Then and Now [Vol. 2]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter · Then and Now

What is “Then and Now”? My goal is to take an outfit that’s already been worn on the blog and show you how I’m wearing it now and talk about what I changed and why.

My bow tie print dress has been hanging in my closet since I wore it to my last day at work at my old job. I hadn’t worn it to my new job because it just felt too…over the top, I guess. But I decided recently that I didn’t care and was going to wear it anyway,

I also figured this was a good chance to do another Then and Now installment. Here’s how I wore it the last time it was chilly outside.

Clearly I like to stick with a black and gold pallet, huh?

This time I left off the belt and wore ankle boots instead of heels. I also added more opaque tights. And, to be honest, I like the look of the cardigan and the heels (and the belt) much better.

I sort of felt like a little kid all day in my dress over my turtleneck. I’ve worn dresses over turtlenecks before (evidence) but it tended to be with more streamlined dresses. I think the belt and the cardigan help tone down the fullness of the skirt and the heels definitely do a better job of not cutting me off at the ankles. I still don’t like the look of ankle boots with dresses or skirts no matter how many times I try it!

So, what do you think? Do you prefer one outfit over the other? Why?

Hi Erin, I like different elements from both looks. Since you’re talking about wearing the dress to work, I like the top half covered somewhat (so the cardigan, but I think a jacket would be just as appropriate—even a non-black jacket). I know exactly how you feel about the ankle boots & dresses thing; however, it really does look good with the darker tights—and very modern! The sheer black hose & pumps almost look too old for you in comparison! So that’s my two cents….have a fantastic day! Jodie

I like the “now” tights (but probably with flats instead of boots) but the older outfit. I agree with you that there’s something childish about a bow pattern and turtleneck. What a fun dress!

You know, as much I appreciate your more casual office style since it works for me, I think it’s AWESOME that you wear what you want to wear to work because it makes you happy. Unwritten rules be damned! You do you, man…er, woman. Ha.
