Ever have one of those days when an outfit looks better in your head than it does when you put it on? Yep, that was today. I wanted to participate in today’s Pantone link-up with The Modern Austen and wear something linen colored but my outfit just wasn’t doing it for me. Original plan? This top, untucked, with a linen (or oatmeal, as I prefer to refer to it) colored boyfriend cardigan and the brown pants. But the untucked top and the long cardigan just weren’t doing it for me. So, I tucked in the top. Nope, that just looked weird. So I swapped out the cardigan for the navy one. Better, but not great.

As a last resort I buttoned up the cardigan leaving the tie on the neck of the blouse sticking out. But now I just look lumpy.  Sigh. Win some, lose some.  This will definitely not be one of my favorite outfits of the month.

Speaking of which, Kelsey suggested that I start doing recaps of my outfits each month and tell which ones are my favorite. Since I’m not in the office tomorrow I will be sharing that information with you! The best part, you get to vote on YOUR favorite outfit from April! So, if you’re stopping by from Work Your Wardrobe or the Pantone link-up, I hope you stick around and share your opinion.

I didn’t even know linen was a color. Haha. I think when I hear “linen” I think “fabric” (or, perhaps, sheets), not color.

For what it’s worth, at least you look somewhat springy with the light top but are still warm enough for our suddenly-back-to-mid-April-even-though-it’s-now-May temperatures today!

Toooooooooooootally been there before. Oh man. And sometimes (the worst) I don’t even realize how bad it looks until I see photos. Like my mirror lies. LIES!!

    Um yea… anyway…

I really like that top, though. I can’t wait to see how else you style it.

I like this outfit, but I completely feel ya on things looking better in your head. That’s how I felt about my “lemon zest” outfit from yesterday (although with as frumpy as I felt today, yesterday seems amazing lol).

The benefit to trying new things, though, is that you learn what works and what doesn’t work for you. At least that’s what I’m telling myself 🙂

Yep, been there. I can see that top loosely tucked into some linen-colored, wide-leg trousers (I know the very pair, as I have them from The Limited!), maybe with a navy skinny belt. That top is fab, so I’m excited to see you wear it in different ways 🙂

I need to work on figuring out how to tuck it in. I felt so short-torsoed when I did it with these pants even though I’ve tucked things into these pants before and felt fine. Don’t know what was up with that!

Ha ha, like Bethany, I didn’t know “linen” was a cool. But! I saw this outfit in person and liked it. I liked the hint of the shirt underneath the sweater. And it was good to wear this since it was cold yesterday 🙂

I still think you look great, but I know what you mean about things working out better in my head. I didn’t even take pictures of a lot of “outfit fails” because I didn’t want to post them! You look really professional and put-together here, though! Thanks for linking up 🙂

This was a fun challenge! I’m a little bummed I didn’t get the chance to participate all five days but the ones I did do were fun. Thanks for hosting it!

Ooh, I am excited to see what outfits are your favorites! It would be fun to have your readers vote for their favorites, too!

This happens to me all of the time. 😛 I hate those days.

I do think those long cardigans can be tricky, I haven’t quite figured out why they work sometimes and why they don’t other times. Your top looks really pretty with the bow and it looks like it really works with the pants, maybe it’s just the longer length of the cardigan that makes it not work as well with the bootcut trousers? I’m not sure, but the top is really pretty looking and I love the linen color with the brown pants, its a very clean, chic color pairing.
