My Current Favorite Skirt

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

When I bought this skirt after seeing it on Sarah’s Real Life, I honestly didn’t know how much I would end up loving it. I’ve worn it at least once a month since I’ve gotten it. It helps, of course, that most of my other skirts are too big and this one isn’t. But even if that wasn’t the case, I’d probably still wear it more than the others.

IMG_8252Funny story – I honestly didn’t even notice that this necklace had pink in it until after I’d been wearing it for a few hours. Oops! Well, uh, let’s just say that it’s “light red” and I’m going for a monochrome theme. And the stripes on my shirt are navy. I promise.

Anyway, I tend to wear this skirt with neutral colors, specifically grays and blacks, so I wanted to take it up a notch and pair it with blues. Hence the bright blue shoes. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it and I almost changed my mind 10 times, but in the end, I went with it.

And I think it encouraged me to pair this skirt with my cobalt blue top next. Because, I mean, just looking at the photos tells me that a little color wouldn’t hurt anyone. What do you think?

Chilly in Camo

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Remember back in April when I did the 10 piece wardrobe challenge? And all I wanted to do was wear my white blazer? Well, this is one of the outfits I wore that I never got a chance to photograph. And I liked it so much that I wore it earlier this week.

Let’s not talk about how I could wear the same outfit in April and in June.  Stupid weather.

This past Tuesday evening my friend and neighbor invited me to go with her to see the Barenaked Ladies in concert at Northerly Island, an outdoor concert venue on Lake Michigan. Hard to believe, but even wearing jeans, ankle boots,  a long-sleeved top, a sweater, a scarf and gloves I was cold. In June! At least the concert was entertaining. Highly recommend going to see Barenaked Ladies even if you don’t know all of their songs. I don’t normally enjoy concerts but this one was great.

I suppose the only plus side to the chillier weather (and the fact that my desk at work is freezing until mid-afternoon) is that I can still wear blazers to work and not sweat to death on my commute.

And, yes, I just wrote a post that was mostly about the weather. My life is just that exciting.

An Anniversary Memorial

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

On May 25, 2003 Jason and I got married on a cool, windy day outside a restaurant overlooking a golf course in our hometown of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.

Twelve years later, on a cool, windy day in Chicago we celebrated by going to Dave and Buster’s and winning a giant banana.

It may not be a wedding dress, but this is what I wore for our anniversary outing.

June 2, 2015 + June 3, 2015 - 3 of 7Our anniversary typically falls on or near Memorial Day weekend and this year it was on Memorial Day itself. I admit, I felt a bit costume-y wearing camo and a necklace made out of a bullet on the day when we honor those we lost to war. Maybe my outfit was a tad insensitive but I didn’t think about that until afterward!

Regardless, I wore it again to work the next week on a random day that didn’t have any specific military connotations. Because I liked the outfit anyway.

And this time I even had a pedicure to go with my sandals. (Ugh. Worst segue ever.)

June 2, 2015 + June 3, 2015 - 4 of 7I was visiting my mom this past weekend and she offered to give me a pedicure. I wasn’t going to turn her down! Now, if I can just get her to do one every few weeks. You hear that, mom?

Casual Bling

Casual Clothes · Casual Friday

Once again, it may seem silly to be wearing a sweater when it’s practically summer but I liked this outfit so I wanted to share it with you.

It’s an interesting combination of bling (thanks to Rocksbox) and casual (thanks to my sneakers from Shopbop).

Most of the people in my office don’t wear a lot of jewelry so when I wear pieces like this I tend to get comments. Good comments, though. In fact, the day I wore this one I got a compliment on it. It’s fun when people compliment my Rocksbox pieces because I can tell them how much fun it is to try out new jewelry all the time.

Then and Now [Vol. 6]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring · Then and Now

Just over three years ago I wore red pants and black and white stripes on this here blog. And apparently it’s such a classic that I’m wearing it again today.

striped-cardigan-red-pants-2However, none of the pieces I’m wearing today are the same as they were 3 years ago. Yet, none of the pieces I’m wearing today were purchased super recently, either.

Which I think just goes to show you that the more things change the more they stay the same.

red-pants-and-stripesOriginal

Although, the necklace, the black blazer, the shoes and the striped shirt are all still in my closet. I really like to hang onto things as long as possible and only replace when they no longer fit, fall apart or no longer fit with my lifestyle.

Take the shoes I’m wearing today, for example. These are replacements for my black Bandolino wedges that had a buckle on the toe and that I wore until the insides literally fell apart. Bri had these on in a post and I thought they would be a good replacement. Turns out they fit great and are quite comfy. So, if you’re in need of black wedges than go for these. They’re on sale right now, too!

And while you’re at it buy some red pants and something striped. Because clearly you’ll get some good use out of those items, too.

Spring Has Sprung

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway for two passes to the Randolph Street Market!

Spring has definitely sprung here in Chicago! I spent my weekend enjoying the weather by running my fastest 10 mile race ever, taking Chewie to the dog park, and wearing the most perfect Spring scarf that came in my latest Le Tote box.

striped-shirt-peach-scarf-4striped-shirt-peach-scarf-5And of course I had to pair the scarf with my white jeans. They are part of my Top 10 Remix after all. Also, I’m apparently addicted to wearing them. I foresee a lot of white in my wardrobe this spring.

