Welcome to the first day of the Mutually Inspired Series where Jen from Librarian for Life & Style and I use outfits one another has posted in the past to create new outfits for this week!

My outfit today comes courtesy of Jen’s post “Purple suede and pattern-mixing” where she paired an argyle sweater with a pinstriped button-up, jeans, and suede shoes.  Since I’m working from home today I got to wear jeans, too!

Here’s the amazing thing: everything I’m wearing today I’ve had for YEARS. Seriously, this shirt is older than my college best friend’s marriage. I know because there’s a picture of me wearing it the day she got engaged.

Same shirt, back in the day

Just goes to show you that there are certain items and patterns that just never go out of style. Are they trendy? Nope. Just classic. Argyle sweaters and striped oxford shirts and two of those patterns.

Now, don’t forget to head over to Jen’s blog to see which of my outfits inspired her today!

P.S. Full disclosure: I took all my outfit photos on Sunday since it is supposed to rain all week in Chicago. My rain boots will be getting a workout this week. But I promise I really am wearing these outfits this week!!

I love the red shoes with this outfit! An unexpected pop of color that totally works.

And I really need to learn to hang on to staples like you do. I’m always impressed that your clothes last so long!

I’m not sure what the key is to keeping them around so long. Especially since I take so many things to the dry cleaner! Or maybe that is the secret…

This is such a fun idea for a week of posts!

And awesome that you have had this sweater for so long. Maybe I should get one? <— how many times do I write that here then tell you no, I need nothing new? #brokenrecord #stfukim

When I was looking for similar sweater vests to link to I couldn’t really find any! Apparently this style is not really “in” right now. Too bad, I’m wearing it anyway!

I love how this outfit looks nice while still looking casual. I think the untucked shirt really keeps it from being too stuffy, if you will. I also LOVE what your shoes do for the whole thing. I like the color contrast with the subtler colors in your sweater, plus it incorporates the red from Jen’s sweater. Perfect!

I really like this look, Erin! I am a sucker for argyle 🙂 I am also completely in love with your jeans! They look amazing on you!!! (And your hair has been looking sooo good. I’m jealous of the curls!!)

Of course I make an appointment to get my hair cut right when it starts to look good, huh? 🙂 Hopefully cutting off an inch or two will just lead to even better curls!

wow, that is a well made sweater to have lasted this long! Argyle is such a classic and I love how perfectly this works with your striped shirt, they look like they were made to go together. (I also love this challenge, it’s so fun and creative and I can’t wait to see the rest of your looks this week.)

Ugh, good luck with all of the rain!

The sweater does have a small discolored stain spot on the back but I figure no one will notice 🙂 I can’t bring myself to get rid of it since it still fits!
