When I was chatting with Katie from Personally Paleo on Saturday she was asking me about whether or not I had any series on my blog. Well, of course I do! Style Imitating Art, to mention just one. But it reminded me that I hadn’t done a Pinterest Parallel in awhile. So here’s one for you.

I based it on this outfit that I saved on Pinterest. I mean, it’s pretty simple. A black dress with brown riding boots, a tan cardigan, and a leopard print scarf. I’ve had items like this in my closet for years. I even have two “little black dresses” that would have worked for this outfit.

Jason and I took these photos outside my parents’ house. They live on a golf course and this tunnel goes underneath the road. I was hoping that it would be less windy down there but, alas, not so much. Also, we forgot our camera so we borrowed one from my parents. Resourceful, that’s us.

looplooks.net occasionally receives vendor/ brand sponsorships for mentioning their products and services…..like these boots.

When I got my new camel blazer for Christmas I knew the exact outfit I wanted to recreate using it. It was this one from Damsel in Dior. Turns out this outfit also kind of works for this week’s Style Imitating Art challenge from Animated Cardigan.

I know the original SIA photograph that Jess chose is all black and white, but I think the stripes on my shirt echo the trees and the tan jacket just alludes to nature.

In other news, I spent all of Friday and Saturday working at for a local half marathon and a good chunk of Sunday answering post-race emails. Our race shirt manufacturer missed our deadline and, as such, some of our shirts were stuck in transit and didn’t arrive in time for the race. Most people were understanding but there are always those who have to be rude or difficult about things, right?

Anyway, it just reinforces the life lesson that you should try your hardest to be nice to people. Why default to rude when it’s just as easy to be nice, you know?

I fully admit that I am not always the nicest person. Sometimes Jason has to say “Be nice” when I’m getting testy. So even I can stand a reminder now and then. No one is perfect.

Admittedly, even this outfit isn’t perfect. In the interest of full disclosure, I barely wore the blazer all day. After months of being cold our office is finally warm! So, I suppose, that my outfit ended up being a great interpretation of this week’s SIA choice after all.

I pinned this outfit a year ago and had all the pieces to recreate it….except for the shoes. It occurred to me when I finally wore it that I could have worn my leopard flats but, look, I finally have brown flats so I was going to wear them!

Also, I know everyone was gushing about the weather in Chicago being abnormally warm for the first part of November but, I have to say, I was enjoying it, too. I mean, I wore this outfit with just my trench coat and was perfectly fine! Even with flats and exposed feet. Crazy, right? This time last year it was boots all the time.

IMG_2656

Also, funny story about this plaid shirt. See, originally I got it in a size 2 as a gift. That size always felt a little bit tight across the shoulders and in the armpits, though, so after a few months I sold it on eBay and bought it in a size 4.

Then I was wearing it at work about a month ago. I went to the gym on my lunch break and when I put the shirt back on afterward I realized I had hulked-out of it and there was literally a shredded hole under one arm! Not on seam, either. A legit shredded hole just in the fabric.

I guess there is a downside to weight lifting.

Anyway, I loved that shirt so much (clearly since I’d already bought it myself once) that I immediately took to eBay again. However, this time I couldn’t find it in a 4….so I bought a 6. And it still fits! I probably paid too much for a used shirt, but, hey, when you like something you like something.

First, thanks for the kind comments on my last post. Jason got some interesting news about his job location after I posted that, but it just means a slightly closer suburb. Maybe. Anyway, let’s talk about something that doesn’t involve moving and commutes.

Are you in need of a Casual Friday outfit that will also transition to after dinner fun? Then I’ve got the outfit for you! Well, technically, Pinterest has the outfit for you.

I still don’t know what it is about heels, jeans and a blazer that I love so much, but it always makes me feel good. If I need a “pick me up” outfit this is what I turn to. I try not to wear it every day but, really, I probably should. Almost all of my “casual Friday” outfits I have saved on Pinterest are some variation of this. Partially because at my previous job this helped me still feel dressed up enough on Fridays. And now because I just love it.

IMG_9942

Do you have an outfit combination that always makes you feel good?

P.S. If you’re still in need of Halloween plans, I’ll be serving up Michelada Love and Tecate at Boo Ha Ha in Bucktown on Saturday from 2-7 pm. Just look for Wonder Woman and Bat Girl.

I think I’ve finally figure out when to wear skirts and sweaters. I think it’s this time of year called “fall.”

Don’t mind me, just a little slow on the uptake.

I’d pinned three outfits that paired camel colored leather skirts with black sweaters (this one, this one and this one) and decided to merge all of them together into this outfit that I wore on a day that started out cool and got a bit warmer in the afternoon.

Still not sure how I feel about ankle boots with skirts. Especially black ankle boots. Every time I wear them I feel self conscious all day. However, I think if I’d gone with flats this outfit would have been way too “school girl.” My husband even mentioned it looked like of a like a school uniform.

But, really, do school girls wear faux leather skirts?

I’ve been feeling really uninspired with outfit creation lately. Even though I feel like everyone is all atwitter about fall and fall outfits, changing seasons always throws me for a loop when it comes to getting dressed.  Cool in the morning but warmer in the afternoon is not something I’ve ever been good at. What do you do with all those extra layers you take off later in the day?

Anyway, when I feel uninspired I turn to Pinterest. Today’s Pinterest parallel outfit comes direct from Aubrey at Putting Me Together. I saved this photo almost a year ago with the idea of wearing it with my cobalt blazer. Instead, I ended up wearing my cobalt cardigan.

I suppose, though, it’s almost time to bust out my scarves and my vests. And maybe finally figure out how this layering thing works.