Of course, it helped that Jen chose a painting with earth tones and white as the main color for this week’s Style Imitating Art.  I immediately knew I wanted to wear these earrings for interpreting this painting when I opened up my latest Rocksbox. The white stone goes perfectly with the nature scene. They’re not anything I would have ever picked myself, especially because while it appears Kendra Scott is a trendy jewelry designer, I’d never heard of her!

Which reminds me: Lilly Pulitzer for Target. I do NOT get it. I really don’t. Not a huge fan of the prints and, from the sounds of it, women were just snatching whatever they could. I almost went to Target this morning for toiletries. Thank goodness I didn’t! And speaking of designers I don’t understand, Vera Bradley is another. So don’t get it.

Anyway, Kendra Scott. Not necessarily my style but that’s actually what I like about getting subscription boxes like Rocksbox and Le Tote. Their stylists help me try new things. Maybe I like them, maybe I don’t. And maybe they’re the perfect finishing touch to an outfit!

Then and Now [Vol. 5]

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring · Style Imitating Art · Then and Now

I was so proud of myself when I put this outfit together for this week’s Style Imitating Art painting which is totally gorgeous and right up my alley (see it here). Metallic and black and white? Yeah, I can do that!

faux-leather-shirt-two-ways(original)

Apparently I really like to wear this faux leather shirt with this cardigan!

Unlike some of my previous Then and Now posts, I like both outfits equally. Probably because the only thing I did was change my shoes and my necklace.

So, if you ever needed proof that I repeat outfits, here it is.

striped-cardigan-faux-leather-1Tomorrow I’m unveiling the 10 pieces I chose for Sarah’s Top 10 Remix challenge. I agonized over the items I wanted to choose so you know you don’t want to miss this!

Why I don’t like to do laundry

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite outfit of March!

Back in January I went to visit my dad in Florida and after a day touring the Ringling estate and museum we found ourselves at an outlet mall. I remembered that a coworker of mine had been raving about her Brooks Brothers no-wrinkle, no-iron shirts so I suggested we go into the Brooks Brothers outlet store. I ended up with a plain white shirt but also found this pretty blue striped one on the clearance rack.

brooks-brothers-shirt-jeans-4brooks-brothers-shirt-jeans-3I actually ended up wearing this shirt and my silver Sperry’s the very next day to watch horse racing. And I’ve now actually worn the shirt three times total but I fully admit I haven’t washed it yet. I’ve been told that it’s super easy to wash, dry, and shake out and it won’t shrink or wrinkle but I’m still scared! I like it a lot and I don’t want to ruin it!

Does that make me weird? Is anyone else afraid to wash their clothes?

Pinterest Parallels [Vol. 7]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring · Pinterest Parallels

In yet another edition of Pinterest Parallels I’ve gone ahead and copied mostly the top half of an outfit from Pink Avenue. White blazer, pink sweater and crystal necklace.

white-blazer-pink-sweater-1Blazer – Forever 21 (same) | Sweater – J. Crew Factory (similar) | Jeans – American Eagle Outfitters (same) | Shoes – Steven c/o Shopbop (similar) | Necklace – c/o Rocksbox (use code looplooksxoxo for a free month!)

white-blazer-pink-sweater-3I knew I wanted to wear this outfit as soon as this necklace came in the mail from Rocksbox. I do love a rhinestone necklace, that’s for sure. So of course I wanted an outfit that would show it off.

It also helped that I went to the gym before work and could pack my leopard flats into my gym bag while wearing my (snow!!) boots. Yes, winter has arrived again. And even with a sweater and a blazer I was freezing in my office so I think I’m going to have to layer up even more if I want to survive until summer.

And then, of course, I’ll need to layer up to survive the air conditioning.

More camo, more shiny

Casual Clothes · Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring

Last week we had a really interesting discussion about camo print pants. Many of you said you felt the same way I did and were excited to see how I would style them in the future.

Well, the future is now because here’s another outfit with my camo print jeans!

camo-jeans-gray-vest-1Jeans – LOFT (same) | Shirt – J. Crew Factory (similar) | Vest – Gap (similar) | Necklace – c/o Rocksbox (use code looplooksxoxo for a free month!*) | Shoes – c/o Shopbop (same)

camo-jeans-gray-vest-3Rocksbox gave me three month trial of their service so I could try it out and tell you guys about it. I’ve already worn everything they sent me in my first box and am looking forward to my next one!

Yes, Rocksbox is one of those services, similar to Le Tote, where you pay a monthly fee to borrow designer items. Whereas Le Tote is for both clothes and jewelry, Rocksbox is just jewelry. And so far they hit my style spot-on. You get three pieces and they can pick from your wish list or they can use your wish list to send you items they think you’d like. I’ll show you the other two items tomorrow!

And, yes, you can buy the pieces or you can just wear ’em, send ’em back, and get new ones!

camo-jeans-gray-vest-2I thought this necklace was perfect for adding a little bit of shine and femininity to an otherwise casual outfit. I wore this particular outfit to run a ton of errands over the weekend (Goodwill, Home Depot, grocery store, Target) and now I want to wear it too work. Too bad I already sent back my Rocksbox and I’ll have to wear something out of my own jewelry box that I probably won’t like nearly as much.

I still really like the outfit, though. Very comfy and practical. I also like how the gray works with the more muted camo print and keeps it all very neutral.

What do you think? Which camo print outfit do you prefer so far?
