A sweater and boots

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite outfit of November! As usual, the votes so far are surprising me!

Moving on…..

When I was at my parents’ for Thanksgiving Jason and I took the opportunity to take quite a few outfit photos. My parents live down the street from a great park so we went there to shoot. Good thing I’m not adverse to using port-a-potties thanks to all the races I’ve run! Yes, I changed in the one at the park. It was a really big one, though. Jason said if I changed in the car I might scare people.

Anyway, this is one of the outfits we shot. It’s actually one I created earlier in the spring for a day of getting breakfast from our favorite food truck and going to the Apple store to buy my laptop. In fact, I was wearing this outfit when I became someone who drinks coffee and uses a Mac.

Scarf – DSW (similar) | Sweater – LOFT (similar) | Jeans – Old Navy (same) | Boots – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same)

I’ve since worn this outfit to wander around town with my mom, to work, and a variety of other places. I love it because the sweater allows a t-shirt to peek out from underneath, the boots bring out the cognac in the scarf, and it’s perfect for a slightly chilly day.

The only thing I don’t like is that the sleeves are full length. I’m a weirdo who almost always pushes up my sleeves and I definitely prefer three-quarter length sleeves or bracelet sleeves to full length. Pushing up sleeves on sweaters, though, can sometimes stretch them out. So when I wear this outfit to work you’ll find me wandering around with my sleeves rolled up.

Speaking of rolling up my sleeves, I have to give a speech in Toastmasters on Thursday and I’m still trying to decide on a topic. I asked my friends on Facebook for ideas and several of them wanted me to talk about how I balance blogging, working, and volunteering with making time for Chewie, Jason and my friends. Not sure that’s something my coworkers in Toastmasters want to hear about, though, but it might be something I write about on the blog. The short answer: life isn’t always what it seems on social media. But you all knew that already, right?

I think that’s a great topic for Toastmasters! People are always talking about “work/life balance,” yet it feels like not many people actually achieve that.

I also hate full-length sleeves and am constantly rolling mine up, and then I get annoyed that they’re stretched out.

My work/life balance apparently includes taking jobs where they don’t expect you to work “after hours”, not caring if I take an extra 15-20 minutes at lunch, responding to blog comments at work, and not cleaning my house 🙂

You should give a speech on rock climbing and how it’s the best thing ever 🙂 Or on how to use what you have in your closet to create different outfits that work for a variety of occasions (including work) without having to buy new things! Using the color wheel to find things that go together, the rule of threes (is that what it’s called? The “wear three items to look put together” rule), that sort of stuff. I’d be interested in listening to that kind of speech! Or one on rock climbing 😛

I would love to hear a speech on Chewie! I remember you have some amazing stories to share from when you worked in Champaign-Urbana, too. Would also love to hear more about your running/fitness journey in general.

The combo of jeans, boots, and a scarf is one of my very favorite outfits. It looks so pulled together yet is so simple. I adore the t-shirt you have peeking out from underneath the sweater. I haven’t quite figured out how to layer in that way without it looking like a mistake, but yours looks perfect!

On an unrelated note, I am noticing that your blog posts don’t show up in my Bloglovin feed. I feel like you once mentioned this as being an issue for others, but maybe I am thinking of something else? Please let me know.

Hmm, that’s weird about Bloglovin’. I follow myself and they show up just fine. Maybe try unfollowing me and then re-adding me?

That’s funny you said you wanted to know more about Chewie since today’s post is about him 🙂

I think the secret to wearing a tee peeking out under a sweater it to make sure that the tee isn’t too big. You don’t want it to be too long or too voluminous.
