As I’ve mentioned before, casual Friday is my nemesis. I want to wear jeans but I still want to look professional.  So what do I do? I default to a blazer! Seriously, I bet if you look through most of my posts on Fridays you’d find that I’m wearing some version of this. So, in an attempt to spice up today’s 5 Days, 5 Ways post, I’m going to give you 5 random facts about me (thanks to Valerie)  to go along with five of my other blazers.  Let’s get started.

Random Fact #1 – I am horribly allergic to cats but didn’t develop the allergy until I was in high school. Now, cats make me sneeze and my eyes itch, but they also cause my lungs to feel tight and, in severe cases, my throat to close up. I have been known to steal hits off my husband’s asthma inhaler when visiting people who have cats. I am, however, not allergic to dogs which is good because I LOVE dogs.

Random Fact #2 – The instant my fingernails grow more than a centimeter past the tip of my fingers I unconsciously bite them off. Yes, I’m a nail-biter and a cuticle-gnawer. I have tried to stop many times, even getting acrylic nails to see if that helped. Nope. I am the only person I know who chewed off her acrylic nails.

Random Fact #3 – I have run 3 marathons (my fourth will be at the end of April), twelve half-marathons, and I’ve lost count of how many other races of other distances I’ve done. Although if I wanted to I could count them up because I scrapbook all of my races. But that’s the only thing I scrapbook. And I’m over a year behind…

Random Fact #4 –  I don’t drink coffee or caffeinated soda and gave it up my freshman year of college. I will drink caffeinated tea but only one cup a day.  When I was in college I worked at the campus police station (random bonus fact!) and the officers and dispatchers couldn’t believe I gave up caffeine as a college student.

Random Fact #5 – I have not seen a lot of tv shows since I don’t watch much tv  but my brain is a sponge and soaks up random pop culture references. So even though I haven’t seen most of the shows, I can usually fake it in a conversation.  We also don’t currently watch tv other than Netflix (and Mythbusters, gotta watch Mythbusters) so I’m always several seasons, if not several years, behind. I prefer police procedurals (NCIS, Bones) and dramas about the supernatural (X-Files, Supernatural, Medium, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). I dislike sitcoms and reality tv. And when a show goes on hiatus for the summer (or longer)? I apt to forget about it entirely!

YAY! Thanks for linking to my blog 🙂
    Ok I have to say…
1- I love your pink blazer looks, being that I am a pink freak.
2- I don’t bite my nails, but I definitely pick at them…and I don’t like them long. At all. I just can’t take it!
3- I’d love to see your race scrapbooks sometime- that is so cool! (Perhaps when we have our self-hosting shindig!)
4- I totally admire you for passing on the caffeinated coffee/pop. I call it pop…everyone else seems to call it soda around here. What gives?!
5- My husband and I love Mythbusters! What a cool job..just sitting around and doing fun experiments and blowing things up!

I searched and searched and searched for the perfect affordable pink blazer! This one is a tad bit too small but I don’t care because it still looks awesome!

And, yes, I will try to remember to bring my race scrapbooks to our meeting!

My grandma always referred to pop/soda as sodie pop. Best of both worlds.

All these blazer looks might inspire me to finally get a blazer I’d like to wear. I currently only own a few and I’ve only worn them for job interviews. I love that pink blazer!

I just love that pink blazer. I agree that blazers are a great way to make Friday jeans-day still seem professional. I own blazers in about six different colors and still look at more of them anytime I go shopping! They are incredibly versatile.

On a semi-random note, do you have any thoughts on how to wear a scarf AND a necklace at the same time? I’ve seen a few people, including you, pull it off and it looks great – but when I try to do it I’m worried it looks like a mistake!

    1. Erin @ Loop Looks Post author

I remember a day when you didn’t really know what to wear with your blazers 🙂

I think the key to wearing a scarf and a necklace is to make sure they aren’t the same length. If you wear a long necklace, tie the scarf so that it’s shorter. If you wear a short necklace, wear the scarf longer.

I LOVE the heels you’re wearing with today’s outfit! I read an article yesterday (in the RedEye? Maybe? I’m not sure) about how long-term use of heels totally ruins your feet (how surprising! Haha), and the article suggested wearing round or square toe shoes instead of pointed toe shoes…but man, I think pointed toe heels look so much better than a round toe. Maybe not to wear every day, I guess, for the sake of your feet, but who wants to wear heels every day anyway? Or am I the only one who feels that way? 😛

I know, I know, heels are super bad for us. But, they just make outfits look so much more sophisticated! Darn society for putting that thought in my head. I do try to wear flats on the weekends and at least once a week at work. Hopefully that counts for something!

I was at dinner with coworkers on Wednesday evening and someone started talking about that show “Duck Dynasty”. I’ve never seen it but I was still able to carry on my part of the conversation just because of all the random stuff I’ve retained from seeing references online!

When I read this post, I said “Me too!” to every one of your facts. (Well, at least to some degree. I haven’t run three marathons, and my cat allergy isn’t as severe.) Hmmm, this must be why we’re friends!

On the rare occasion that I watch “What Not to Wear,” I always like the advice that a blazer makes an outfit more professional and helps define your waist. I see them a lot on LoopLooks, but every time, I think the outfit looks new and exciting!

  6. Brynn

You manage to look so cute AND professional in your casual Friday outfits! I’m loving the outfits with the tan blazer. I liked reading your facts, too! It’s always so much fun to read more about some of my favorite bloggers and get to know them a little bit better 🙂

My husband and I were just talking about how we are always late to the party with TV shows since we NEVER watch TV live (no time!!). We pretty much only watch them on Netflix, and are always several seasons behind. Unlike you, though, we’re really into comedies (Parks and Rec, Arrested Development, Modern Family), although I love shows like LOST and Firefly, too.

I’m in awe of all of the blazers you own! I have two different black ones, and they barely get worn. I usually go with a cardigan, because they’re more comfortable. I should branch out.

I have the same problem with my nails. I’ve never had fake ones to bite off (okay, maybe some Lee press-ons in junior high or so), but my nails/cuticles are usually a mess. Sigh. And what made you decide to stop drinking pop/coffee? Especially so young?!

    1. Erin @ Loop Looks Post author

I used to feel the same away about cardigans vs blazers. The key was finding blazers that actually fit me. I started with ones that were more knit and was slowly able to transition to more structured ones.

I never liked coffee so giving that up was easy. I was having some GI issues and my doc suggested I try giving up caffeine. I just went cold turkey and immediately felt 100% better. That was enough for me to not drink it again!

It is funny that you stopped using caffeine (in drinks) in college since that is when most people start with coffee! I stopped using it in spring of 2009 and don’t EVER EVER miss it. LOL. Of course, I get it in chocolate and tea, too. So I guess I can’t say I don’t use it. lol

    1. Erin @ Loop Looks Post author

Now that I drink one cup of caffeinated tea most days I guess I can’t say I don’t drink caffeine at all any more. But, one cup of tea is still my limit! And even then there are days that my system doesn’t appreciate it.

I love camel and leopard together, its such a classic color pairing. (I don’t know why I always forget about it.) The five facts are really fun, I totally understand about the nail biting. I use to be really bad about it and Id bit mine until they’d bleed. I started putting pepper on my nails and it really helped me stop but every now and then I fall back into it. 😛
