Let me tell you a little story about these pants. I’m pretty sure you’ve never seen them on the blog before. The matching suit jacket? Yes. The pants? No. Why not?

Well, this is one of the suits I bought almost six years ago before I started my current job. And six years ago flared leg pants were still in style. I’m not talking bootcut, I’m talking FLARED. So, these were flared. And then they hung in my closet for the past few years with me debating whether or not to get rid of them.

But I HATE shopping for pants. Hate it. So I decided I’d try these on one last time before deciding if they were going in the donation pile. And they still fit. Which is when I decided I’d ask the tailoring lady at my dry cleaner if she could make them into straight legged pants. Which she said she could for the price of $26.

Now they’re a tad too long but that’s an easy fix. Well, I mean, I’ll still be paying someone to do it since I can’t sew, but at least I don’t have to go pants shopping!

Not Easy Being Green

So, in addition to still doing the Pinned It and Did It Challenge, there’s also a theme going on this week. Can you guess what it is? No?

Okay, I’ll tell you.

The theme is GREEN! Yep. Green. All of the Pinned It and Did It inspiration outfits this week have some green in them.

For today’s outfit I went pretty literal. Black pants, green blouse, and a tan cardigan. Simple enough, right? Also, standing in front of this giant pile of ugly leftover snow just makes me even happier that on Friday I leave for Puerto Rico! Yes, that’s right. I’m going on vacation!!

Which means that you should enjoy this last week of Pinned It and Did It outfits. Next week I have some other fun stuff lined up for you, including a fun collaboration I did with a local boutique.

Obviously I’m getting excited for my trip if I’m already talking about next week and it’s only Tuesday. I mean, really? Who am I kidding.

Whatever. I’m excited.

Making It Up As I Go Along

Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter

Blazer – Forever 21 (similar) | Pants – LOFT (similar) | Shirt – The Limited (same) | Vest – Comfort Me Boutique (similar) | Necklace – NYC jewelry store (similar) | Shoes – Bandolino (same)

First, in case you missed it, please take the Loop Looks Two Year Anniversary Reader Survey! I want to share the results with you next week so if you could fill it out before then I would really appreciate it.

Second, this cobalt and black faux fur outfit is almost an exact duplicate of an outfit I saw on Penny Pincher Fashion over a year ago. I already had the blazer and the pants, the top I added to my closet last month, and the faux fur vest jumped out at me when I was Comfort Me boutique last week for an event. In fact, that store is so adorable that I’m planning a fun collaboration with them next month!

I’ll be honest, though, I loved the way this looked on PPF but on me I felt it made me top heavy. I think my vest is a tad bit more robust than hers. I rather wished I’d had a cobalt cardigan instead of a blazer to cut down on some of the bulk.  However, I still like the idea of wearing a vest over a blazer so I think I’ll play around with it. Never fear, though, I have other ideas on how to style this vest since it appears winter will be back in full force next week.

You know what I don’t have any ideas on, though? Make up. When Bri from Work Clothes, I Suppose announced this months’ Third Thursday Threads Theme as “beauty” I knew I was in trouble.

See, here’s my current make up routine.

And you want to know something interesting? I don’t think I’ve EVER bought lipstick! Nope. I just keep getting it for free.

I hardly ever remember to wear it, though, so I suppose it’s a good thing I don’t spend money on it!

Do you have a make up routine? Sometimes I feel like I failed “girl” because I can barely do my own hair and eyeliner scares me.

Navy and Black is Back

First, before I get to the outfit, I want to ask you to take the Two Year Anniversary Reader Survey if you haven’t already. It would mean a lot to me! I have 25 responses so far and would love to hear more feedback.

Now, on to the outfit. I know I’ve discussed wearing navy and black together in the past. And even if you’re still not sure about it, I have to say this jacket would make you change your mind. Why? Not only did I get two compliments on it in less than 4 hours but it also has both black AND navy already in the fabric.

If that doesn’t tell you that navy and black are okay together than I don’t know what will. And if you want your own navy and blue jacket, you can still find this one on eBay.

Anyway, I tend to pair this jacket with navy or black when I wear it. I’m thinking I need to branch out soon!

Valentine’s Day Outfit From Day to Night

Gotta love the PPE accessory. That’s “personal protective equipment” for all of you who don’t have a chemist in your life.

I suppose you’re all aware that Valentine’s Day is coming up. And while my husband and I don’t plan to do anything special other than order Thai food and sit on our couch I thought it might be fun to show you how I would transform this outfit from a day in the office (or, in this case, my husband’s chemistry lab) to a night on the town!

