Still staying strong and not wearing any black today. But, I admit, if the challenge was no black and no navy I would be SOL. I mean, look at yesterday and today. So much navy.

Today, though, I am also wearing colors in my scarf. In fact, in honor of today’s Trend Spin Link-Up of scarves, I thought I’d show you a fun way you could change up this entire outfit just by changing the scarf.

How to change up your outfit by changing your scarf

As you can see, the simple outfit of a white and navy base gives you lots of different scarf options. Solid colors, other florals or even leopard are all viable options.  How do you chose?

First, pick a scarf where the main color goes nicely with your base color. If your base is black or navy you’re pretty much safe with just about any color.

Next, if you want pattern on your scarf make sure that it’s of a different scale than the one on your shirt. Small stripes on the shirt mean big pattern on the scarf and vice versa.

Tie your scarf however you want and voila! You have almost as many outfits as you have scarves. Speaking of which, I have a lot of scarves.

Scarves are hands down my favorite accessory. With the exception of a major piece of statement jewelry, I don’t think anything has the ability to completely change an outfit quite like a scarf. Plus scarves are way cheaper (and take up much less space!) than a billion different tops, so you can wear the same shirt over and over again without it looking that way. Perfect!

I think you should try the no navy challenge too! LOL! :)

I am happy you like the scarf holder! I love seeing all your different scarves! It’s fun to pattern mix a shirt with a scarf :)

So here’s a silly question, if the base color of your shirt is black/navy, can you wear a scarf where the primary color is the other one (navy with black, black with navy)? Is that a rule you can break when it comes to accessories like scarves?

You can mix navy and black but I think it’s best when it’s really obvious that one is navy and one is black. It’s when the colors are so close that people wonder if you knew they were different that it looks a little odd.
