Casual clothes hoarding

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Last night I was at an event and introducing myself to people and handing out my blog business card. One of the women asked me what my “go-to” store is for work clothes. I told her that it used to be The Limited but now that I don’t have to wear business or business casual I struggle with what to wear and where to shop.

Although, occasionally, I still find things at The Limited that fit my current work dress code. Or lack thereof.

Jacket – Langford Market (similar) | Tee- Target (same) | Pants – The Limited (same) | Shoes – Bucketfeet (same)

Seriously, though. I’ve been at my current job for just over a year and I still have no idea how to dress! I have an entire closet full of clothes that either don’t fit, don’t fit with my current work environment, or just don’t seem to be “me” right now. Yet, I don’t necessarily want to get rid of all of them because I might need them in the future.

It’s funny because at work I try to convince people that it’s okay to delete old documents. But for myself I struggle with purging clothes. And emails. But that’s another story.

I told myself when I started this job that I wasn’t going to succumb to dressing like a slob. But, I admit, there are days when it’s just jeans and a t-shirt. Which, in reality, isn’t that much different from this outfit. But this outfit isn’t jeans.

In my latest Le Tote box that is on its way to me I’m getting two dresses. I hope they both fit. I also just ordered this dress in red as a causal dress – an item I don’t own very many of. Maybe that’s the answer for summer: casual dresses.

Or maybe not. Maybe I’m still a work in progress when it comes to how to dress casually.

Oooh, we’re almost reverse outfit twinsies today! I’m wearing jeans and a purple cardigan (from the clothing swap at Maggie’s, actually), and the tank top I’m wearing under my cardigan is kind of sort of ish in the green family (it’s teal, so it’s more green than, say, orange. Haha. But not quite that shade of green. Although coincidentally, I do have a tank top in that shade of green that I was thisclose to wearing instead, but I thought it made my outfit look too fall-y since my purple cardigan is a little bit darker than your purple shirt. Just because it feels like fall doesn’t mean I need to dress like it’s fall!).

I will sing my love of Old Navy forever and for always when it comes to non-schlubby, affordable, still-fairly-fashionable casual clothes. I bet at least 75% of my wardrobe, or at least 75% of the clothes I regularly wear, are from Old Navy (and they have a lot of dresses!). H&M can be good for that sort of thing, too. Actually, I think H&M tends to be one step closer to business than Old Navy, but still isn’t overly fancy/businessy. I have a decent number of items from H&M (though not nearly as many as I have from Old Navy), and it’s often really affordable, too.

The fact that I’m not wearing jeans means I’m already pretty dressed up for my current work environment, but perhaps I might feel more like “myself” if I wasn’t wearing a t-shirt. Who knows!

I have a dress coming in my next LeTote box… It’s totally not anything I would normally pick out or something that fits into my normal life, but I guess that’s the beauty of LeTote… you get to try! But now that they have the customize feature I keep removing dresses or things that are way outside my norm. Honestly, all I want is something that is big, floaty and won’t make me any hotter than the air already does right now!

PS – I’m loving your Bucketfeet shoes!

I vote YES for casual summer dresses! That’s what I’ve been wearing all week — easy fit-and-flare dresses or maxidresses — and finishing it off with sandals and a summer scarf (to wear around my shoulders in a/c). Easy, pretty, casual. đŸ™‚

Well then, I clearly need more! Sadly, that dress I ordered didn’t work out (too tight on bottom, too big on top) so I’ll be keeping my eye out for something else!

Ooooh, I’m planning a shopping trip on Thursday to one of those malls I work for, and those pants are exactly what I need. I had a similar pair from The Gap but they were too low-waisted for me.
