I actually wore this outfit a few weeks ago, but instead of wearing it with my gold sandals I wore it with my blush flats (seen here). Those silly flats. I keep thinking I should replace them since I bought them YEARS ago from Target and the toes are all scuffed up and I don’t know how to polish colored shoes. And then I don’t because otherwise they’re in good shape. In fact, they’re in better shape than some of my more expensive shoes.

Actually, I think I’ll be asking that question of the Shoe Drop people on Friday. How the heck do you polish shoes that aren’t black or brown?
I also wore this top and sandals with white shorts last Thursday to get dinner and drinks during Nellcote’s pizza and a beer happy hour. Sadly, their happy hour special no longer includes just any beer on the menu. It’s now just pizza and a Modelo Especial for $10. It’s still a good deal, though. And Modelo Especial is a nice summer beer. Although, apparently not all the bartenders got the message since the guy next to us ordered the happy hour special and the bartender let him pick any beer he wanted. As someone who trains people as part of my day job I find situations like that to be an interesting case study in how different places cascade (or not) information.
Nellcote also has a doggy happy hour from 3-5pm on Saturday and Sunday that I really want to try and take Chewie to at some point. Although, as you can see from the picture below, Chewie’s idea of happy hour is being left alone to eat the flora in the planters at the park.
This week’s Style Imitating Art challenge featured “Una and the Lion“, a painting full of neutral colors, a woman in a dress, and some animals. Therefore, I bring you my own version, also full of neutrals, a dress, and an animal: “Erin and the Chewie”.

This outfit was also inspired by one that Jen wore and it features the vest that I swapped with Jen. And since Jen chose the art for this week, basically this entire post is just all Jen all the time.
In other news, I’m meeting with a start-up this week called Shoe Drop to learn more about their business model and services. Basically, it’s a shoe repair service where you drop off your shoes at kiosks around the city, they pick them up, fix them, and deliver them back to the kiosk for you to pick-up. Perfect if you’re busy and don’t want to hunt down a shoe repair store. If there’s anything specifically you’d like me to ask, let me know! I never used a shoe repair service until I moved to Chicago but now I’m all about it since I walk so much and my shoes take a beating.
Speaking of which, I’ve been wearing these gold sandals so much that I bought another, similar pair. The reviews for my first pair said they run a half size big but I don’t agree with that. I ordered a 7.5 in the gold ones and they feel slightly too big. I ordered a 7 in the new pair and they fit perfectly. Just something to keep in mind!
After basically a week straight of dresses I finally got a chance to re-wear (and take photos of) this top and necklace I’ve been loving from Le Tote. Also, these jeans that I showed in my June Shopping Summary.
I really enjoy when I get two items from Le Tote that go together perfectly. It makes getting dressed really easy when I’m not feeling creative.
I’m also debating whether or not to keep this top. It’s super comfortable and it reminds me of a top I bought years ago and wore to death. I used to have a lot of items in my closet this color but now I barely have any. Weird, right?
Anyway, I think I’ve worn this outfit three different times and each time I wore it with different shoes. Once I wore it with my Bucketfeet sneakers. One day I wore it with a different pair of sandals. And yesterday, when I got home, I paired it with my new flat sandals to go to a meeting. I’ve also been wearing those over and over again. I’m even thinking I might get another pair. I don’t know why I held out for so long!
You would not believe the struggle it was to get photos of this outfit. Seriously. Hurdles I had to overcome included oppressive heat, thunderstorms that were so strong they destroyed a train stop near my apartment, and a husband (aka photographer) who was out of town with our “good” camera.
But, I persevered! Because it’s Style Imitating Art time!
I bought this dress years and years ago. Seven years ago, actually, on a trip to Sonoma & Napa. Facebook reminded me just yesterday morning how long ago that trip was. It’s still one of my favorite vacations to date.
Anyway, this weekend I was browsing the Tribeca boutique sidewalk sale and realized they had a ton of different dresses in this same blue color. So, if you’re in Chicago and need a blue dress, come on over to the West Loop! I didn’t need another blue dress but I admit I was tempted. Because, like I said last week, I crave dresses in the summer.
Don’t forget to visit Salazar’s blog to see all the outfits inspired by this week’s SIA choice!
Okay, okay, it might not be so cool today but, hey, I wore this outfit a while back when it was one of our cooler days. However, you will never hear me complain about how hot it is! I’ve grown to love the heat. Maybe it has something to do with not running as long of distances in the summer? I don’t know.
Or maybe it’s just that I’m not cool enough for my neighborhood anymore! Seriously, you guys. When I moved to Chicago’s West Loop the street about half a mile north of me was known as “Restaurant Row” but now it seems that the entire neighborhood is getting trendier by the minute! A new restaurant opens up every week it seems. We have two new boutique hotels going up. So many new condos and apartments that are already out of my price range. It’s crazy.
Oh, and McDonald’s is moving their headquarters to a few blocks from me. Not to mention Google has their building across the street from where we board Chewie.
Sometimes I feel bad for not taking advantage of all these new places but, hey, I’m not making “new” money so I guess I’ll just have to continue to be warm and not cool.
This weekend was a series of ups and downs for me. Originally I planned to take this outfit photo on Saturday but I couldn’t find the attachment I needed for the tripod. Plus, it was a gazillion degrees outside and I had to drive out to the suburbs to pick up my race packet for the triathlon I was doing on Sunday. And, of course, run errands. In the end, I didn’t take photos. Thankfully Jason was nice enough to do it on Sunday evening.

