Stripes and Polka Dots

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer · Style Imitating Art

After my minor freak out on Friday, I was able to carve out some time this weekend to run 7 miles, attend my first Milwaukee Brewers game, get in a great workout at Crosstown Fitness, and take some outfit photos!

I didn’t want to miss today because it’s another Style Imitating Art pick, this time by Animated Cardigan.

Luggage Barcode Sunset No. 4, by Douglas Coupland

Interestingly enough, the outfits that came to mind when I saw this were ones I’ve already worn. One was even for another Style Imitating Art post and the other was for a different style challenge I used to do. So, I figured, why mess too much with a good thing?

This outfit is actually quite comfortable and even though it’s something I would have worn to my less-casual office job in the summer, it still works for my current job. Albeit, I’m probably one of the most dressed up people in the office (seriously, cargo shorts and flip flops are the norm for guys and let’s not even talk about what some of the women on the phone sales team wear). Still, I feel good in this outfit and, for me, that’s part of the reason I get dressed. Sure, I could wear a ratty tank top and jeans to work, but why?

Although, this winter I’m pretty sure I’ll be all about the jeans. Which means I need to go shopping for jeans. Ugh. I’d rather go swimsuit shopping!

Treading Water

About Me

Hello everyone! So far I’m surviving my first week at my new job but there are a lot of things that are throwing some monkey wrenches into taking outfit photos right now.

However, I’ve been rewearing some outfits so here’s a tribute to what I’ve worn so far this week:

From left to right:

Swap the leopard shoes for my silver boat shoes and this outfit is pretty much exactly what I wore on Tuesday.

No changes from the Viagra manforce for Wednesday.

I used this outfit photo from Mix & Match Fashion to inspire my Thursday outfit. I wore jeans with my pink shoes and my gray moto jacket and my white Target tee (which washed up perfectly, by the way) and got one compliment on my shoes!

I’m just having a really difficult time with my schedule right now, though, so I honestly don’t know when I’ll be able to take photos.

So, if you’re just here for the photos, you can leave and check back Monday or Tuesday. If you want to hear me moan about my schedule struggles, read on.

See, my husband, who just graduated with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, also started his new job this week. His schedule is 6AM to 2PM right now and my schedule is 8AM to 5PM.

We only get a few hours to see each other after work before he goes to bed which we mostly spend making dinner and watching an hour of tv. Both of our work schedules are new to us (I used to work 9 to 5) and are taking some getting used to in terms of energy levels.

I’m also struggling with when I’m going to work out so that I don’t waste our together time in the evenings. I might have to become a SUPER morning person (FYI – I hate mornings) and get up at 4:30 AM so I can get in a workout at 5AM. Or figure out if I can workout at lunch and make it back to my desk in time. I’m currently signed up for a half marathon in August and I’m supposed to be leading a half marathon training group until the end of July. Not sure when I’m going to find the time to do all this running.

Plus there’s the puppy who needs love, attention, and to go outside to pee all the time. And there’s our weekend schedule that is currently ridiculously overbooked.

Which means I’m just trying to keep my head above water right now! I know you all understand but I feel weird leaving you hanging without some kind of explanation.

As casual as I get

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Well, yesterday was my first day at my new job and I’m pretty sure my brains were leaking out of my ears by the end of the day. So much to learn, so many people to meet, and my new boss has so many great ideas. I’m really excited to get settled and do some awesome stuff in the next few months.

When my husband saw me before work he said, “I thought the dress code was casual?”

“This is as casual as I get!”

Seriously, though, I was definitely overdressed for the most part. Jeans, shorts, flip-flops: I saw it all.

This means I might be working jeans into my wardrobe a bit more, but right now I don’t see myself wearing them every day. Especially since I’ll eventually be leading trainings. Definitely a culture adjustment, though!

Also, my days will probably be busy for awhile and I’ve gone from a private office to a cube (which I honestly don’t mind) so I doubt I’ll be doing any lunch hour blogging for awhile, either.

Which, again, means posts might be sporadic. I know you understand, though! Don’t forget, you can always follow Loop Looks on Facebook or Twitter for new post notifications. Or, you know, you can sign up to get emails when a new post goes up. Just fill out that little box on the left!

Put a bow on it

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Happy Friday! Today is my last day at my current job and we’re having an appreciation lunch for some departmental liaisons which means I’m only in the office half a day. What could be a better way to end six years here? Well, wearing my favorite bow dress certainly adds some extra joy to a day that will be bittersweet.

