Faux Leather Dilemma

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

Blazer – Express (similar) |  Shirt – Gap (similar) | Skirt – The Limited (similar) | Necklace – JF&A Show (similar) | Shoes – Bandolino (similar)

I’ve been dying to wear this striped blazer and faux leather skirt outfit ever since I pinned a similar inspiration photo almost a year ago. Today’s Trend Spin Link-Up theme of leather seemed like the perfect opportunity!

Unfortunately, either something happened to me or something happened to this skirt since I wore it last and I’m having a “bad texture” day. What does that mean? It means that when I put this skirt on I just couldn’t stand it. Also, the back kickpleat seems to be doing something weird. Which means that as much as I love the look of this outfit, I’m going to have to figure out what’s going on with the skirt ASAP! Because faux leather is DEFINITELY in for fall and the fact that this skirt isn’t black makes me feel like it’s easy to wear to the office. And I want to wear it!

Am I the only person who puts on a piece of clothing and then just can’t wear it because of how it feels on? Please tell me I’m not alone!

That happens to me ALL THE TIME. Pretty much the only reason I’m ever late to work is because I’m having trouble dressing myself. This is also why I let stuff sit in my “stuff to donate” pile/bag for a bit before getting rid of it … I want to give myself time to put it back in my closet if I change my mind.

Ha, whenever anything like that happens to me I usually choose to suffer through it. It’s generally tags and running clothes, though, so it’s not like I have to bother with it all day. And I think most often when anything is sitting wrong on me, eventually it works itself out (or I just stop noticing it). Your approach seems much smarter than mine, though!

Texture definitely makes or breaks an outfit for me. Give it a whirl with tights and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise I do love it and that color is fab.

Ahhh, Erin’s comment about the tights thing. Yes, that might be it. I have an on-and-off relationship with 3/4 sleeves. I like them most of the time, but sometimes they just drive me CRAZY.

And that skirt is totally on trend, I agree, and perfect for fall.

I actually have a brown leather pencil skirt and I’m having the same problem! I found it at a Clothes Mentor for a steal over the summer, and first I put it in the back of my closet to wait for fall. Fall came and went, and I couldn’t quite bring myself to wear it. I like the idea of business-ing it up with a blazer- my default idea was a black crewneck sweater with a statement necklace or a scarf, but that didn’t seem quite right with the leather…
