A little gray angel [SIA Post]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall · Style Imitating Art

The last time I went to the Moonfish pop-up I tried on a lot of different things and almost came home with a dark teal cowl necked sweater. And then I saw this beauty and I knew I wanted it instead. Because, as I mentioned, I’m all about the grays and blacks right now. Hence this week’s Style Imitating Art challenge!

Speaking of Moonfish, the next pop-up is in the city at my friend Annabelle’s store front on November 18th and 19th! That’s right! I love Moonfish so much that I basically brought it to me.

IMG_5472

In other news, work is crazy busy right now and we’re moving towards the busier season for the half marathon I also work for. I’m still helping out Annabelle with her LuLaRoe business and we’re thinking about pivoting a little bit to also use her store front for events (stay tuned for that information).

I’m also still volunteering in a leadership position for Toastmasters and that takes up some time, too. I have a few other things on my plate that I think I need to step back from, though. Do you say “yes” to everything? I’m still working on not doing that!

However, I did say “yes” to attending a magic show event this coming Thursday. We’re supposed to wear cocktail attire! I’ll finally get a chance to bust out a dress I haven’t worn in awhile. Now I just have to pick which one.

And don’t forget you can still submit your outfit inspired by this week’s artwork pick. Just snap a photo and email it to me at looplooks@gmail.com by Tuesday evening. You don’t have to use a fancy camera; a camera phone works just fine! Chewie told me he wants you to participate.

Booties and a dress plus a vest is best

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

One of the best parts of having a friend with a shop full of clothing is getting to play dress up when I go over there. A few weeks ago, I was wearing this dress and booties when I showed up at Annabelle’s. I found this awesome duster vest in her racks and immediately put it on.

IMG_5202

I ended up loving this outfit so much that I borrowed the vest and wore it to a Chicagogrammers outing at Joy District. Amusingly, the style name of this vest is “Joy”. So, yes, I wore a Joy to Joy District.

Thanks to Maggie for pointing that out.

IMG_5210

I have not yet added this vest to my closet, but there’s a good chance it will happen. I feel like a vest just adds that little extra something. And when it’s not quite cold enough to break out the puffy vests a lightweight one like this can be that perfect “completer piece”.

IMG_5192

In other news, I’m still on the fence about booties and dresses or skirts. But, the more I see other people wearing them the more comfortable I am, In fact, I got a lovely compliment on my booties from another Chicagogrammer so clearly the combo doesn’t look as weird on me as I thought it might.  So, yay for that!

Your thoughts on booties and dresses? I’d be curious to see if they’ve changed since the last time I posted about it.

Until then, let’s take a look at how I used this photo to inspire an outfit.

IMG_5150

I decided to use my deck furniture and my coffee cup to mimic the blue background of the photo. Since the coffee cup is white and the beans are black it looked like it was time to wear my black and white polka dot blouse and black jeans.

And, of course, leopard print flats because why not?

IMG_5171

I typically only drink one cup of coffee a day and I rarely pay for it. Instead, I drink it at home or I drink the coffee in the office at work. So, although I had dreams of taking this week’s photos in one of the coffee shops in my neighborhood I decided that would be disingenuous. The coffee I do buy? It’s from the donut truck at the farmers’ market on Sunday!

My Sunday morning routine is to take the dog for a run and end at the farmers’ market for coffee, produce, and dog treats before we walk home. I savor that Sunday morning coffee (and the occasional doughnut).  I also only take cream in my coffee. I’m sweet enough already.

Remember, submit your photos and you’ll not only be entered to win the painting but you’ll also get to see them as part of Wednesday’s round-up!

California Dreaming

Casual Clothes · Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

It’s been a month since my vacation to Sonoma and Healdsburg but I still have one more outfit that I wanted to share with you! I actually wore this outfit to the GrowARTS art show the day after I got back from California since it’s both classy and comfy (and was at the top of my suitcase).

IMG_8929

In California, though, I wore it to taste wine at Quivira. My parents belong to their wine club which meant we got treated like royalty! Wine being served to us on the patio? A pour of any wine they had? Charcuterie and olives from their very own farm? Yes, please and thank you. Plus, this view:

IMG_8919

We’d packed our own lunch and basically spent the entire day at the same winery. After we drank and ate our fill we wandered around the gardens on site.

