There are a few things in my life that I regret not doing. One is buying an amazing blue and black pony print cowboy hat. Another is not taking a job in an archive in southern Illinois. And one is not keeping this kimono from Le Tote.
I mean, I COULD have them re-send this to me in my next Tote, but I put Le Tote on hold every few months to try and save some money. Right now I’m “on hold” and it seems silly to pay the $49 to have them send me a tote just to pay more money to buy this. Right?
A few weeks ago I restarted my Le Tote account that I’d put on hold. I was hoping to get some dresses I could wear in Sonoma. It turned out that I didn’t end up taking any of them to Sonoma with me, but I did wear the one I got several times beforehand. We’ve had a few really hot days in Chicago and this dress was perfect for those.
I had to run a bunch of errands before going on vacation so this outfit got worn to Ulta, Target, and the grocery store.
I’m not a huge fan of the lace-up trend that’s going on, but since this one doesn’t actually lace I rather enjoyed the fun accent that looks like it laces but it doesn’t actually tie or anything.
The shoes are a recent order from Shopbop. I have them in brown and I love them so much I decided to get them in silver, too. Especially since the straps on my silver gladiator sandals need to be re-glued.
This outfit would be perfect to wear to outdoor festivals or, if you’re like me, just around town while you do that thing called adulting.
When we moved from an 8th floor apartment in the hottest neighborhood in the city to a two floor apartment in a house in a neighborhood no one has heard of, I admit I was a little heartbroken.
But, of course, we moved in January and nothing is fun in the winter in Chicago. However, as spring and summer approach, I’ve been enjoying our back deck and making plans for making our yard and outdoor spaces into a true extension of the house.
I ordered two of these chairs from Target (in teal, not white, though) and plan to get a rug, some ottomans, and some cafe lights for our back deck. Combine that with the two tables we already have that I’m planning to spray paint and we’re going to have an awesome little outdoor room!
I’ve also got plans to plant some more flowers in the flower beds and in the pots I brought over from our previous apartment balcony.
And if you want to enjoy my outdoor space with me, I’m having a get together on Saturday, June 24th!
Yes, I will have a Stella & Dot stylist there, but it’s really just an excuse to finally have people over to our house! Consider it a girls-only housewarming party with no pressure to shop. If you want to come, let me know and I send you the info via email!
I don’t usually have parties because I feel like a loser when no one comes. So, uh, help me feel like less of a loser? I promise to be a good hostess AND you’ll get to sit in my awesome new chairs.
Sometimes photo shoots come together with little effort. Sometimes we find awesome backgrounds and great lighting and the smiles are genuine and the dog behaves and I love my outfit and what I pick matches my own Style Imitating Art choice perfectly.
Then there are days like yesterday. In the interest of keeping it real, I will tell you that I haven’t actually worn this outfit yet other than for these photos. I tried on a bunch of different things but didn’t like I how I felt in any of them. That while purple is one of my favorite colors, I actually own very few purple items.
Sunday was a struggle for me. I had almost zero motivation to do anything. Everything was making me grumpy. I woke up dehydrated even after drinking a ton of water on Saturday. I did;t feel comfortable in any of my clothes. I’d ripped a hole in the crotch of my favorite go-to jeans the day before. I told Jason that the photos didn’t matter because “no one reads my blog.”
Yeah, I’m just a ray of sunshine, aren’t I?
I know it will get better. I know I can turn my own attitude around. Perhaps I need to try that routine of writing down three things for which I’m grateful or that make me happy each day. Have you ever tried that? Does it work?
Or maybe I just need to drink more water and wear more purple. Or remind myself that people do indeed read my blog as evidenced by the SIA submissions I’m getting already! Don’t forget that if you want to participate just snap a photo of an outfit you put together as inspired by this week’s painting and send it to me before Wednesday, May 10th so I can include it in the round-up.
I have this habit of wearing something 100 times right after I buy it because it’s foremost on my mind. Currently it’s either these flats or, since it’s gotten colder, these boots.
Cardigan – Le Tote (same) | Necklace – Le Tote (same) | Jeans – Paige c/o Shopbop (same) | Booties – Steven c/o Shopbop (same)
I enjoy buying shoes from Shopbop because they carry my two favorite brands: Sam Edelman and STEVEN. They even restocked my favorite Sam Edelman riding boots.
These jeans are also my favorite black jeans I’ve ever bought. Highly, highly recommended.
And, guess what? It’s all on sale, just in time for holiday shopping for yourself or someone else.
Sale ends 11:59 PM Pacific on Monday, 11/28
Last year during this sale I bought my leather cross-body tote bag. This year? I haven’t decided yet. I’m debating either another pair of the Sam Edelman flats because they are SUPER comfortable. Or maybe a pair of Sperry duck boots. Or maybe I’ll be generous and buy some Christmas gifts. Anything you want me to pick up for you?
