We’re having really warm weather in Chicago this week but back when it wasn’t so warm I needed some layers! Bring on the vests, I say. And the turtlenecks. And the boots. And the stairwell that hopefully you won’t need to see for much longer since Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday!

I go back and forth between beer and wine. I like to have something when I get home from work and while I’m making dinner. I’m also easily suggestible when it comes to what to drink. Take this “prop” for instance. I saw a guy on the elevator one day with an assorted pack of seasonal Sam Adams beer so I bought it the next time I was the store.
Right now I’m on a red wine kick. But, as warmer weather gets closer I might move back to beer. We’ll see.
Oh, and because it’s not a stairwell photo shoot without a Chewie cameo, here you go.
A few weeks ago I threw together this outfit
but it only made it to Instagram. However, I loved it so much that I wanted to get better photos. So, I recreated it.
My original plan when I packed my gym bag that morning was just the plaid shirt. But, that shirt is kind of boxy on me so I felt it needed something to give it shape. My first instinct was to go for my olive cargo vest but I also felt that was a cop-out. This particular shirt has some black in it so why not go for a black vest?
Vest – Target (similar) | Shirt – Old Navy (similar) | Jeans – Old Navy (same) | Boots – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same) | Watch c/o JORD (same)
All piled together it kind of looked like a random assortment of stuff. Jeans, brown boots, plaid shirt and a black moto vest? Interesting. But, for some reason it all works together.
I also like adding the white long sleeved tee under the plaid shirt and pushing up the sleeves on both. I think it helps add some visual interest to the outfit. Also, when it’s cold in Chicago, it adds some warmth. Always appreciated, right?
I’ve never been one to change purses. I’ve also never been one to buy a purse for myself. In fact, I think I can count on one hand the number of purses I’ve purchased. However, when I saw this Vince
one during the last Shopbop sale
it just called out to me.
I was lucky enough to have some Shopbop credits to offset the cost of the bag, plus it was on crazy sale. It’s definitely an investment bag because of the classic shape and color, though, so I don’t mind that I spent more money on it than I usually spend on things.
This outfit, however, is one I wore when we were in Carmel, Indiana in December for the Caribbean Christmas Half Marathon. Which I ran. On a 60 degree day. Yes, in December. Weird, right?
Anyway, I ran the race (which ended up being my fastest half marathon to date) and then we went to Bub’s Burgers, home of the 16 ounce Big Ugly burger. Which I ate. Which means I got my picture on the wall at Bub’s. So, if you’re ever in Carmel, Indiana go to Bub’s and see if you can find me.
I am a woman of many talents. Including putting together outfits that showcase my new purse.
P.S. I’m thinking of doing “Fitness Fridays” here on the blog since fitness is also a big part of my life. I actually started blogging as a running & fitness blogger and I kind of miss it. Thoughts on adding that into the schedule here?

Seriously, I actually had a conversation with the owner and creator of North & Hudson clothing about how this is the perfect top to wear at home during the holidays. It’s just festive enough without being ridiculous, right?
I’ve actually worn it to work twice already and it’s also really comfortable. And, yes, it’s handmade.
It does, however, make me want a red scarf. Or maybe to do some pattern mixing with a navy and white striped scarf. Until then I’ll just wear necklaces.
What do you think? What would you pair with this top?
When it comes time to vote for my favorite outfit of December, I think it’s going to be this one. This dress. The scarf. The boots. The fun boot cuffs. The hat that gets me compliments all the time. Put them all together and I’m in love.

I actually wore this outfit the day I posted it on Instagram. I don’t always recreate outfits I post there but I loved this one too much not to. Good thing I ended up wearing it while I was home for Thanksgiving because the scarf alone got a family friend to sign up for Le Tote
(and got her $25 off her first month using code ERIN25. Just had to throw that in there!)
This scarf is SO SOFT. I just wanted to pet it all day. I also recently got the burgundy one
from Le Tote and am looking forward to wearing it soon, too.
I don’t know what it is about this outfit that I love so much. Maybe that everything fits perfectly? Seriously, the first time I wore this dress I debated whether or not I was going to keep it but you all weighed in and said I had to because it fit like a dream. You were right, by the way. I always feel like a million bucks when I wear it.
And paired with my favorite boots and a scarf that makes me feel like I have a puppy with me all day long? Yeah. I think this outfit is a winner.
By the way, these photos were taken in the park by my parents’ house. There are all kinds of fun sculptures there!
When I was at my parents’ for Thanksgiving Jason and I took the opportunity to take quite a few outfit photos. My parents live down the street from a great park so we went there to shoot. Good thing I’m not adverse to using port-a-potties thanks to all the races I’ve run! Yes, I changed in the one at the park. It was a really big one, though. Jason said if I changed in the car I might scare people.
Anyway, this is one of the outfits we shot. It’s actually one I created earlier in the spring for a day of getting breakfast from our favorite food truck
and going to the Apple store to buy my laptop. In fact, I was wearing this outfit when I became someone who drinks coffee and uses a Mac.

