!” I answered confidently.

When I got home and changed I quick looked at the tag.

Does anyone remember Kathie Lee Gifford?   Yeah, she kind of dropped off the radar in the late 1990s.  Before that she had a line of clothes at Walmart.

Which means that these tights are at least 10 years old, if not older.  In fact, I’m pretty sure there are photos of me wearing them in high school if I think about it hard enough.

Say what you will about Kathie Lee and her Walmart line, but these tights have certainly held up.

Thanks again to my guest photographer, Molly from A Foreign Land!

Blazer – The Limited | Dress – NY & Co | Necklace – JC Penney | Shoes – Nine West

Inspired by Laura and the fact that I will be attending a strategic plan launch event this Friday afternoon, I went dressy casual with a maxi dress and a blazer.

I couldn’t get a good picture this morning, though.  This is what happens when you try to squeeze in pictures before work and your tripod is a highboy patio table.

Oh, and the sun’s in your eyes.

Regardless, I think this is a fun way to dress up a maxi dress for work.  Don’t have a maxi dress?  What about a long skirt with a top and a blazer?   Don’t forget the statement necklace!

Special Something

Last year I ran the Madison to Chicago Ragnar Relay with a group of people from work and some friends we recruited from outside the office.  One of those friends is Tom.   I didn’t know Tom before the relay but we’ve been friends on Facebook since.

Tom is an amazing man of many talents.  He is one of the most giving people I’ve ever met.  So when he was raising money for the Special Olympics he incentivized his friends to give by offering a free photo shoot for anyone who donated.

Tom and I met up today to take some photos.

He definitely has an eye for photography!  I’m excited to take these photos and create some fun things out of them.

I’m stupidly in love with this outfit.  And I never would have thought to put it together except I saw the idea on a fashion blog:

And thanks to Pinterest, I was able to pull the photo up on my iPhone while getting dressed Wednesday morning and recreate the outfit!

I got quite a few compliments on my necklace, as well.

All in all, a feel good outfit for me.

I’ve also worn this outfit this way in the past:

Cardigan, Top, Belt & Pants – The Limited

Shoes – Karen Scott/Macy’s

Necklace – Overstock.com/Race goodie bag

Today I skipped the belt and left the cardigan open.

Which way do you prefer?

Since I have no torso I prefer todays’ look.  It’s a little “sloppier” but I think it makes me look more proportional.

I have a bonus photo for you!

Tuesday was my husband’s birthday and this is what I wore to go out to dinner.   We didn’t go to that fancy of a place but sometimes you’ve just got to get a little dressed up!  Especially when your husband bought you the dress for Christmas.
