First, have you voted for your favorite outfit from October yet? I always add the winners to my Pinterest boards.

Now, on to this Chicago blogger clothing swap thing. Last month I attended a clothing swap hosted by the lovely Lindsay from The Garden Apt and the dress pictured above was one of my scores! New with tags on it and everything. Lindsay not only provided her apartment space, but she also treated us to homemade baked goods and some lovely refreshments. And thanks to the other attendees there were lots of swap items to choose from.

In attendance we had Lindsay, myself, Nicole of Cedar & Rush, Kit from The Kittchen, Lauren of Chi Gal Lauren, Ashley of Hop, Skip, Jump to the Midwest  and Laurie from 312 Beauty.

Lindsay asked each of us to bring at least 10 items that would be appropriate for fall. At first I didn’t know if I’d be able to come up with 10 items but then I looked at what  I had listed on Poshmark and decided that I would bring some of those items in addition to a few that, although adorable, didn’t really fit me the way I wanted.

Why did I decide that instead of trying to sell those items I would bring them to the swap? Because anything that didn’t end up getting a new home from one of my fellow bloggers got donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Chicago. And, really, donating items that I only would have made a few bucks off of is a better use of my closet space.

But, what you’re really asking I know is, what else came home with me from the swap? Well, you’ve already seen my bracelet and if you followed my outfit photos on Instagram or Facebook last week you also saw the other two items!

The black and white striped cardigan and the black, white, and gray silk tank top! Funnily enough, both came to Las Vegas with me and were perfect for the trip.

Lindsay’s goal is to turn this into a regular event and continue to donate our non-swapped items to charities around the city. I applaud her ingenuity and her drive to make it happen and I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Thanks to Lindsay and Lauren for photos of the swap!

Yay for such amazing clothing swap finds! That outfit looks FABULOUS. So classic and so stylish.

My friend Vanitha once hosted a swap meet where everyone could bring ANYTHING they wanted to swap. So there was quite a variety of items there to pick from – cooking utensils, DVDs, household decorations, and books in addition to clothing and jewelry. It was a blast! I really do love these types of swap events!

That’s a great idea to swap anything! We decided at this one that we should bring men’s clothes next time. One person did and I snagged a t-shirt with the tags still on for Jason.

I LOVE this idea! Did everyone end up finding a few things to take home? I was always curious about these, especially if people are different sizes, etc.

I would love to host/plan something like this– maybe one for fashion & accessories and one for the CRB for running “stuff” 🙂

Yes, everyone went home with at least one new item! We also brought purses and accessories so those fit everyone 🙂 Shoes are the hardest, though. We had a lot of them but no one was the same size!

So cool! Nothing like free shopping! That’s awesome that you all donated the leftovers as well — I get so lazy about donating old clothes (I blame my parents…we have so many bags of clothes no one wears in the basement at home), but this seems like a nice way to eliminate that “so hard” (<– sarcasm font) step of actually taking the clothes to a thrift store.

Yes! It is fun! By the way, if you haven’t joined the Chicago Blogger Network yet (assuming you’re still in Chicago) you totally should. It’s a great way to meet all these other bloggers.

Wow, that dress was a perfect find for you! I love the longer length with boots!

Clothing swaps are such a good idea – I really wish I would have looked into those further last year when I was growing out of my clothes so often!

Originally I was thinking I would get the dressed hemmed but now I’m thinking that it’s such a unique length that I’ll leave it alone.

I know another blogger went to a clothing swap at Nature Museum last year but other than that I haven’t heard a lot about them in Chicago. Too bad, too, because they’re such a great idea.