I created this outfit from this week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece. Originally I had it on with olive colored shorts since the temperature was in the 90s but when I couldn’t find the tripod attachment I put the outfit back, changed into denim shorts and a white tank top and flipflops and saved this one for work.
After running all my errands on Saturday I ended up passing out on the couch for a nap before watching Touching the Void while I ate dinner. If you ever needed a story of perseverance to remind you to keep going when it feels like there’s no hope, this is it.
I think that’s particularly appropriate today, don’t you? It also kept me motivated yesterday when I needed a little push during my triathlon. Which I finished in almost the exact same amount of time it took me last year.
I then got to have lunch with my parents before running a few more errands and then relaxing for the rest of the day.
Sometimes I let the little things get to me and make me irrationally upset. I think this weekend was a reminder that, really, my life is pretty good. It may not always be a bed of roses but when my biggest irritant is that I can’t find the tripod attachment or figure out what 2x4s to buy I have to admit I live a privileged life.
When I picked out items for my latest Le Tote I didn’t have anything on my calendar that would require a cute dress, but I added one to my shipment anyway. Turns out I then added the Pump Room summer menu preview event at the Public Hotel to my schedule and, voila! A place to wear a cute dress.

When this dress arrived I realized that I had the perfect shoes to go with it. And I was happy that I’d added the clutch to my Le Tote at the last minute, too. It all went so well together. And, yes, when we took this photo we made sure I was holding the Strawberry Royale since it matched my outfit, too.

I also tried two other drinks and all were so different! The bartenders at the Pump Room are super creative and come up with some awesome concoctions and were excited to show us how they were made. We also had some wonderful food but, let’s be honest, I’m really just there for the beverages. Although, their Salmon on Crispy Rice with Chipotle Aioli might be my favorite appetizer in the city. I could eat my weight in those. So good!
Anyway, I made Jason take a few more photos when I got home since I was too busy chatting with Emily and Kit while eating and drinking all the things to really get photos.
I’m very lucky to not only live in a city that has so many great places to try but also to belong to a blogger collective that affords us these opportunities.
I’m sitting here trying to think of something to write and I just can’t come up with anything interesting to say. Is it because I’m tired and my brain’s not functioning at 100%? Is it because I just really don’t have anything interesting to say?
I can tell you that Jason and I took these photos on Hubbard Street between Green and Ogden in Chicago. The side of the train trestle is adorned with a series of murals known as The Hubbard Street Mural Project. So there’s a little bit of interesting Chicago information.
I can tell you that I ran a 5K with Chewie last Saturday and planted flowers on my balcony on Sunday.
I can tell you that I signed up for a triathlon taking place on Sunday even though I haven’t swum a single stroke since August 2015 or done any triathlon-focused workouts. My wetsuit is probably still full of sand.
I can tell you that I’m trying to stick to my June goals and come up with date night ideas for Jason and I that don’t always involve going out to eat or spending money. Or, really, being outdoors or in crowds for long periods of time. Suggestions?
And I can tell you that I attempted both a squat and a bench press personal record (PR) on Tuesday. I managed a 15 pound PR in my squat but failed at getting a bench press PR. Win some, lose some.
So, I don’t know. Did I have interesting things to say after all? You tell me.
Bri at Work Clothes, I Suppose chose “warm weather white” as this month’s Third Thursday Threads theme and I kind of laughed. We’re still waiting for consistently warm weather in Chicago so you’re getting an outfit that I’ve also worn with my cheetah print wedge booties! So, you see, this outfit is super versatile and be worn all year round. Well, okay, maybe not when it’s actually warm outside but you get my point.
Also, I have to say, this necklace drove me nuts. It kept flipping around and ending up backwards. Does this drive anyone else nuts?
Also also, I fully admit I wore this outfit to meet Jason and Chewie at the dog park and my jeans stayed relatively clean, even though Chewie makes it his personal mission to jump on me like a crazed animal when I walk through the dog park gates. But, I promise I didn’t Photoshop out any paw prints!
There’s also a time of year (at least for me) when I realize that my hair is getting way too long and unruly. The question is always, though, what do I do? Do I cut it short (like I did last year) or do I keep it long? The longer it is the curlier it can be so it actually requires less work. Although, by the end of the day, it doesn’t always look great.
But, let’s be honest, whose hair does look great at the end of the day? Especially if you go to the gym on lunch and, uh, don’t shower. And if you says yours always looks amazing, well, then, I hate you.
