I swear it’s navy

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Winter

Do you know the most difficult color to photograph? It’s navy. I swear it is.

jcrew-plaid-scarfIt’s the navy J. Crew Schoolboy blazer but it NEVER photographs as navy. I don’t know why!

I know, I know. First world problems. Other first world problems? I’m flying to Florida tomorrow to visit my dad and I haven’t packed or even thought about what to pack. Or what to wear on the plane. Or finished running all my errands.

I need a personal assistant.  Preferably one who can figure out how to photograph navy.

You are right- it is! And I’m digging your boots- I love the black version so may have to save up my Shopbop dollars! Do you feel they fit true to size? I love the lower heel and the wraparound leather strap…doesn’t make my size 9 feet look like I’m wearing clown shoes!

I bought them in a size 38 and I normally wear a 7.5. They’re a little bit loose in the heel but otherwise fit fine. I like them that way, though, because it makes them easier to get on since there’s no zipper.

Disclaimer: my photography knowledge is basically “Push the button, get a picture,” (and “fast shutter speeds = better sports photos”), so you can take this with a pretty hefty grain of salt, but have you ever tried playing the with color balance on your camera when you shoot navy? I don’t know if that’s even possible with your equipment, but maybe it’s worth looking into. Otherwise, I do know that pairing a color with its opposite from the other side of the color wheel can make that color stand out, so maybe if you have the option, try photographing yourself in navy in front of an orange/gold background? I have no idea what kind of results that would yield, but I guess if you’re open to experimenting, it’s worth trying a variety of things to see what works best!

Yes, it IS hard to photograph a dark navy! I have also found it hard to get a mini-striped pattern show up on film. My mini-striped white and blue button-down always looks like a solid light blue in photos.

By the way, love your scarf and grey booties!