If you had told me seven years ago that I would be moving on to my second job in downtown Chicago and living in a two bedroom apartment in the city with an 8 month old puppy I would not have believed you.

I moved to the city area for this job six years ago and in those six years my life has changed so much. I’ve grown so much professionally and personally. I’ve learned skills I didn’t even know I had. I’ve made more friends in six years than I had in all of high school and college combined.

Everyone keeps asking me if I’m excited to start my new job and the answer is yes! I am looking forward to the new challenge which is not something I thought I would ever say about myself, either. I will certainly miss some of my coworkers and some of the perks of my current job but I’m ready to do something new.

As I mentioned on Monday, I don’t know what the new job will mean for the blog but hopefully you’ll stick around for the ride. I’m sure it will be fun for everyone!

Thank Goodness for Cardigans

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Yesterday was the weirdest weather day I’ve experienced in awhile. It took me forever to figure out what to wear because it was hot and humid when I left for work. I ended up with a tank and a skirt and grabbed a cardigan just in case.

Top – Banana Republic Outlet (similar) | Skirt –White House Black Market (similar) | Shoes – Vince Camuto (similar) | Necklace – Etsy (similar)

It ended up raining mid-morning which cooled everything down so that by the time I left work early so I could get ready to go to an outdoor concert (American Authors, The Script and One Republic, all of which were amazing) I was chilly even with the cardigan!

At the outdoor concert I wore jeans, boat shoes, a tee, a scarf, a hat, and a jacket and was still bundled up under a blanket! Crazy.

Thankfully the rain stopped as soon as we sat down on the lawn at Ravinia because even though I was prepared with an umbrella and a rain jacket I don’t know how long I would have lasted in the chilly rain. The bands were good but I’m just a wuss sometimes!

Pretty to a Tee

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

So, leaving a job is pretty weird. At least it is for me right now. I don’t have much work to do other than be there to help the person who is taking over transition. And host a giveaway. Which you should go enter.

At least I can look pretty while I’m doing it?

Also, I have to tell you about this tee from Target. It’s a Mossimo Supply Company brand Junior’s Boyfriend V Tee and I bought it in three colors and I think I might buy it in about three more. It’s not too see-through, the sleeves are longer than cap sleeves and it’s super soft.

I bought it a size up for a slightly larger fit and just in case it shrinks in the wash. I’m hoping it doesn’t, though, because right now all three are perfect the way they are. I didn’t have many plain t-shirts and I thought they would be good transition pieces as I try to take many of my professional dress pieces and tone them down a bit for my new job.

Apparently they’re also good for walking the dog!

A Sea of Green

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer · Style Imitating Art

Normally I do these Style Imitating Art posts on Monday but yesterday I was talking about all the changes I’ve got going on in my life (as well as a giveaway).

Which means that today I’m showing you how I interpreted Jen’s choice of art for this week: a serigraph from her own collection titled “Sea” by Richard Schallert.

I was immediately drawn to the greens in the print and thought it was the perfect chance to wear my green pants.

By the way, it was REALLY windy when I took these photos so I added my new hat. I picked this up for $30 at the Taste of Randolph on Saturday night. Said hat purchase may have been brought on by the two sangrias I drank but it was still a good impulse purchase.

I can’t really explain the brown shoes, though. After I saw these pictures I immediately changed into my black heeled sandals. I was trying to bring out some of the browns and tans in the print but I think these just look too clunky.

Didn’t stop me from having fun while taking the photos, though!

Life Changes and #RealBloggerBeauty

About Me

Today is the day Maya at Charmingly Styled launches her #RealBloggerBeauty project. I’ve been thinking for a month about what I wanted to write about. And in the past week I’ve had some pretty big life changes that I think fit the bill.

My initial thought was that I wanted to write about these two photos.purple_top_two_ways

The photo on the left was taken in June 2012. The photo on the right is from July 2013. The skirt on the photo on the left has since gone to the donation pile because….it’s too small.

I’ll be honest, I LOVE the way I look in that photo form 2012. I’m not a  fan of the way I look in the photo from 2013. You probably don’t see much of a difference, but I do. And it’s such a silly thing to be concerned about. I’m still in great shape (I ran 7 miles on Saturday, biked 5 and hit up three different festivals) and I know that my worth is not my skirt size. But taking photos of myself everyday for almost two years is a pretty good way to see how my body has changed.

