That time I tried leggings

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

Speaking of leggings, did you win the iPhone case from the giveaway in my post about workout leggings?

So, a few years ago, I wanted some faux leather pants but I didn’t necessarily want leggings. But this particular pair has always been a little bit big. So, when I saw that Le Tote had some faux leather leggings available to try, I thought I’d go for it.

I also got this top in the same shipment and had plans to wear them together. But when I put on the leggings, well, I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t wear leggings as pants. So, I put on my slightly-too-large faux leather pants.

Top – Le Tote (same) | Pants – Vince Camuto (similar) | Vest – Target (similar) | Shoes – Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop (same)

I don’t know if it’s because this top wasn’t quite long enough or if because I just felt underdressed for work wearing something as tight as what I wear to the gym or what exactly it was about the leggings, but I just felt uncomfortable. So, yes, I wore them around my apartment  while I finished getting ready for work and then changed at the last minute.

It’s funny; I can wear leggings at the gym or out to eat after a race or at a fitness event but I just can’t do it otherwise. Am I weird?

That’s too funny! You look so great in them! I understand what you mean about being too big (nothing worse than loose leggings!) but they look great especially since they are dressed up a bit more with the faux leather. Does anyone at work wear leggings, or is that too casual?

I’m actually wearing the pants in these photos, not the leggings. I literally couldn’t leave the house in the leggings!

People wear leggings at work ALL THE TIME. But, I just don’t think they’re professional enough even if your butt is covered. Clearly I have a hang up in this department.

No you’re not weird! I always feel super exposed in them unless I’m wearing a shirt/sweater long enough to cover my behind. I recently bought a pair with a zipper on each leg that makes them look like pants, so I feel less like I’m wearing no-pants with those, but still take comfort in an extra long top. So, if you’re weird, then I’m weird!

I rarely rarely wear leggings as pants unless I have a sweater that definitely covers my butt. I agree with you though, I just don’t think they look professional enough. But yep, I’ll wear my workout leggings anywhere if I’ve been working out and not really give it a second thought.

This makes me kind of sad… lol Because you’ve TOTALLY got the figure that I’m thinking would look good in leggings of all kinds.

And you’re tallish, right? So for you, tunics aren’t really long enough to give you the coverage that you want/need with leggings, but you’ve probably got shorter dresses in your closet (or you passed over them at stores) that you don’t wear because they aren’t long enough to wear without wearing tights. So wear them with some cute leggings instead. Maybe a solid color, maybe some fun prints! Then once you get more comfortable wearing them out to dinner or on the weekend you’ll be more comfortable wearing them to work.

      According to the doctor’s office this morning, I’m 5’3″! But, I swear, I’m 5’4″. I am!

So, no, not that tall 🙂 BUT! I am ALL legs. Seriously. My torso is super short. So you’d think that tops would be longer on me but for some reason many of them are not.

I guess my issue is that if I can wear a dress with tights I’ll wear it with tights. Why would I wear it with leggings? I’m so confused about it all!

I think you should give it a try – force a tunic on over them and leave the house before you can change your mind. And if you still hate it, there’s plenty of other pants to wear! I’m really picky about the types of leggings I’ll wear AND what I’ll wear them with, but its worth another try, I think!

I don’t think you’re weird for not wearing leggings to work. And THANK GOODNESS you do not wear regular leggings as pants. It’s an epidemic, I swear. I have slowwwwwwwly embraced sometimes wearing leggings to work, like under dresses or even as substitute for tights under boots. Sometimes, I just don’t want the hassle of pulling on tights or having my toes all smushed together by tights, so having leggings as an option to tights works for me occasionally.

That’s an interesting point about not wanting to deal with tights. Especially since tights tend to give me a muffin top (I know, right? It’s ridiculous) but leggings do not. I’ll have to think on that more.

I strictly abide by wearing leggings only if I have a top that covers my butt! When I do, though, I love how comfortable the outfit feels. I think leggings are even more comfortable than jeans.

So we have another instance in which you’re wearing something from Le Tote that I totally passed over myself! That outfit makes you look bad-ass!
