I need a new shirt

Casual Friday

Today you get a “real blogger beauty” photo. What do I mean by that? I mean we took it last night after I’d worked all day (and gone to the gym). You get end-of-day make-up and end-of-day hair. Proof that I really wore this to work, I suppose.

Jason and I braved the coldest temperatures of the year (not kidding) and met for drinks after work at Bar Takito which is right next to the train stop and around the corner from Chewie’s day care. So these photos are post-drink as well.

polka-dot-sweater-gray-jeans-3Also, I need shopping advice. Yes. Me. I need to know where your favorite chambray shirt is from (if you own one that you love). This one is just a tad too short on me and I don’t love that it’s a bit stiff. And the collar acts funny. So, I need a replacement. I’m intrigued by the one I linked above from Express but I’d love to crowdsource some ideas as well.

polka-dot-sweater-gray-jeans-1I’ll even take you out for a drink.

Yes, it’s another reminder. Vote, please?

Jason was watching the movie Office Space on Sunday. Have you seen it? One of my favorite lines is, “ I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything that I thought it could be.”

That was my weekend. And it was glorious. I actually didn’t change out of my lounge clothes all day Sunday and since I’m pretty sure you don’t want to see pictures of that, here’s an outfit I wore to work last week.

I don’t typically wear all black and, this is going to seem weird to say after my crazy pattern mixing post, sometimes I just want one pattern to stand out. Such was the case with this Le Tote scarf. I originally thought about pairing it with my new striped top but, in the end, I went with all black.

I do love the way these faux leather pants look because they add much needed texture and interest to certain outfits. However, they are HUGE in the waist. Huge. And they kind of make a weird swishy noise when I walk. But I like them too much to care, really. The waist thing is annoying because I don’t always like belts. But I’ll make the sacrifice.

Vested Again

Casual Clothes · Casual Friday

Pssst! Voting is open for your favorite outfit of December!

I know, I know. You just saw this vest but like I mentioned the last few times I’ve talked about packing to travel, I love to throw vests on because they can change up an entire outfit AND they help keep you warm. And since I took this vest to visit my parents and now since I’m showing you what I wore on that trip, well, you get to see it again.

Funny story, though. I wore this outfit without the scarf when visiting my family for Christmas. Why? Well, I really wanted to but, see, I’d put a plain black scarf on my Christmas list and then I ended up getting one from my Secret Safety Officer (our version of Secret Santa) at work and he didn’t even know I had one on my list! But since I didn’t know if one of my family members had gotten me a black scarf I didn’t want to wear it and make them upset that I’d already gotten one.

However, I REALLY like it better with the scarf so this is totally how I wanted to wear it. But, I sacrificed my good looks until after we opened presents. Turned out no one else got me a black scarf so I would have been safe! And I’m happy my Secret Safety Officer asked his girlfriend for help when picking me out a gift.

striped-shirt-olive-vest-2Also, I clearly have a problem when wearing stripes and a vest when visiting my parents. This particular top is replacing the one I wore last time (seen here). I put this one in my closet from Le Tote because I was looking for a replacement for my old Loft one. This one is perfect which is why it’s not getting sent back. Sorry anyone else who wanted it! Just kidding. They have more than one. Proof? Sarah at Sarah’s Real Life wore it the same time I did.

Favorite Outfit of December

Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter

In the midst of everyone going over their favorite outfits from 2014 I’m still over here asking you to vote for your favorite from December! It’s easier, though, because there aren’t very many. Travel, food poisoning, and general holiday craziness put a damper on my posting.

But first, a shout-out to my mom. Today is her birthday and I have to say that we’ve been influencing each others fashion choices for years. In fact, I think she was more adventurous than I was! I distinctly remember her trying to get me to mix patterns as a kid and me saying no way

My, how times have changed.

However, one thing hasn’t changed. As usual, I can’t pick just one outfit as my favorite. I have two.

december-outfitsI just couldn’t pick. Of course the one on the left might be influenced by my adorable blog co-star (seen below). But the one on the right was so fun I actually wore it twice in December. I loved the red cardigan with the black and plaid.

Either way, both of these outfits fit my current favorite version of casual: solid colors with pattern accents. And jeans, of course.

So, now it’s your turn to tell me what you liked the best from December! Don’t forget, you should be able to click on each photo to see it full sized at the original post. And you can vote using the poll below!

And, if you’re curious, the camel sweater, green jeans and plaid scarf won for November. So of course I wore it again on Friday.

Welcome to 2015! I typically do my “year in review” post in February during my blog’s birthday month so don’t expect a full recap from me right now.

I’m sure you’re relieved, right? There ARE only so many year-end-recap posts one can read at a time, I’m sure.

Your eyes might not be relieved at this outfit, though. It’s a lot of pattern. But, it’s what I wore to celebrate Christmas with my family and no one’s eyes started bleeding so I think it’s okay.

plaid-shirt-houndstooth-vest-3 Other patterns I’ve noticed over the past few months?

I’m having a difficult time figuring out my new style. Am I casual? Am I dressy? Do I care what people at the office think? I didn’t realize how much I actually enjoyed being “forced” to dress up or just how much having a boss with amazing style impacted me.

I am in awe of people who post “flat” outfits on Instagram using those white backgrounds and no shadows. How is this possible?

In the same vein, how do they keep all those Instagram style challenges straight? And do I want to do the same thing?

Finally, I mentioned awhile back (and maybe just on Facebook...) that I’m thinking of trying something new starting in February. I’ve saved so many outfits on Pinterest that I want to recreate with items I already own. So I’m thinking I want to try and purchase as few items as possible and use what I already have in my closet to put together outfits using Pinterest as inspiration.

I know there are already blogs out there that recreate inspiration photos and blogs that recreate stuff on Pinterest but do any of them do it without shopping? Hmm…