IMG_8928

If you’re in wine country, I HIGHLY recommend Quivira. Even if you aren’t a member of the wine club they’ve got wonderful wine and beautiful but unpretentious grounds full of flowers, vegetables and fruit plants.

The Flower Seller Outfit [SIA Post]

Casual Clothes · Casual Friday · Style Imitating Art

Is there a blogger out there whose attention to detail you admire? For me, that’s Jen at Librarian for Life and Style. Not only does she kill it with the accessories and details for the weekly Style Imitating Art challenges, but she also looks for the perfect backdrop. Well, for this week’s challenge I KNEW I had the perfect backdrop. A flower seller right in our neighborhood!

IMG_1496

Actually, I saw an even more perfect stall at our local farmer’s market the weekend before but when I went this week they weren’t there. Sad face! So, I made do with the one I found.

Interestingly, this was my second time going to our local farmer’s market and while many of the vendors were the same, they were in different spots! I suppose that’s a good marketing strategy since you have to wander the whole place to find the one you want. And you never know what else you’ll see along the way.

IMG_1453

Like seeing other dogs. So many other dogs. Chewie really wanted to sniff all of them.

Also, I know I just wore this top on the blog but, let’s be honest, I wear it like twice a week now. It’s just so comfy! And the colors of the top and jeans, along with my silver sandals, just matched so perfectly with the art for this week.

Oh, these are my newest Principle Denim jeans and I love them just as much as my other pair. I cannot wait for the next Moonfish pop-up!! I’m not kidding when I say that my entire outfit (minus the shoes) is from Moonfish. Top, jeans, bralette and necklace. I’m definitely a convert.

Don’t forget that you still have time to send in your own outfit inspired by this week’s art choice!  See the full post here with all the details.

What to wear to host brunch at your house

Casual Friday · Shopping

Well, okay, I not only wore this outfit to host brunch, but I also wore it wine tasting in Healdsburg, CA. And that’s where we took these pictures. But, I did wear it this past Saturday, too! Awesome outfits totally deserve to be worn more than once.

IMG_8889

On Saturday I made brunch for several of my friends and had Julie, a Stella & Dot stylist over to show off her wares. When I packed for California I only took two necklaces and two pairs of earrings. One of the necklaces (the one pictured in these photos) and one of the pairs of earrings were from Stella & Dot. Specifically, the Rebel pendant and the Pave Triangle Ear Jacket. I wore both multiple times and, since the earrings are actually several pairs in one, I was able to mix and match them depending on how fancy I wanted to be.

IMG_8892

I love supporting women who have their own hustle (and getting hostess perks aren’t bad either!). Actually, if you’re looking for some super versatile jewelry, I’d love it you used my link! You can also get my amazing leopard print watch, which I also wore a ton in California.

Speaking of women who have their own hustle, both my top and my bralette are from Moonfish, another women-owned business. I think I’ve mentioned before that Sarah at Moonfish is amazing at picking out items for me to try on that I would never think to try myself. Case in point, both the top and the bralette are items I would have not picked out to try on.

IMG_8893

I now want to wear this outfit every day! I even wore the top and bralette with my black Principle Denim jeans (also from Moonfish) to dinner on Sunday and again to work on Monday. I might have a problem.

What I wore to party in the clouds [Giveaway]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring

On the last Thursday in March, I was invited to attend the launch of the newest event series at 360 Chicago, also know as the observation deck at the top of the John Hancock building.

IMG_8250

Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side unless you’ve ever wondered what it looks like from inside a cloud.

IMG_5845

However, that just meant that my outfit was all the more stunning since it didn’t have to compete with views of Lake Michigan or the Chicago skyline.

The lack of a view was sad, but there were snacks and wine, as well as beer samples for the latest Revolution Brewing beer. In fact, Revolution, a local Chicago brewer, is hosting Thursday Hoppy Hours at 360 Chicago from 5:30-8:30 PM starting now through the fall!
