Good morning! Welcome to Monday. I know some people have today off for Martin Luther King Jr Day but I do not. It’s just another work day for me. So here’s another work day outfit.

Anyone notice the hidden Chewie in the photo above?
I spent several hours this past weekend working packet pick-up for the F3 Half Marathon that’s coming up this weekend. I’m working for them part time as a contractor doing customer service and, it’s weird to say, but I love it. I also love working packet pick-up for races. It’s hard to break into the racing management industry and it doesn’t always pay very much, but I love doing it.
I’m beginning to think that if I could make my living doing race management support part-time and personal training part-time I’d be a happy camper. And maybe running my own fitness studio (speaking of fitness, did you see my first post in my new Fitness Friday series?). So, I suppose I’d better get on trying to make that happen. Any suggestions on achieving a big hairy dream like that?
I am not a sports fan. I only watch sports on tv when I’m visiting family. And since most of my family ARE huge sports fans, I’m always vaguely aware of what’s going on.
I also live in a city that LOVES sports. I mean, seriously. Chicago has two pro baseball teams, a pro football team, a pro soccer team, pro basketball teams, and, in case you missed it, we have a pro hockey team that just won the national championship aka The Stanley Cup.
The Chicago Blackhawks also won the championship back in 2013 and since at the time I worked right next to where the congratulatory rally was being held, I made sure to wear the team colors to work.
This year I didn’t plan ahead but I inadvertently dressed the part of a sports fan on Monday, the day after the Blackhawks won The Cup. And in case you don’t know what the Stanley Cup looks like, well, it’s a big silver thing. And the Blackhawks wear red jerseys. I suppose my subconscious was channeling those things when I got dressed.

I no longer work right near the parade route or the rally but I have a feeling I’ll be able to see part of the parade from my office’s windows today. Seeing all the red and white is quite a spectacle and now I’m thinking I should be wearing this outfit today instead!
On Saturday I attempted something I’d never done before: swimming in Lake Michigan. I mean, I’ve been in Lake Michigan before but this time I put on a wetsuit and attempted to actually swim. The water was REALLY cold (like, 52 degrees or something ridiculous) so I didn’t stay in very long. But, I have my first triathlon (thankfully in warmer water) on Sunday so I needed to try out my wetsuit.
The rest of my day was spent getting breakfast from one of our favorite food trucks, taking Chewie to the dog park, and attending the inaugural 60607 Fest where we got to try Lou Malnati’s pizza, Palace Grill mac and cheese (with bacon!), samosas from Bombay Wraps, Spiced and Infused popcorn, and drinks from Jak’s Tap and CH Distillery. After feeling like I was going to freeze to death in the lake I wanted to wear something comfy but not look like a slob. Queue the knit blazer.

I already have a red blazer but that one is a teeny bit too big and definitely more formal. This one is more like wearing a sweatshirt. I admit, I’m debating whether or not I want to keep it (it’s only $34 for Le Tote members…and if you want to join Le Tote I have my own code now that gets you 50% off your first month! It’s ERIN25).
On one hand, I don’t need another red blazer. On the other, it was nice to be able to wear this one and not feel like I was going to work instead of hanging out in my ‘hood on a weekend.
So, thoughts? Yay or nay on adding this to my closet?
I tried to be a good little blogger yesterday and take my outfit photo at my new lunch spot. I walked over there, set up the tripod, and realized that while I had my camera case I did not have my camera. Blogger fail.
So, I took a photo when I got home while the chili I put in the crockpot was cooking.
Their event space is AMAZING. Not only do they have a huge room with a giant bar in the middle, a faux fireplace, bookcases, and comfy seating areas, they also have a theater with stadium seating for presentations. So, after enjoying beers at the bar we went into the theater to learn about how to taste beer. I personally learned that I still don’t like IPAs and stouts (although, stout over ice cream is do-able) but that Belgian-style wheat beers and farmhouse ales are where it’s at for me.
So, thanks to Lakeshore Beverage for showing us the ways of beer! And for making me want to throw a party in your event space. Maybe a beer tasting party for my birthday?