I’ve since worn this outfit to wander around town with my mom, to work, and a variety of other places. I love it because the sweater allows a t-shirt to peek out from underneath, the boots bring out the cognac in the scarf, and it’s perfect for a slightly chilly day.
The only thing I don’t like is that the sleeves are full length. I’m a weirdo who almost always pushes up my sleeves and I definitely prefer three-quarter length sleeves or bracelet sleeves to full length. Pushing up sleeves on sweaters, though, can sometimes stretch them out. So when I wear this outfit to work you’ll find me wandering around with my sleeves rolled up.
Speaking of rolling up my sleeves, I have to give a speech in Toastmasters on Thursday and I’m still trying to decide on a topic. I asked my friends on Facebook for ideas and several of them wanted me to talk about how I balance blogging, working, and volunteering with making time for Chewie, Jason and my friends. Not sure that’s something my coworkers in Toastmasters want to hear about, though, but it might be something I write about on the blog. The short answer: life isn’t always what it seems on social media. But you all knew that already, right?
I think one of the times I wore my camo jeans one of you mentioned that they would look good with red. That was the thought that was on my mind when I put together this outfit, not that I’d already worn such a similar outfit in the past.
But, hey, I see comments all the time that people like seeing the same pieces worn again so hopefully you’re not all like, “Ugh. Can’t she come up with something else?”
I’ve recently noticed quite a few Chicago bloggers getting awesome partnership deals, finding amazing photographers to take their photos all over the city, even appearing on ads around town.

I am not one of those bloggers. My photographer is my husband. I don’t hustle and pitch to brands. I can barely manage to get photos once a week. If you ever needed any proof of that, this post is it. As I previously mentioned, my husband started a job that means we both leave the house before the sun is up and we both get home after the sun sets. Weekends have been full of exciting things which means no outfit photo shoots then, either.
Which is why today we are resorting to photos I took in the bathroom at work. Yep.
I don’t lead a glamorous blogger lifestyle and, you know, for as much as I envy some of those bloggers who have amazing photos and amazing brand partnerships I know that they worked really hard for those and they treat their blog like a part-time job.
Continuing with my current theme of outfits-I-wore-awhile-back, here’s one from the last time we were in Carmel, Indiana.
Sweater – Forever 21 (similar) | Scarf – J. Crew (similar) | Jeans – American Eagle Outfitters (same) | Boots – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same)
Downtown Carmel, also known as the Arts District, has so many great places to take pictures that we had a difficult time deciding. On the plus side, this means that I can have a mission every time we go to visit. Take pictures in a new place! Although, I think the next time we’ll be there it will be so I can run the Caribbean Christmas Half Marathon.
In the meantime, let’s talk about this outfit. There’s nothing particularly ground-breaking about it. It’s just jeans, a sweater, a scarf and boots. Just hand me a Starbucks cup and I’ll be about as basic as can be, right? But you know, there’s a reason it’s such a great formula that it’s become a stereotype – it works. It works for fall weather. It works for fall events. It just works.
And not every outfit has to be ground-breaking, am I right? Sometimes they just need to be functional but still a little bit cute. I think in this case it’s the scarf that put that finishing touch on an outfit that would otherwise just be blah.
I really like this particular scarf because it has the interest of a blanket scarf
without being totally overwhelming. And sometimes you just don’t want to be overwhelmed by your accessories. You just want to be whelmed.
I actually took these pictures the last time we visited Jason’s parents and grandmother for her 90th birthday! I hope when I turn 90 someone throws me a pizza and cake party, too. Actually, just pizza. In fact, I was thinking of doing a pizza and wine pairing party for my birthday this year but instead we’re going to Lake Geneva so I can attempt to reclaim my rightful title as Sausage Dance Queen.
So, next year it will be pizza and wine. Until then, can we talk about how I’m still in denial that it’s fall? Clearly the trees aren’t in denial, though.

The idea for this outfit came from one that Audrey posted on Putting Me Together. Black, brown and gray with a fun scarf. Simple, but I liked it so much I actually wore it to work on Friday, for the drive to Carmel, and then again on Sunday. I mean, I immediately changed into pajamas when we got to town on Friday night so basically no one at the birthday party saw me in this outfit so it’s totally cool to wear it again. Thus ends my run-on sentence justification.
