The Bathroom Selfie OOTD Edition

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

I’ve recently noticed quite a few Chicago bloggers getting awesome partnership deals, finding amazing photographers to take their photos all over the city, even appearing on ads around town.

I am not one of those bloggers. My photographer is my husband. I don’t hustle and pitch to brands. I can barely manage to get photos once a week. If you ever needed any proof of that, this post is it. As I previously mentioned, my husband started a job that means we both leave the house before the sun is up and we both get home after the sun sets. Weekends have been full of exciting things which means no outfit photo shoots then, either.

Which is why today we are resorting to photos I took in the bathroom at work. Yep.

I don’t lead a glamorous blogger lifestyle and, you know, for as much as I envy some of those bloggers who have amazing photos and amazing brand partnerships I know that they worked really hard for those and they treat their blog like a part-time job.

I blog because it’s a fun hobby. Could I turn it into a full-time gig? Maybe. Maybe if I wanted that hustle. But sometimes I like being able to work my day job and leave work at work.

So, I temper my jealousy with knowing that as perfect as it may look there’s always struggle and hard work and late nights and, I’m sure, tears. And the day my blog brings me those is the day I quit.

Although I will pimp for Le Tote and say that this dress and this scarf may be my two most favorite items so far. And you can try them yourself for 50% off the first month if you use code ERIN25!

We have two bathrooms on our floor and this is the newest one. It was recently added so it’s pretty nice and updated. The other one…well….it’s also tan. And kind of yellow. But, yes, I’m lucky they added this one and it’s not ugly 🙂

I think I need a new chambray shirt. I have tried so many different ways to wear mine this year and every single time it looks frumpy and awful. I want to look like your photo wearing chambray!

Anyway. While I respect bloggers who invest so much time and energy into their blogging, I just could not do it. I don’t think I could even bring myself to care about my blog enough to invest any more time and energy into it than I do at the moment. While the potential perks could be cool, I’m so much happier with my blog not being a source of stress in my life, and if ANY of my income depended on my blog, I’m sure it would become a source of stress quite quickly.

RE: chambray shirt – this one is from Loft and it’s their “softened” series. Meaning, it’s not 100% cotton. I find that ones that are 100% cotton tend to not lay as nicely. Also, the one I have from Old Navy is too short and wide on me to really be worn alone without looking strange. I use that one to layer when I need to.

Lady, this post makes me super happy. I’m not alone in this crazy schedule where outfit photos seem completely impossible…and also in not pimping myself out to brand after brand. These are just fine for me, for the record 🙂

I used to take my photos at lunch outside (with a tripod and my point-and-shoot) but now that I workout at lunch that’s not really an option, either. So, yeah, mirror selfies it is!

So true. A part time job, whether blogging or volunteering at a church or Scouts can be totally time consuming and exhausting as you deal with people who do the same thing for a living.

I think you do a pretty good job at this considering you are keeping it “on the side”.

Thanks, Chris! I did choose to drop down to posting every other day instead of every day but I know that plenty of “big” bloggers don’t necessarily post every day, either.

I love the post but I do have a suggestion. I find a tripod works wonders for outfit photos. Using the autotimer feature really helps when you have to be your own photographer.

I have done that in the past, for sure. We even have a remote for one of our cameras! It’s just finding the time during the day to take them that I still struggle with.
