Why I don’t like to do laundry

Back in January I went to visit my dad in Florida and after a day touring the Ringling estate and museum we found ourselves at an outlet mall. I remembered that a coworker of mine had been raving about her Brooks Brothers no-wrinkle, no-iron shirts so I suggested we go into the Brooks Brothers outlet store. I ended up with a plain white shirt but also found this pretty blue striped one on the clearance rack.

And I’ve now actually worn the shirt three times total but I fully admit I haven’t washed it yet. I’ve been told that it’s super easy to wash, dry, and shake out and it won’t shrink or wrinkle but I’m still scared! I like it a lot and I don’t want to ruin it!

Does that make me weird? Is anyone else afraid to wash their clothes?

I’m the total opposite – if anything, I overwash. I love the feeling of freshly washed clothes, I (sometimes) enjoy going through a stack of shirts that need ironing, and I really like knowing right away how something will react to being washed, so I make sure to do it quickly after buying so that I can find out 🙂

I totally get it! I think the washing machine and especially the dryer can be harsh on clothing. I’ve had more than one article of clothing that I love get ruined by the wash, which made me unhappy. I have become very particular now about air-drying a lot of my clothes, especially my running tights/capris, sports bras, and my sweaters.

Love the shirt! Very classic and it fits you perfectly!

Incidentally – some folks and I were having a discussion the other day about when you should tuck in your shirt and when not to. One guy said that men should never tuck their shirt into their jeans. Any thoughts on shirt-tucking in general?

I kind of agree that men shouldn’t tuck shirts into jeans for the most part. However, sometimes it can look really classy if the jeans are a dark wash and the shirt is fitted. And they’re wearing a nice belt. I believe no one should tuck a shirt into pants that have belt loops if they aren’t wearing a belt!

Personally, I tend to err on the side of not tucking. I have a really short torso so sometimes tucking a shirt in makes me look ridiculous. It’s easier with skirts because showing leg helps with the proportions, but otherwise I try to only tuck if the pants are super low rise.

I hate doing laundry because we’re both terrible at folding clothes and putting them away. It is common to do a load and find that the last loads are still in our laundry baskets and/or hanging on the drying rack. I also hate ironing (I don’t even know where our iron is) so I try to avoid buying stuff that needs to be ironed.

Hahaha, that sounds just like our house, too. There is almost always something in the dryer or in one of the many laundry baskets strewn around our guest bathroom.

Oh yeah, I’ve definitely started doing laundry only to find the last load from who knows when still in the dryer.

Not as bad as finding a load still in the washer, which of course, has to be re-washed.

I totally agree! I hate doing laundry period, And in our house with two boys under 3, we do laundry every single day almost – ugh! But I always hold my breath the first time I pull something out of the washer or dryer and I purchase it. I even do it after I get something from the dry cleaner. 🙂

I cannot stand doing laundry! My tiny little one bedroom doesn’t have a washer and dryer (and I can’t bring myself to buy one since I’ll be moving at least two hours away for law school), so I get to go to the laundromat! One of my favorite experiences is when someone snooped through a load of my undergarments… There are certain pieces that I’ll drive home to wash! Haha.