Is it bad? No. Do I need to do something to change the way I look? No. Haterz on the internet have called me frumpy and outdated but this is who I am.  I’m a runner who strength trains. I’m a cheapskate who doesn’t spend a ton of money on clothes and who hates getting things tailored. I am who I am. Am I always happy with the way I look? Nope. But I think that makes me normal. Right?

And I’m honestly not sure I’d be able to do anything about it anyway. I mean, I mentioned some big life changes.

You may recall that we got a new puppy.

Chewie is sweet and adorable and he finally loves my husband just as much as me. But he hates being outside, he barks non-stop at anyone who comes into our apartment, and he is afraid of other dogs.

In short, he’s going to take a lot of love and training to become a secure, friendly, sociable dog. Honestly, that’s not what I wanted but it’s what I got. And as long as he loves Jason and me that’s a good start. But, it’s stressful.

Finally (and this is my big news), I’m starting a new job next Monday. A new job with a casual dress code. Would you believe I’m stressed out about what this means for Loop Looks?

I’m so excited to start a new job in a new position at a new company, but I’ve always wanted to be a blog where women who CAN’T wear jeans to work could turn for outfit ideas. And now I’ll be one of those women who CAN wear jeans every day.

I DON’T know what that means for Loop Looks just yet. I really don’t. But I hope you stick around whatever happens. Because we’re all in this together, right?

And speaking of dress codes, I’ve got a giveaway going on that those of you who read Loop Looks because of your office dress code might like!

There are puppies (and tights) in this post [GIVEAWAY]

Office Appropriate Outfits - Summer

Disclaimer: The tights I’m wearing in this post were provided courtesy of Hanes but all opinions are my own. But there’s also a giveaway! Which means you could also get free tights!

So, it’s June. And that means I would really like to be able to go bare-legged. But June in Chicago means we have our fair share of Pacific Northwest-like days. Meaning chilly and rainy. And yesterday was one of those. Which is why I’m glad Hanes sent me a pair of their new Hanes Silk Reflections Sunkissed Ultra Sheer tights.

pink-blouse-floral-skirt-1Blouse – The Limited (same) | Skirt – LOFT via Poshmark (similar) | Tights – c/o Hanes (same) | Shoes – Jessica Simpson via Poshmark (same) | Dog – our new puppy, Chewie!

Admittedly, I typically prefer my nude tights to have some texture to them so I don’t feel outdated, but I think it’s okay to wear nude hosiery again. I mean, if Princess Kate does it the rest of us can, too, right?

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by these tights. They have a really wide waistband which eliminates the whole muffin top thing a lot of other tights do. Plus, you can get them in a thong style which also cuts down on the crazy control top sausage casing feeling.

They’re also run resistant. I’ve worn this pair twice and had zero issues. And they’re nice and silky feeling. I’ve honestly always preferred Hanes Silk Reflections when buying my gray and black hosiery so it’s nice to see that these are the same silkiness, if not better!

Oh, and for the taller ladies? I always order mine a size up than the size chart says and these are SO LONG! I mean, I’m mostly legs but I’m only 5’4”. There’s plenty of leg in these to go around.

They come in colors that are supposed to mimic cosmetics. I seem to be right between two colors but that’s because I’ve already been out in the sun some this year. The pair I’m wearing right now in Light Bronze will be perfect in the dead of winter while the Nude Bronze ones would be perfect for August after my legs have gotten more sun.

So, if you’re like me and want to wear skirts even when it’s not really skirt weather, you’re in luck! Hanes Hosiery wants to give TWO readers their choice of a pair of Sunkissed tights. I’ll be picking two winners on Thursday, June 19th so enter quickly!

New Fur Addition

About Me

I want to apologize in advance. Posting is going to be a little sporadic for at least this week. Why? Because of this:

Chewie-collageMeet Chewie! After not having a dog for four years we decided it was finally time to add one back to our family.

Chewie is an 8 month old German Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He weighs about 40 pounds, loves me to death, but is super timid around almost everyone and everything else.

This is the youngest dog we’ve ever owned and getting used to a puppy is going to take some time. I’m all ears (hahah) for suggestions on the best ways to housebreak him and get him to come out of his shell.

So, yeah. Puppy trumps blogging, at least for this week. I’m sure you’ll understand!
