Preppy Pink and Green

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

Do you ever have one of those days when you check the weather 100 times when trying to decide what to wear? Today was one of those days. Another cool, gray, rainy day in Chicago but I saw this outfit on Pinterest and wanted to wear it. A pop of color on a gray day? Cropped pants but worn with a button-up and a sweater? Seemed like a good fall outfit to me.

It occurs to me looking at the photo now that she might be wearing a navy sweater. And I have a navy sweater. But for some reason black seemed more appropriate for fall. Also, I left off the pearls. Right now some of my jewelry seems too over the top for work. But this outfit? I felt perfect in it. I just tossed on my rain boots for my commute to work and to pick up Chewie from doggy day care.

And speaking of Chewie, of course he needed to make an appearance.

First of all, Erin, thank you SO much for your kind words on my post yesterday and for tweeting my link. Your comment meant the world to me and that was really thoughtful of you to put it out on Twitter! So thanks for just being awesome in general! Now onto today’s outfit! Your pin re-creation turned out great and I agree with the styling changes you made to give your look a more professional vibe. I am dying for some metallic flats now, though! They are such a great touch and could go with a million things! My wheels are turning….

Hahahahaha I love how sneaky Chewie’s being in that last photo. What a goof.

You know, I’ve never been entirely sold on colored pants, but I think with an outfit like this they look REALLY good. I imagine it’s all about balancing out the color on bottom with neutral on top and all that, but the way you’ve styled it here seems to really, really work. (Not enough to convince me to buy colored pants, mind you, but maybe a colored skirt or something 😉 )

There are also a ton of photos where he’s just a blur in the background but I try to pick the ones where he’s standing still 🙂

I agree that it’s easier to tone down colored pants when you wear them with a mostly solid colored neutral top. And I know other people who can’t handle colored pants who are fine with colored skirts. So, um, colored skirts with a black sweater for spring? 🙂

I really like this outfit. And I think incheck the weather a billion times per day. Sometimes I feel like I check but don’t really register and have to check it again two seconds later. But in this town, it’s a must! I don’t think Chicago even knows what it’s own weather is like sometimes. It just can’t decide.

I would have never thought of this combination! Thanks for mentioning the navy option. I decided to go with a navy cardigan instead but I might try black next time.
