Welcome to day two of my participation in the Pinned It and Did It challenge. Believe it or not, today’s cobalt and gray outfit was kind of a struggle for me to put together.

Why? Here’s why.

1. I only own one pair of gray pants. Okay, technically I now own two after picking up a second pair at a clothing swap this weekend. However, both pairs are more of a bootcut or flared leg as opposed to a straight leg. And right now I’m more into wearing blazers with straight legged pants. I plan to get the pair I grabbed this weekend altered but, obviously, that wasn’t going to happen before today.

2. Which means I was really excited when the cobalt blue cardigan I ordered from the massive J. Crew sale last week arrived earlier than expected. “Yes!” I thought. “I can wear that with my gray pants!” Sadly, when I opened the package this is what I saw instead:

That is NOT cobalt blue! I immediately called J. Crew but the cobalt blue one was sold out. She offered to replace it with this one for the same price. It’s also blue but not quite as saturated. I decided to go for it but it hasn’t arrived yet.

Which is when I realized that, hey, I own a gray skirt! And since it’s actually above freezing so far this week I can wear it and not die of exposure. So that’s what I did. Obviously.

Also, I was totally going to wear my leopard print heels to echo the inspiration photo’s leopard print flats, but at the last minute I decided my zebra print shoes needed some love. They’re still animal print, though, so it totally counts.

I was wondering what color skirt you were wearing last night! It was so dark and I couldn’t figure out if it was gray or not!

I love the white top underneath, it’s very sweet!

Do you think Kim (ilaxstudio) had a hand in getting you that orange cardigan? I know she’s always trying to get you to add more orange to your wardrobe. 😉

How strange that they’d send you an orange cardigan instead of a cobalt one! I’d think if an item were sold out, they’d just give you your money back, not send you something from the complete opposite end of the color wheel.

I recently listened to a VERY interesting Radiolab podcast about the “pickers” who fulfill online order that gave me an entirely new perspective on online shopping. Basically I think that whoever filled this order grabbed the first item in the box instead of scanning to make sure it was correct.

I hope they let you keep the other cardigan at no charge, or do you have to send it back?! And I just ordered a cobalt blue blazer from Chico’s last night– they are having a crazy clearance sale on blazers- was $129, got it for $26! Have you ever tried their blazers before? They have a weird sizing system…

No, I have to return it. But, thankfully they are letting me even though it was a final sale item and technically I shouldn’t be able to. They already processed my refund so now I just need to drop it off at the store.

I’ve been in Chico’s exactly once with my MIL. And, yes, their sizing system is pretty weird. But apparently if you shop there a lot you get used to it.

Oh well at least they are flexible on that!

Yeah…I feel like Chico’s is exactly that- where mothers shop. I hope their cuts/sizing work well on me- otherwise they are going back, regardless of the good deal!