Valentine's Day Date Outfit

Just swap out the black dress pants for a fun mini skirt (sequins optional but I always go for sparkly) and you have a fun date night look! It’s just that easy. In fact, it’s so easy that the rest of this week I’ll be showing you fun and quick ways to transform a work look to a date look. Just let me get out the lab…

Stripes and Florals

So many things to mention today! But first, let’s talk about why I’m wearing stripes and florals. As my husband said when I got dressed this morning, “Aren’t stripes and florals together a no-no?” Well, maybe they were once but not so much any more! Although, the reason I decided to recreate this pin was because I got some extra inspiration. From a painting. From 1914.

After the Meeting” – chosen by Salazar for this week’s Style Imitating Art challenge

Yellow is probably one of my least favorite colors so instead of trying to match the colors I decided to match the patterns. Hence the stripes and florals. And then, of course, I had to add my new necklace! Those of you on Instagram and Facebook saw it last week but I wanted to share it with the rest of you. The necklace was gifted to me by ONecklace although I got to choose any style I wanted. I love that they have more “modern” looking versions of the monogram necklaces that were really popular last year. Of course, they have the traditional ones, too, but they so many more additional options. And the many of the silver ones (including mine)  are under $30 with free shipping! Of course, they also have gold. Great for yourself or as a gift, right?

Finally, this week is the Third Thursday Threads Link-Up at Work Clothes, I Suppose and the theme menswear-inspired outfits. But since I don’t own oxfords and I wore my most menswear-esque piece last week (my sleeveless blazer vest) I’m just going to go with the fact that I’m wearing a button-up shirt. Yeah.  I mean, we probably stole that from men, right?

P.S. I HATE that I had to wear hose/tights because it finally got chilly outside. Looking at this outfit I think the black hosiery is too heavy for the outfit. Probably should have gone with nude. Also, I think I’m going to get this top tailored so that it’s not so boxy. I love the stripes, just don’t love the fit as much as I could.

Emerald Office

I’m back! Did you miss my smiling face? What about if I bribe you with an awesome giveaway? Yes, I’m giving away a beautiful Gorjana bracelet over at Coming Unstitched. And, hey, you can earn entries for doing what you already do. You know, reading this here blog. Easy, right?

You know what’s not easy? Getting dressed in “real” clothes after spending a week in my swimsuit and not showering until 5 PM every day. Thankfully a gal I saw in Target along with a Pinterest find gave me the idea to pair my emerald green tank with my black and white skirt. Also not easy is getting a good photo when it’s raining outside. Hope you enjoy this slice of my day job office.

I feel like this outfit is a little bit “traditional” but, you know, there’s nothing wrong with that. Adding a colored top to a black and white skirt is sometimes a style revelation for people so even though it may seem simple it’s not always for everyone. And since my goal at Loop Looks is to help people think outside their uniform rut, maybe someone seeing this will have a light bulb moment and copy this look. And that’s perfectly fine by me.

The Hilarity of the Half Acre Brewery Tour (Guide)

Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring

Taking a quick break from this week’s 5 Days, 5 Ways challenge to share this story with you.

Last month a bunch of my Chicago Running Blogger friends and I  met up for a quick run before drinking ourselves silly at the Half Acre Brewery tour. I didn’t do a write-up on my running blog but if you’re curious, there are quite a few write-ups from my friends who didn’t fall asleep on the couch when they got home after all that beer.

The highlight (and the reason I’m writing this post) of the tour was drinking three pints of beer in about an hour after very little food.  We got a little giddy and the group decided that we loved our tour guide’s hipster outfit pictured above and wanted to recreate it.  “Host a link-up, Erin!” They said.  So here we are.

Ever notice how guys have it so easy on casual Friday at the office?  Jeans and a nice button up shirt and they’re good to go!  I decided to borrow from the boys and do the same.  Jeans and a button up shirt.  Add some fun accessories to glam it up a bit and I’m ready to take on my casual Friday nemesis in style.

This top has been in my closet for years and years.  Every now and then I think about getting rid of it but then I decide not to.  Wearing it tucked into jeans is new for me but I think I like it!

Thanks again to Molly for playing photographer for me this week!  Not only did I get to hang out with her but she also showed me a new part of Chicago that I’d never been to.  If you live in Chicago and haven’t wandered down Prairie Avenue or visited the oldest house in Chicago I suggest you do.
