Blogging and Beer

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

I tried to be a good little blogger yesterday and take my outfit photo at my new lunch spot. I walked over there, set up the tripod, and realized that while I had my camera case I did not have my camera. Blogger fail.

So, I took a photo when I got home while the chili I put in the crockpot was cooking.

And then I proceeded not to have any of that chili. Why? Because instead I attended the Don’t Fear Your Beer event at Lakeshore Beverage with quite a few other Windy City Bloggers.

photoTheir event space is AMAZING. Not only do they have a huge room with a giant bar in the middle, a faux fireplace, bookcases, and comfy seating areas, they also have a theater with stadium seating for presentations. So, after enjoying beers at the bar we went into the theater to learn about how to taste beer. I personally learned that I still don’t like IPAs and stouts (although, stout over ice cream is do-able) but that Belgian-style wheat beers and farmhouse ales are where it’s at for me.

So, thanks to Lakeshore Beverage for showing us the ways of beer! And for making me want to throw a party in your event space. Maybe a beer tasting party for my birthday?

DANG. That space looks beautiful. I went to an event back in June at this killer venue in the West Loop that made me really appreciate awesome venues.

I can’t do IPAs, either. Then again, I don’t really like the taste of beer, so I guess that’s not entirely surprising 😉 Cider, however…love me some cider. And not-too-beer-y beers 😛

Oooh, what venue was it in the West Loop? I love that so many places have refurbed West Loop buildings into awesome new spaces.

Jason’s the same as you in that he loves ciders and fruit-flavored beers.

I don’t know if it actually has a name, to be honest. SRAM owns it and I think it’s kind of their own thing, but it’s in the 1300 block of Randolph. You can kind of get an idea of what it looks like here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.795246743833459.1073741835.207816112576528&type=1. But it’s great, imo. They have turf down the middle of the space with soccer goals on both ends of the turf, AN IN-GROUND TRAMPOLINE (I know. That’s what really sold me on the place :P), and this whole garage-theme kind of going on. It feels like an inside backyard!

When people tell me they don’t like beer, I usually respond with ” because you haven’t tried the right one yet.” Many people think lager and India pale ales are the only beer styles. Thankfully as the craft beer scene grows so does the education of the masses. Looks like a great space for a fantastic experience.

I’m really glad you enjoyed our space and had a good time! Cheers to trying some new beers, hopefully you’ll find some more stuff you like to drink. I agree with Kelly, it’s all about preference and experimentation — you don’t know what you like until you try it.

I’m pretty sure IPAs make be bloated. Sour beers do not though, and I prefer the taste of those anyway. Or ciders if there are no sours. There should be more sours though.