When I attended the Bucketfeet event on Tuesday night I had such a good time that when I left to meet my husband for dinner (at Piece Pizza & Brewery!) that I totally forgot my gym bag at the Bucketfeet studio! I wasn’t able to get it back until Thursday but by going to retrieve it I found out that Bucketfeet HQ is super close to my apartment AND they have an office dog. Seriously, I could not love this company more.

Anyway, all of that drama meant that on Wednesday I was NOT feeling inspired to put together a decent outfit considering I had left my “good” makeup in my errant gym bag and I had to throw together some backup items so I could go to the gym. Let’s just say that Wednesday’s outfit shall forever be lost to annals of time. Instead, let’s focus on Thursday’s outfit.

I still wasn’t feeling THAT inspired so I turned to my trusty friend: Pinterest. And decided to go for something colorful with this blue and green outfit.

These are currently the only pair of dress pants that fit me. And that’s because I almost replaced them with some a size or two larger. But, hey, all this working out I’ve been doing is working so here they are fitting me again!

However, for some reason I felt like I belonged on the set of the Golden Girls in this outfit. I’m honestly not sure why. I welcome your thoughts!

At the end of the work day on Thursday one of our marketing directors came up to me and said,  “I have something kind of weird to ask you.” Uh…okay.

Turns out the company had an extra ticket to an event last night and the marketing director thought I would be a good person to go because A. I fit in with the group that was going because I know how to look and act professional and B. I know how to comport myself at events with open bars. Sadly, I was unable to attend and I’m a little bummed about it. Not because it was an open bar (although, let’s be honest, that’s quite nice) but because it would have been a good opportunity to do some networking. Ah, well. It’s nice to know that in the slightly-less-than-a-year I’ve been at the company I’ve made a good impression on people! Even if I do sometimes feel like a Golden Girl.

In an effort to not default to my white jeans or white blazer EVERY day of the Top 10 Remix challenge, I decided to give my leopard print shirt another try. In fact, I decided to wear it in a way inspired by the creator of the Top 10 Remix Challenge itself: Sarah.

leopard-print-shirt-navy-cardigan-2Shirt – J. Crew via eBay (similar) | Cardigan – The Limited (similar) | Jeans – American Eagle Outfitters (same) | Shoes – Mia via Macy’s (similar)

This is originally my third attempt at an outfit. As I laid in bed on Monday night I thought “what am I going to wear tomorrow that ISN’T my white jeans or white blazer?” (Because I’m pretty sure I’m wearing my white blazer tomorrow…)

Le Tote had recently sent me a pair of ponte ankle zipper legging pants with the instructions to throw out the rule that leggings are not pants. Well, I thought, even though I don’t agree why not give it a try? So I tried them on with this shirt and crewneck sweater and heels. Which I wore around the house as I made breakfast and packed my lunch.

And realized that even ponte ankle zipper leggings are NOT PANTS and that I felt really, really uncomfortable. So I swapped the crewneck sweater for this cardigan but the cardigan wasn’t long enough to fully cover my butt. I thought about my long black cardigan but the navy and black wasn’t working for me this morning and it didn’t occur to me to try my long tan cardigan.  At this point I was running late so I decided just to use Sarah as my inspiration and throw on  jeans and my red flats.

This shirt still feels too voluminous but at least I didn’t spend the entire day tugging my shirt down over my butt. Win some, lose some, you know?

Oof, you guys. I apologize in advance for this photo and, really, this outfit. I wanted to wear my leopard shirt since it’s part of my Top 10 Remix and I wanted to wear it with my green jeans in order to try and emulate this pin.

Yes, I swear my  jeans are a dark green color. Not that you can tell because I asked my husband to snap a photo using my iPhone after a long day of work, riding a Divvy bike home, and meeting him at the dog park.

Anyway, I wanted to love this outfit but it just wasn’t working for me. The jeans are too high waisted to tuck the shirt into so I tried leaving it loose (looked too big) and I tried tying it in a knot (felt sloppy).  Kind of a lose-lose situation.

I originally added this shirt to my Top 10 Remix because I lusted after it for almost a year before I broke down and bought it online. Now, though, I hate to say it, but it feels too big! It might become a shirt I only wear under things instead of on its own.

Also, when looking for similar jeans I kind of fell in love with these pants from Old Navy. Their pants don’t normally fit me but it couldn’t hurt to order them, right?  It wouldn’t hurt to have more casual pants, right?

Last week we had a few more days when winter decided it wasn’t done with us yet. I decided that was possibly my last chance to bust out my faux fur vest. I’d been wanting to wear it with my olive green shirt and leopard wedges ever since I pinned a similar look from Christine at The View from 5 ft. 2 (who I have actually met in person when she lived in Chicago).

olive-shirt-fur-vest-3When I walked into my boss’s office wearing this vest he exclaimed, “Nice jacket!” Considering my boss wears dress pants and a polo shirt 4 out of 5 days (and on the fifth he wears jeans and a polo) I wouldn’t say he’s the paragon of fashion. But, ever since I told him I needed to leave early to get my photo taken for Crain’s I think he’s been keeping an eye on my outfits.

But let’s talk about this necklace for a minute. I have a very similar one from The Limited but I’ve had this one from Rocksbox for a week or two and I want to wear it all the time. I don’t even know why! In fact, I might just decided to replace my one from The Limited with it.

olive-shirt-fur-vest-2Interesting side note: I wore this shirt (and that similar necklace!) on my very first day at my current job and featured Chewie in that post, too. Crazy to see how much we’ve both changed in that seemingly short amount of time! I never thought I’d be wearing jeans as much as I do and I never thought Chewie would get as big as he has!