In a fit of absolute lack of imagination and total basic-ness, I wore a very simple outfit to work on Monday. And then I photographed it. Because, I guess, that’s the whole point of this blog, right? I’m not aspirational. I’m…realistic? Anyway, here’s what I wore:
Cardigan – The Limited (similar) | Jeans – Old Navy (similar) | Shirt – Le Tote (same) | Boots – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same) | Scarf – c/o Moonfish
This scarf is one of the ones Sarah from Moonfish gave me. It’s so soft and the colors are so rich. I’m actually glad it’s scarf weather again so I can wear it.
Speaking of Moonfish, their next pop-up shop is November 10th-13th at Beermiscuous. Shopping and beer? Yes, please. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make their last pop-up but I’m really hoping to make this one. Why? Because the scarves Sarah gave me when we met hang on the back of my kitchen chairs so I can throw them on on the way out of the door. And the leggings are getting worn way more than I thought. So clearly Sarah knows how to pick good stuff!
So, if you’re in Chicago and want to join me for some beer and some shopping, let me know! Or, if you’re free this evening, the 26th, I’m hosting an event at the main Shoe Drop retail location and 353 N Clark Street from 6-8PM. Free drinks, apps and shoe shines! These riding boots are going to get some love, let me tell you. Yes, women need to get our shoes shined, too. And I’m totally going to take advantage.
I received this dress in my latest Le Tote and I LOVED it. Super comfy, interesting pattern, and I figured it would work well for late summer and early fall.
The only downside? I didn’t have the perfect shoes to wear with it for fall. I tried these gray booties but I wasn’t so sure about the outcome.
Dress – Le Tote (same) | Necklace – Le Tote (same) | Shoes – H by Hudson c/o Shopbop (similar) | Jacket – Velvet c/o Shopbop (same and on sale!)
Even though the dress has gray in it, I wanted to wear it with brown/tan booties. However, I don’t have any! I have my cheetah wedges but I wasn’t feeling the pattern mixing.
Thankfully, though, Shopbop is having a sale and I’ve got my eye on a few pairs!
The sale ends at midnight Pacific Time on Wednesday, October 14th. So, you can bet I’ll be walking on over to my computer ASAP today to order a pair (or two!) of booties. I’ve linked to my favorites at the bottom of this post.
Crazy how just one thing, a necklace, can take a simple outfit up a notch, right?
For fall, though, I’d probably just add a cardigan (maybe in cobalt blue?) or wear a black sweater and black ballet flats. Too bad I already sent this necklace back to Le Tote!
I’m waiting just a bit longer to bust out my riding boots, though. I have this weird self-imposed limit where I won’t wear them until the high for the day is under 60 degrees. For now I’m wearing flats, occasionally booties, and sneakers. I have a feeling the boots will be coming out soon, however.
When it’s my turn to pick a piece for the Style Imitating Art challenge I swear I don’t pick pieces that work with photos I’ve taken and haven’t posted. It just seems to work out that way sometimes!
For example, take this week’s challenge. I picked a Detroit street art piece that has a ton of color and pattern to it. And guess what? I have an outfit photo saved that includes a top full of color and pattern!
Top – Le Tote (same) | Jeans – 3×1 c/o Shopbop (similar) | Shoes – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same)
I kept this top from one of my recent Le Tote orders because I loved the versatility of the colors and I actually have very little in the way of patterns in my closet. It’s perfect for warm weather and can easily be worn under a cardigan this fall.
Or, you know, when acting silly on the golf course behind your parents’ house. Harassing birds. As you do.
This outfit might not have any street art in it, but I think it still embodies the playfulness of the piece I picked for this week.
If this week’s art inspired you to come up with a fun outfit don’t forget to email me a picture to email@example.com before 8PM central time tonight! Then come back for the round-up tomorrow. I’m excited to share all of the outfits.
When I first put this top on when it came from Le Tote I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. I originally had it on with my gray jeans but it was just “eh”.
Now, though, I think it might be my gray jeans that are “eh” because once I put the top on with dark denim I liked it much better!
Top – Le Tote (same) | Jeans – American Eagle Outfitters (same) | Shoes – J. Crew Factory (similar)
It’s cut kind of like a sweatshirt so it’s a tad bit boxy. Maybe not the most figure flattering, but, again, that’s why I like Le Tote. I can try stuff and send it back. I did indeed wear this outfit to work. And when I did I also discovered that these shoes are cracking at the edges. Actually, several pairs of my shoes are doing that. Ugh! Time to Shoe Drop, I guess!
When taking these pictures I was on the hunt for somewhere NOT windy. Thankfully we found this little hidden area on the campus across the street from our apartment building. It also allowed me to act goofy.
Sometimes my favorite photos are when I’m doing something silly.
