As casual as I get

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Well, yesterday was my first day at my new job and I’m pretty sure my brains were leaking out of my ears by the end of the day. So much to learn, so many people to meet, and my new boss has so many great ideas. I’m really excited to get settled and do some awesome stuff in the next few months.

When my husband saw me before work he said, “I thought the dress code was casual?”

“This is as casual as I get!”

Seriously, though, I was definitely overdressed for the most part. Jeans, shorts, flip-flops: I saw it all.

This means I might be working jeans into my wardrobe a bit more, but right now I don’t see myself wearing them every day. Especially since I’ll eventually be leading trainings. Definitely a culture adjustment, though!

Also, my days will probably be busy for awhile and I’ve gone from a private office to a cube (which I honestly don’t mind) so I doubt I’ll be doing any lunch hour blogging for awhile, either.

Which, again, means posts might be sporadic. I know you understand, though! Don’t forget, you can always follow Loop Looks on Facebook or Twitter for new post notifications. Or, you know, you can sign up to get emails when a new post goes up. Just fill out that little box on the left!

See I think that outfit is casual but against the spectrum of flip flops and jeans…I suppose that might be more dressed up! Still cute nonetheless! I always like to dress up a little more–doesn’t hurt at all! And I SO wish I had time for lunchtime blogging but I’m in a cube too and feel like I’d be “caught.” 🙂

After a week of seeing what people wear I think I’m just resigned to the fact that I’m going to be slightly more dressed up than 80% of the people. That’s okay with me, though! Dress for the job you want, not the job you have, right? (Although most of the executives dress casual, too…)

Amen! I really like dressing up…is that weird?! And if you look nice, people have good impressions of you (or at least I’d like to think so..) they take you more seriously for sure!

I think it’s smart to not be too casual on your first day anyway – and isn’t it better to be a little overdressed than under-dressed (although it sounds like that would be hard to do in your new office)?

Cube life does make blogging/reading blogs a little more difficult, but I suppose you should be focusing on that new job anyway 🙂

I love it!! Also this gives me an idea for an outfit from my own clothes 🙂 And my dress code is (I think) technically business casual with the exception that we can wear jeans every day, but I’ve seen some hoodies and flip flops sneak in.

I also went from a private office to a cube, and other than not being able to close a door to change into running clothes (now I just do it in the bathroom or the fitness center in the basement), I don’t mind. It feels so much more social this way.

Oooh, can I start giving you workplace fashion advice now?? How the tables have turned! Haha. Although what you’re wearing is admittedly pretty similar to what I’d wear on a day where I want to feel like I look decent at work, so maybe your office is even more casual than mine! Although I do definitely wear flip fops to work…

I could probably wear jeans everyday to work too but I don’t. I still wear them like twice a week and some of my outfits are pretty casual. But I just feel better about working when I am dressed nicely.

I honestly don’t have enough jeans that I like to wear jeans every day! When they were a 2-3 day a week item I didn’t need that many. Now I’m beginning to think I might need to go jeans shopping.
