Breaking the Rules: Wearing Leggings to Work

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

Two things first:

1. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite outfit of October! So far it’s a landslide for one of my favorite outfits.

You guys, I did it. I wore leggings to work. Something I swore I would never do. Although, to be honest, they’re actually running tights, not traditional leggings, but still. I wore them. And I kind of liked it.

plaid-letote-shift-dress-3Of course, I wore them under a dress and not with a short shirt or something. I still can’t endorse that. But wearing them as footless tights? Okay, maybe that I can get behind.  I hate to say it but they ARE pretty comfy.

So, what do you think? Are leggings worn like this okay for the office or am I on a slippery slope to wearing my pajamas to work?

I think this look really works for you. Printed leggings seem like they are REALLY in right now and if you keep them under a dress or skirt you should be able to totally pull wearing them to work off!

I really like the look and don’t think it’s in appropriate at all!!

Also–yay Old Navy workout tights. I love them (especially at the price point/when they go on sale) and find that they hold up as well or better than my expensive ones!

See, I think there’s a classy way to wear leggings as pants (in any context) and a terrible way to wear leggings as pants (in any context), and this definitely falls into the classy category. Like you said, this way, they’re essentially footless tights, and I think that’s appropriate and fine for just about anything. When people wear leggings as a way of not being naked (but essentially being naked, since you can see err’thing as if they weren’t wearing pants in the first place), that’s when things become problematic as far as I’m concerned.

Basically the only way I will allow leggings without a top long enough to cover my butt is at the gym or on a run in the winter! Otherwise, yeah, they are NOT pants!
