SIA: The Accidental Outfit

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer · Style Imitating Art

Hey, everyone! How’s it going? I had an insanely busy weekend and my husband (aka my photographer) was working for almost all of it.

My weekend consisted of:

  • Taking Chewie to the dog park
  • Making cinnamon sugar pecans and chocolate chip peanut butter cheesecake bars for a bake sale
  • Helping a lovely woman edit her closet before a move (shout out to Susan! It was lovely to meet you!)
  • Attending a clothing swap
  • Making a new recipe for dinner
  • Attending a fundraiser at Revolution Brewing
  • Doing laundry, going to Target, making a menu and grocery list, and watering plants

Notice that it did not involve taking any outfit photos. Which meant that I was sad that I wasn’t going to be participating in this week’s Style Imitating Art as chosen by Jen. She chose a lovely Henri Mattisse painting called Pot of Geraniums and it’s just full of fun colors.

But then, when I got home from work on Monday, I realized that my outfit already had two of the main colors in it! All I needed to add was some pink. And so this outfit was born.

Navy shirt with green pants and pink shoes, Chicago style bloggertortoise-resin-necklaceShirt – Old Navy (similar) | Pants – Express (similar) | Shoes – Jessica Simpson via Poshmark (similar) | Necklace – clothing swap (similar)

Admittedly, to work I wore silver boat shoes and my blue necklace but I think I like this version better. The pop of the pink in the shoes just takes it a bit over the edge, right?

Also, this picture was taken using our DSLR, remote, and a tripod. It was a pain in the ass. Hat’s off to bloggers who do that on the regular!!

I like the outfit! (I think) I saw that top on Old Navy clearance a few weeks ago and was disappointed when it didn’t fit me right 🙁

Random question: How do you find out about clothing swaps? Are these with friends of yours, through blogger networking? It’s something I want to do without having to host one myself at the moment.

I bought this particular Old Navy top years ago, but maybe they have something similar this season! Too bad it didn’t fit you right.

I found out about this particular clothing swap via Suburban Style Challenge because she posted about it on Facebook. She always seems to know about them! I’m not sure how. Maybe she belongs to some thrifting communities where she hears about them? I should ask her!

Thank you! There are not tons of Birmingham, AL style bloggers (that I know of)–maybe I need to go looking to see if there are similar events in my area 🙂

You’ve just been killing it in the fun shoe department lately, between those blue/black ones and now these. I love what they add to your outfit! It’s an awesome and unexpected color addition that I think goes really well with both the navy and green. Speaking of navy: that top is adorable. Big fan!

I think this top was the first navy item I ever bought! I used to hate navy. Now I can’t get enough 🙂

Also, I’m sad that I bought these shoes right before I changed jobs. My heels just aren’t getting as much love lately. These may have to get worn more often even if heels aren’t the norm around here!

Sounds like a busy but productive weekend- I love those! And I love this outfit- that green/pink looks so great! And is the top black or navy? Either way, it totally works! (And I thought I was in the “big leagues” when I got my tripod and timer on my fancy camera when I upgraded from my point & shoot- I had 5 seconds to press the button and run into position. #bloggerproblems)

The top is actually navy! As I was telling Bethany, I think this is the first navy thing I ever bought.

I used to do the timer on my point and shoot (it has burst mode which is nice) but I’ve just gotten so spoiled! Plus, hauling the DSLR and the giant tripod around is much more work than my little purse side tripod and camera 🙂 But, Jason’s out of town this weekend so guess who will be getting used to using the tripod?

Cinnamon sugar pecans and chocolate chip peanut butter cheesecake, YUM!

Love how the pink shoes pop against the green pants. Very creative!

On a side note – I just bought this gorgeous pencil skirt which has a front slit. It’s fine when I’m standing up or walking around, but when I sit I have to be really careful otherwise risk showing a bit too much. It’s actually pretty uncomfortable. Any advice?

As I mentioned at lunch, see if the dry cleaner can stitch that skirt up a little bit so it’s not so revealing!

Also, would you believe I didn’t even get to eat any of the cheesecake bars? I sold most of them at a bake sale and Jason at the other two. Thankfully I’ve had them before so I know that they’re tasty.
