Treading Water

About Me

Hello everyone! So far I’m surviving my first week at my new job but there are a lot of things that are throwing some monkey wrenches into taking outfit photos right now.

However, I’ve been rewearing some outfits so here’s a tribute to what I’ve worn so far this week:

From left to right:

Swap the leopard shoes for my silver boat shoes and this outfit is pretty much exactly what I wore on Tuesday.

No changes from the white jeans and cobalt shirt for Wednesday.

I used this outfit photo from Mix & Match Fashion to inspire my Thursday outfit. I wore jeans with my pink shoes and my gray moto jacket and my white Target tee (which washed up perfectly, by the way) and got one compliment on my shoes!

I’m just having a really difficult time with my schedule right now, though, so I honestly don’t know when I’ll be able to take photos.

See, my husband, who just graduated with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, also started his new job this week. His schedule is 6AM to 2PM right now and my schedule is 8AM to 5PM.

We only get a few hours to see each other after work before he goes to bed which we mostly spend making dinner and watching an hour of tv. Both of our work schedules are new to us (I used to work 9 to 5) and are taking some getting used to in terms of energy levels.

I’m also struggling with when I’m going to work out so that I don’t waste our together time in the evenings. I might have to become a SUPER morning person (FYI – I hate mornings) and get up at 4:30 AM so I can get in a workout at 5AM. Or figure out if I can workout at lunch and make it back to my desk in time. I’m currently signed up for a half marathon in August and I’m supposed to be leading a half marathon training group until the end of July. Not sure when I’m going to find the time to do all this running.

Plus there’s the puppy who needs love, attention, and to go outside to pee all the time. And there’s our weekend schedule that is currently ridiculously overbooked.

Which means I’m just trying to keep my head above water right now! I know you all understand but I feel weird leaving you hanging without some kind of explanation.

    Oh wow, your schedule really does sound crazy! It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes to start work at 8 AM versus at 9 AM, isn’t it? That one extra hour is huge. And I totally relate to the not wanting to waste the evening hours working out, too. Adam tends to work heavier hours, so I try to make sure that my workouts are done by the time he gets home around 7 PM – but it’s not always easy. I hope your schedule calms down soon!

      Eventually Jason will be working a schedule where he gets several week days off in a row and will spend some weeks working 2PM to 11PM. Hopefully once we’ve been doing this for awhile everything will settle into a routine. I’m also thinking about running home from work so that I’ll get home only slightly after I would if I took the train!

    Story of my life! I am STILL trying to figure it out! I tend to do a “power hour” where I wake up early and do all my personal emailing, blogging, etc. then get ready, take my outfit photo, head to work and either workout during lunch or after work (as long as the hubs isn’t working late so Izzy can be let outside!) I so wish I could workout in the AM, but I can never get an intense workout in like I can later in the day…

    At least the long hours of daylight in the summer helps so I can push off a run later in the evening, go on family walks with Izzy, etc. Evenings are so tough because there is limited, precious time to be with spouse + fur baby. Good luck!!!

      I was getting into a habit of working out at 6AM but 5AM is going to take some time to get used to even THINKING about!

      My schedule at work right now is rather packed which I love but it means trying to squeeze in a workout might be tough. On the plus side, there is a gym in the building that has 30 minute classes over lunch that I could attend. I’m going to ask around and see if anyone else goes.

    I always had 8am start jobs, since starting my first post-college job. However, I always ended my day at 4pm or 4:30pm. My current job, which I started a year ago, is the first time I’ve had a 9am start. It really does make a difference. I have no advice though. I’m not a morning person either.
