A Tweedy Decision

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Spring · Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. If you go to the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago do NOT wear a sweater plus a jacket. You will get incredibly warm. Clearly I am not the brightest crayon in the box since it didn’t occur to me that what is essentially a greenhouse would be way warmer than the outside temperature. Especially since they’re keeping tropical plants alive all year round.

Thankfully I was only recreating this outfit and not wearing it the whole time. I did wear it the whole time to work and out to dinner with friends a few days prior, though.

I’ve been trying to come up with more ways to wear this particular jacket. I go back and forth on whether or not it still has a home in my closet. It’s black, navy, white, gold and silver so, really, it should go with just about everything I own! But for some reason I rarely reach for it.

A friend of mine just got a new job and is going from a super-casual workplace to a “smart casual” workplace. Basically, the complete opposite of what I did. I’m giving her a bunch of clothes from my closet to try on since she needs them more than I do. For now, though, I think this jacket is going to stay in my closet. I think I’ll give it at least one more season before I make a final decision on its future.

That’s an easy mistake for anyone to make Erin. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I do that all the time; wearing extra layers when the weather decides that it wants to play the part of “sub tropical” instead of the usual temperate climate that Ohio is known for. Seriously, we get like 4 or 5 different kinds of weather within one week sometimes! Makes it so hard to decide what to wear…
Anyway, the conservatory that you’re in looks gorgeous! It’s a perfect backdrop for your pictures and is a great reminder that spring is soon to come. 🙂

Ha ha….there’s a perfect example of when you don’t want to dress for the weather outside!! I learned this when we went to the indoor part of our botanical gardens….the hard part was then you were also outside—so you needed two outfits!
I love your jacket—I think it’d be great with your red jeans too!! jodie

(This post just showed up in my Bloglovin’ feed…?! I don’t know where it was yesterday.)

Funny that you mention that friend of yours, because the first thing I was going to say when I saw that you blogged about a tweed jacket was that I’m SUPER stoked I got a pair of tweed pants from you on Sunday hahaha. (Though I don’t think I’m quite confident enough to do tweed-on-tweed, so you hang onto that jacket for now 😉 ). They made me feel so professional and grown up! I NEVER wear anything but plain bottoms, and while I guess tweed is still somewhat “plain,” it’s a lot less plain than just black/denim, and I’m really excited to give them a try!
