Would you believe I haven’t worked a Friday in two weeks? No wonder I was struggling with someone to wear when I was picking out my outfit for this week’s Casual Friday. Take two Fridays off and you can’t remember how to dress yourself. Thank goodness I could resort to my Friday uniform of a striped shirt, jeans, and a jacket. Keeping everything in a neutral color pattern sure helps as well.
I also apparently forget to check the weather. When I put this outfit together and took pictures my brain was still stuck on the nice warm weather Chicago had this weekend and earlier this week. Hence the sandals and the photo sans jacket.
Hahaha, that’s funny. Today I will not be removing my jacket and I’ll be swapping out my sandals for my nude heels. Even though this outfit is inspired by Stripes and Sequins she is apparently more hardcore than me to be wearing sandals when it’s still a tad bit chilly. Also, I totally could have swapped my current purse for my previous red one and included that bit of color. But I’m lazy and hate swapping purses. Just when I remember where I put everything in my current purse, why would I switch to another one and have to relearn where things are??
Am I the only one who prefers to wear closed toe shoes until it gets warmer? Do you have more than one purse?
Time to be honest. I am not loving this outfit. There’s nothing wrong with it. And black and white is totally on-trend for the fashion world right now. But for some reason I just don’t feel like me today.
Maybe it’s the white t-shirt. I so rarely wear t-shirts that it feels out of sorts. Actually, I think that’s really what’s doing it. The white t-shirt is just too unstructured for me. Fascinating.
See, playing around in your closet can help you figure out what you do and don’t like about your wardrobe. Not to self: white t-shirts are only to be worn as layering items under sweaters.
Would you wear this outfit? Would you change anything about it?
P.S. I have a fun post coming up next week that requires reader participation! Look for it on Tuesday.
Last night I attended the House of Gemmes Holiday Soiree. Appetizers, drinks and shopping for jewelry? Yeah, that sounds right up my alley. My original goal was just to purchase gifts for people but I fell in love with a few things for myself. Yes, even though I’m on a shopping ban for myself I knew that these items wouldn’t have been on my wish list that I gave to other people and I should just get them for myself.
I mean, listen: I have little tiny wrists. Bracelets do not usually fit me. But I tried on two stretchy bracelets that fit my wrists PERFECTLY! Seriously. I couldn’t go home without them. Especially since I didn’t have anything black and gold to match my black and gold mini bubble necklace and this one fit the bill.
After my purchase I didn’t want to play the waiting game. I wanted to wear at least one of my new bracelets ASAP. So, yes, I planned this outfit around a bracelet. It happens. Now, if only I had a fun gold watch….
P.S. It’s not actually cold enough to be bundled up like this, but my brain is in “winter mode” and can’t quite fathom leaving the house in mid-December with my lighter trench coat on.
Just to show you that I actually wear the outfits I put together in my collage posts, here’s me actually wearing my Work Luncheon outfit from last Wednesday. I really love all the different textures in this outfit and I think it’s a great way to showcase a monochromatic look. It’s all the same basic winter white color but the gold in the blouse and the sparkle and texture of the jacket keep it from looking too bland or too much like a uniform.
Speaking of this jacket, if you have a spare $29.80 I would order it STAT from Forever 21 (free shipping today!) It’s really good quality, fits nicely, and will class up just about any outfit. It’s a Chanel look for a non-Chanel price. Seriously, can you just picture it with jeans and just about any color shirt underneath? Or over a black dress? Or, you know, kick out the additional $19.80 for the shirt I’m wearing and you can pair them together with just about anything and look fabulous.
And just so you don’t think this is all I wore on my commute:
The gray wool coat makes an appearance! Not pictured (yet): my hat and my gloves.
Welcome back to the real world! Or, at least, back to work for those of us who have been off for the Thanksgiving holiday. Going back to work is always such a rude awakening after several days off which is why I’m thrilled that Mondays mean Inspiration Monday from Two Birds! Usually this makes it easy to figure out what to wear. Although, I admit, I struggled a bit with this week’s ultra casual choice of plaid and denim.
Which means you’re probably looking at my black and white outfit and wondering how in the world the two are related. Well, here’s how: oversized shirt over tight pants? Yep. Booties? Yep. A black accessory (mine’s in the form of a jacket)? Yep. Sunglasses? Got ‘em.
There you go. One inspired outfit that looks nothing like the original.
Thanks to all of you, Loop Looks got over 200 page views for 5 days out of the past two weeks. Which means that anyone who left at least two comments over the past two weeks gets one entry per comment into the drawing. And everyone who likes Loop Looks on Facebook gets an additional entry. So….drumroll please….
When I looked at the Inspiration Monday photo for this week I admit I was a little stumped. It occurred to me I don’t own very many patterned toppers. I own patterned tops, but not much in the way of blazers, jackets or cardigans.
I played around with a red blouse and my black pants. I toyed with the idea of wearing a red cardigan. But in the end I pulled this jacket on and even though it’s a little bit warm for it today I think it works.
I purchased this jacket via Poshmark. If you have an iPhone and want to thrift shop or sell your own items from the comfort of your couch then you can sign up using code HBAMM and get a $5 credit!
Also, I just realized that I look like I could use another 24 hours of sleep. I had a crazy fun weekend complete with running a half marathon so I’m a little worse for wear today. But that’s no reason to look like a schlub otherwise!
