After a weekend of go-go-go that caused me to pass out in bed on Sunday afternoon for an epic nap I decided to take Monday off from the blog. I was already off work so there was no real reason to get dressed up. Planting flowers on our balcony and doing ALL THE LAUNDRY didn’t really warrant the adorable red, white and blue Memorial Day outfit that Two Birds chose for Inspiration Monday.

However, this outfit was so adorable that I didn’t want to pass up a chance to use it as an inspiration. Hence, today’s belated red, white, and blue ensemble!

Yes, my pants are navy blue. We’re still working on figuring out how to get that to show up consistently. Any suggestions?

I was originally going to wear them with a plain red top but at the last minute decided I liked the polka dots better. Since the pants are all one color I sort of view them as a solid.

Did you apply filters/edit either photo? Because I can see the blue more in the first photo. It probably has to do with the fact that it is taken more straight on? I also wonder about the background. Does it pop more inside? Or with a background that is homogeneous?

Jason was playing around with the camera settings in between shots trying to make the navy pop out more. I think that’s why the photos look different.

I tried to take a page out of your inspiration book yesterday. I’m going to a play on Wednesday and had NO idea what to wear (and will have no time to figure it out today or tomorrow, hence outfit planning yesterday), so I lurked around Pinterest for awhile trying to find something I could reinterpret and ended up settling on an emerald top with a black skirt that I think looks all right together. Still not 100% sure what to do on the shoe front–black peep toe heels vs. gold strappy sandals–but at least I’m 2/3rds of the way there! Anyway, moral of the story: I really like the whole using-someone-else’s-outfit-for-inspiration idea, so thanks for introducing me to it!

I actually thought these pants may be a polished denim before looking a little more closely. They look navy to me, but the lace is really subtle in these pictures compared to the last time you wore them.

Anyway. I like your red, white and blue ensemble! I never know how to pair these without looking like a big flag, so I like what you’ve done.

You look super cute! I love the nude heels with the cropped pants – really chic and your legs look miles long. Btw – I am still waiting to see pictures of your new tattoo!!!

The joy of nude shoes 🙂 My secret to looking like I’m taller than I am.

I put a pic of my tattoo on Facebook. The tattoo is on my back so I haven’t put a picture of it on the blog.

Navy can be really tricky to photograph, the only luck I’ve ever had was photographing it in a med-level light, or with a high ISO in the shade. (Bright light seems to just bleach the color out, but darker lighting just flattens it.) I just love the lace though, the texture is really cool looking in the color up pictures!

And so okay to take a day off, you’re really dedicated to blogging on a regular schedule and then you’ve got a job and a busy life to boot, you’re warranted a break! (Hah, I take breaks whenever I feel like it, but I’m a lazy blogger and therefore no one should take any advice from me.)
