The Things I Don’t Normally Talk About

About Me

Rachel at Suburban Style Challenge recently awarded me the Liebster Award. She writes:

The Liebster Award is one given to bloggers by other bloggers. Bloggers who are awarded a Leibster are usually bloggers with smaller followings… hidden gems that us bloggers want to see grow.  If you’re given the Leibster Award, you get a series of random questions to answer, and then you pass the torch by “tagging” 5 other bloggers and asking them questions of your own.  It’s a great way for each blog’s following to grow, and a really fun way to get to know each blogger a little better.

First, thanks for thinking of me, Rachel! Now, onto the questions and my answers. Trust me. I divulge some stuff you probably didn’t know about me!

If you were a crayon, what color would you be and why?

I honestly have no idea. I feel like I should ask one of my friends who is a bit of a synesthete for her thoughts on what color she associates with me. Although, I suppose I’d like to say silver because to me it indicates intelligence and class.

New year, new you… or something. What blogging goals do you have for 2014?

I want to reach out to more bloggers and do more collaborations! Let me know if you’re interested in doing something together.  I also recently read that you should try and comment on at least 5 new blogs a week so I’m going to try and do that as well.  So, basically, my goals are to be as involved as I can in the blogging community and, as always, be as involved as possible with my readers. Speaking of which, don’t forget to submit those questions for You Pick Wednesday posts!

On a personal level, what are you looking forward to in 2014?

I’m finally taking advantage of the tuition discount I get at work and am taking a class called “Text and Image” in our New Media Studies graduate program. I’m looking forward to using my brain in ways I haven’t in years. On a related note, my husband should graduate college in June so I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to being a two income household so we can take better advantage of this awesome city we live in. I’m also planning to help a friend run her first half-marathon in addition to hopefully getting a half marathon best for myself.

If you had to get rid of all but 3 pairs of shoes from your closet, what 3 would you keep?

I’d keep my black patent pumps, my brown riding boots, and my silver boat shoes.

Although, my silver boat shoes are starting to wear out and I’ll probably need to find a suitable replacement soon!

What’s your favorite quote?

Argh! I hate this question. I never have an answer and I mull it over for way too long. So, let’s go with “Purple monkey dishwasher” and leave it at that.

What do your friends and family think about your blogging?

Considering I met almost every single person I am friends with in Chicago because of one of my blogs, I’d say my friends are pretty cool with it. My mom thought it was weird for awhile but now I think she likes it as a way to keep up to date with what I’m doing. Pretty sure the rest of my family feels the same way.

What’s one of your guilty pleasures?

Spending Friday night or an entire Saturday or Sunday in my pajamas playing World of Warcraft with my husband. Yep, I’m just that nerdy.

If you could go back in time 10 years and tell yourself one thing, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to try new things. And get yourself some damn anti-anxiety medication! Seriously. I’m a much better person now that I take meds. I don’t really talk about it much, but I used to be terrified to meet new people and try new things. I once had a panic attack going to a karaoke party where I wouldn’t know anyone but my husband! It’s still not always easy but it’s SO worth it. Also, I suppose that’s two things. But they’re related. So there.

What 3 things do you never leave the house without?

My phone, some kind of ID, and keys. Not very exciting, but totally practical.

Your boss gives you an extra week of vacation to do charity work… what do you do?

Volunteer at an animal shelter walking dogs! I used to do this in college but just haven’t had the time since then.

post-run with Trinka 001Trinka Deu, my old running buddy. I miss her.post-run with Trinka 002

Do you have a zombie apocalypse plan?

Does running to the roof of our apartment building with our .22 pistol and ammo, barricading the door, and waiting for a helicopter count?

*************

Well, that was fun! So, who am I passing this award along to?

And what questions do they get for an automatic blog post topic?

  • Tell us, when and why did you start your blog?
  • iPhone, Droid, Windows phone or something else? Why?
  • Name your top three comfort foods.
  • What’s the number one thing on your wish list right now?
  • Do you prefer to give or get gifts?

I hope you enjoyed this little trip into my life outside the fashion (and fitness) that I usually share. And be sure to take a look at the other nominated bloggers to see how they answer my questions.

Aww, what a sweet looking running partner :) You know, if you DO want to volunteer with dogs sometime, the rescue group that we adopted Jude & Meko through has adoption events around the north side every Saturday afternoon, and they always need volunteers to come and hang out with the dogs for a few hours. It’s a low-commitment, just go when you can, and you get plenty of quality dog time.

I once missed a friend’s wedding reception because of a similar panic attack. Feeling that way really does suck, so I’m glad we were both able to get past it! Big groups of new people are still hard at times, but as you may have noticed, I deflect by mocking things and making fun of myself :)

    Hello, Level 63 Warlock!

Once upon a time, just about a year ago, I was working at winter camp and one of my campers spent much of the two days at camp discussing her zombie apocalypse plan with me and asking me about mine. Unfortunately, I didn’t have one and still don’t have one…but in the case of a zombie apocalypse, I think my first action will be to find this girl so she can protect me.

I liked when you did the post showing how to wear a blazer to the office and how to wear it on the weekend. I bet we could do something like that where we each show a work look and a casual look.

I would also love to collaborate! I feel like we’ve talked about something before, but I could be wrong. Thanks for taking the time to fill this out :) Always fun to see what others have to say. Also, yes, that qualifies as a zombie apocalypse plan I think!

Ooh, I like all your honest answers; I learned a lot about you even though I’ve been reading your blog(s) for years! Is the point of commenting on five new blogs to increase traffic to/awareness of your own blog? I think I’d be a little overwhelmed feeling like I had to maintain commenting on 20 new blogs a month. I can barely keep up as it is!

I don’t necessarily think I’m going to maintain commenting on 20 new blogs. I mean, I might find some I want to keep following but some I might just visit once or twice, depending on how I feel. I know I like getting comment so I think I should comment on other blogs! Plus, when I participate in link-ups it’s common courtesy to at least visit and comment on the blogs of other participants.
