July Shopping Summary

Life may be crazy but I honestly haven’t done a lot of retail therapy. Okay, maybe a bit! But it’s only because Target sucks me in every time. Oh, and I worked at a half marathon expo and I am incapable of being surrounded by running goodies and not purchase something.

july-shopping-summary1. Apera Bags Active Pack Gym Backpack – $86 w/expo discount (same)

2. Sole Society Celia Silver Loafers – $59.95* (same)

3. Sperry Top Sider Chandler Pewter Boat Shoes via ebay – $15 w/gift card from Influenster (same)

4. Target Merona Pink Tori Sandals – $19 (same)

5. Target Merona Boyfriend Blazer – $35 (same)

6. Be Good Tees – $15 total w/credit from Earndit (same)

7. Target Merona Vintage Tees – $16 total on sale (same)

8. Tortoise Resin Link Necklace – $8

*This money has been sitting in my Sole Society account since January. Do I count it or not since it was already spent once? I’m going with not counting it again.

Total: $194

Plain tees are my new favorite thing to wear this summer and they work well for my office, too, so I’ve been slowly stocking up on them. I actually like the Target ones better than the Be Good ones although, if you’re into sustainable enviro-friendly manufacturing then go with the Be Good ones. They’re still nice tees, just a little shorter and boxier then I would like.

I’d had my eye on the Sperry’s for months and finally found a pair in my size on ebay. Combined with the fact that I earned a $25 ebay gift card from Influenster for writing three shopping guides, I went ahead and ordered these to replace my silver Nine West boat shoes that are about to fall apart.

And the silver loafers? Well, as I said when I wore them, these are instead of buying a pair of silver heels which had also been on my wish list for months.

The necklace was the only item I brought home and kept from a clothing swap I went to last weekend. I paid $8 to attend so I figure the necklace cost me $8. Still a good deal if you ask me.

I saw the pink sandals at Target when I was there this weekend running errands but they didn’t have my size. Enter my Target Red Card and free shipping. I hardly have any brightly colored shoes (other than my pink heels) and I thought these would be a fun addition. They should arrive on Friday so hopefully they work out! The white blazer should arrive on Friday, too, and I’m REALLY hoping that works out. I’ve been wanting a white boyfriend blazer for at least a year and haven’t yet found one that I didn’t think resembled a lab coat or didn’t cost hundreds of dollars. Fingers crossed this one works out.

Finally, my new gym bag. My old one was a freebie I got for running a half marathon in 2010 and it was being held together by safety pins at this point. I wanted another gym backpack, not a shoulder or duffel bag and when I saw this one at the Rock and Roll Chicago Half Marathon expo I knew I had to have it. It’s totally amazing and for every three bags that Apera sells they donate one to the Special Olympics.

So, overall, I think I did pretty well in July. Now that my office isn’t basically next to Express, Target, Nordstrom Rack, H&M, Forever 21 and DSW I have a feeling I’ll be doing a tad less shopping. Oh, it also helps that I’m less likely to online shop at work, too!

Well done Erin! I’m curious to see the inside of the gym bag- looks like a lot of good storage compartments! And those Sperry’s are adorable! I contemplated some sparkly navy ones a while back but that pewter color is so much more versatile (will have to keep that in mind when my current pair dies!)

And tell me more about the eBay Influenster reviews…I saw that but it seemed like it took a long time to write those- what do you think?

The bag is SO AWESOME. It has a large main pocket with a smaller mesh pocket inside. Then it has a large pocket on the front that has a divider and then a smaller pocket on top of that. It has a breathable pocket on each side where you can put one shoe each along with two water bottle pockets. Then it has a small pocket near the top handle that’s lined with non-abrasive material for your phone or sunglasses. The back has a large waterproof pocket where you can put your sweaty clothes or your swimsuit. And the straps are super comfy! Highly, highly recommended.

I liked these Sperry’s because they are a bit dressier and more streamlined. The only downside is that they aren’t adjustable with the ties like the original style ones. Oh well!

The Influenster ebay buying guide did take me a little while each but that was more because ebay’s template was a bit finicky and I kept thinking I screwed it up when it was really just fine. I haven’t done the selling guides, yet, but I’m thinking about it. Especially now that I only have to do two instead of three!

I just watched the video summary of the bag– WOW! So two things: they say there is room for a tablet in the front- do you think it is big enough to hold a thin laptop? And do they offer discount codes from time to time? This would be so much nicer than my duffel bag that I use to carry gym wear and my laptop/planner–it kills my shoulder and hits my side like crazy when I walk!

They do have another similar backpack that has an actual spot for a laptop (http://aperabags.com/puresport/tech-pack). I think for the one I have the space issue would be less about the thickness of the laptop and more about the width and height. If your laptop is the same width and height as a tablet then it would be fine. If you want to tell me your laptop’s dimensions I’ll see if it would fit!

I know they occasionally do sales and if you can find them at an expo they sometimes offer discounts there. Or maybe you could contact them to do a review 🙂

Yes from influenster – I thought the gift card was a lot more rewarding than a small box of samples. I hope they plan to do more like that!

I have approximately 20394382 of those drawstring bags you often get at races, and since I don’t need to bring too much to the gym, I’ve found it to be a worthy gym bag for me. However, I have this one drawstring bag from college that is absolutely falling apart — it used to be lined (and/or insulated? idk. It looked like it might’ve been somewhat insulated), and the lining has completely detached from the bag, the bag itself is so dirty and worn, but yet I INSIST on using it all the time anyway. It’s the only bag I use for gear check at races, and it’s the only bag I’ll bring to dance. WHY?! I have so many other bags that would serve that purpose perfectly, but no, no. I insist on using my college one. (Though, I suppose somewhat in my defense, it’s bright orange, which is why I like it for gear check since it sticks out, and it is a bit bigger than my other bags, so it can hold more).

It’s because we hate change 🙂 Seriously, I was so picky about what bag would replace my poor, sad, falling apart North Shore Half Marathon 2010 bag. I even contemplated buying another one on ebay or something!

That apera bag looks awesome. I am also a big fan of the backpack. Especially for triathlons and other times when I need to carry a lot of stuff. I’ve just been using my backpack from college but maybe I’ll have to upgrade to that bag!

I love simple tees for the summer. Plus they are so cheap that when they have sweat stains at the end of summer I don’t feel bad throwing them away.

I love those target sandals! I’ve had my eye on them all summer, but I keep convincing myself that I don’t need them.

I hope they work out! I honestly didn’t even try them on 🙂 I just know that when you look at my shoe collection it’s all neutrals. Especially my sandals! It needed some color love.
