Then and Now [Vol. 3]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter · Then and Now

I know, I know. I JUST wore a black and white houndstooth outfit. But, in reality, I did actually wear these outfits on back to back days to work. No one noticed (or at least, no one said anything). I’ve admittedly been staying up too late and getting up too early which means my brain reaches for the first thing it sees outfit-wise. And in this case it was a houndstooth dress.

houndstooth-dress-2My boss at my former job used to wear a very similar outfit. Black and white wrap dress, long black cardigan, tights and flats. I always thought it was a simple and classy outfit. Yet, for some reason, it never occurred to me to wear it until my brain was half asleep and this is what I put on.

Clearly I was saving it in my subconscious for a day when I needed extra inspiration.

This dress was one of my first thrifted pieces that I ended up wearing on a regular basis. So, let’s take a look back at the very first time I wore it!

The black and white dress with the purple cardigan is still one of my favorite outfits. Sadly, those sandals are no more but clearly the dress is still going strong! And, yes, I still have the cardigan as well.

Do you like the purple cardigan or the black cardigan better? Or are they equally awesome?

Oooh, I LOVE that necklace with this outfit! The white/grey/black works so perfectly with your dress!

I am, admittedly, quite biased towards purple, but I think both cardigans look nice. The purple one seems much less winter-y though, which I suppose is the nice thing about cardigans: they make it really easy to wear one basic piece at different times of the year.

I think both cardigans look equally nice, although the purple definitely peps up your outfit. I wonder how that dress would look with a pair of purple tights too, if you were so inclined.

You know, I never think to wear colored tights! It might be something I need to try. I tend to feel they’re not very professional but they might help me feel less dressed up now that I work at a more casual office.

Definitely equally fabulous!!! That’s why that dress is so perfect….any color cardigan would be appropriate !!! Sounds like a good reason to go shopping!!! I bet you could wear this dress every day to work for a week with different pieces and no one would notice—sounds like a sociology experiment ? Jodie

I love the older outfit. And while I like the idea of the black and white outfit, you took each element of the first outfit and made it more conservative for the second, so this one looks a lot older. I love that necklace from Le Tote, but since it covers up so much skin I think it too adds to the conservativeness of the look.

Agreed that the tights plus the flats “age” this outfit. The bright color and strappy heels definitely make for a more youthful look. I suppose that now that I’m closer to 40 than 20 I should start thinking about these things 🙂

I am coveting that necklace so hard I might have to break down and buy it even at the non-member price!

And I like this new outfit especially with the red bag.
