Favorite Outfit of September

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall · Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Here we are with another month gone! September was a busy month, though, which is probably why it went fast. Did it go fast for you? Anyway, what was I so busy doing?

  • Ate dinner at Three Greens Market with Jason
  • Tried City Mini Golf and explored Maggie Daley park with Jason
  • Got concretes from Shake Shack
  • Had dinner at Umami Burger with friends
  • Ran the Park Ridge 5K
  • Grilled on our rooftop deck
  • Took Chewie to Nellcote
  • Signed up for a marathon (!!)
  • Attended a usability study for the CUTGroup
  • Attended a fundraiser to raise money for science scholarships
  • And, of course, working my day job, my contract job, and blogging

It’s a good thing I had some outfit photos saved up, huh? Speaking of which, one of the photos I took very early in September ended up being my favorite outfit of the month.

I just loved how this outfit felt, looked, and took advantage of an item (the sports bra) I didn’t even buy with the intention of wearing with this dress. Sometimes my sub-conscious must be working overtime.

Anyway, now it’s time for you to vote for your favorite! Just use the poll below the collage to make your choice. Hopefully it will be less contentious than the U.S. election season, am I right?

SIA: The POSE Round-Up

Style Imitating Art

It’s time to post the round-up of outfits submitted for this week’s Style Imitating Art choice! As a reminder, I picked a Detroit street art mural by an artist called POSE.

So, without further ado, here’s how everyone interpreted it!

Mike went out on a limb (for him!) and wore his Mario t-shirt because, as he says, “t’s the only t-shirt that I own that has any kind of graphic (at least in this form) on it. And with the rather “cartoon-like” piece,¬†Brummel, this just seemed to fit the bill so well.”

Considering my husband is a huge video gamer and lover of pop culture t-shirts, I also think this shirt is perfect for this week! Thanks for sharing, Mike!

Next we have co-host Jen in one of my favorite tops of hers. The polka dots and the colors are so great. You have to visit her post to see the back of the top, too. It’s fun!

Salazar, our other co-host, went with a loose interpretation of stripes to echo the strong graphical lines and said she picked the belt since the mural is in an alley called “The Belt”. You can get all the details on her post.

Xat used this week’s art as the impetus to share an¬†interesting hand-made piece. She wasn’t sure what to do with it but I personally like it as a skirt. You can find out more in her blog post.

Kezzie has the perfect skirt for this week! Cartoon-esque clouds? I love it! Plus she tried to pull in some of the other colors in the art. She says she was super busy so she didn’t get a full outfit photo. Hopefully we’ll see her recreate it on her blog soon!

Finally we have my outfit with my colorful, patterned top and silly pose.

Stay tuned for next week’s pick from Salazar! I, for one, am looking forward to it.

SIA: Colors and Patterns

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

When it’s my turn to pick a piece for the Style Imitating Art challenge I swear I don’t pick pieces that work with photos I’ve taken and haven’t posted. It just seems to work out that way sometimes!

For example, take this week’s challenge. I picked a Detroit street art piece that has a ton of color and pattern to it. And guess what? I have an outfit photo saved that includes a top full of color and pattern!

Top – Le Tote (same) | Jeans – 3×1 c/o Shopbop (similar) | Shoes – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same)

I kept this top from one of my recent Le Tote orders because I loved the versatility of the colors and I actually have very little in the way of patterns in my closet. It’s perfect for warm weather and can easily be worn under a cardigan this fall.

Or, you know, when acting silly on the golf course behind your parents’ house. Harassing birds. As you do.

This outfit might not have any street art in it, but I think it still embodies the playfulness of the piece I picked for this week.

If this week’s art inspired you to come up with a fun outfit don’t forget to email me a picture to before 8PM central time tonight! Then come back for the round-up tomorrow. I’m excited to share all of the outfits.
