Glasses Over The Years

Did you know that I actually wear contacts? Ever wonder why I never wear my eyeglasses? Well, I’ve worn them once before on the blog back before I actually had any readers! So, for all intents and purposes, you guys have never seen them before. In fact, the reason I very rarely wear them outside of the house is because for years I had trouble finding any that fit my small face and head and I think have some form of Post-High School Stress Disorder about looking ridiculous in photos while wearing my ridiculously huge glasses.

As I mentioned, I have a very small head and face.  So small, in fact, that past hairdressers have even commented on how tiny my head is! Which makes it difficult to order glasses without trying them on.  Thankfully I also wear contacts so I can at least see myself when I’m trying on glasses.  But for years the style in the glasses’ world seemed to be that they were huge. In fact, my last pair of glasses before my current ones were Nintendo brand! Yes, they were kid’s glasses.

Thankfully glasses have gotten smaller over the years and now I can finally buy my glasses in the adult section of the store.  Still, it also means I’ve never tried to order glasses online since I’m terrified they’ll still be huge on my face.

Which is why I think the Virtual Mirror from GlassesUSA.com is a great idea!  It lets you upload a picture of yourself and then “try on” different pairs of glasses.

What to try it out yourself? You can even save your favorites and then send the pictures to your friends for their opinion right from the website!

So, the next time you need prescription eyeglasses or just want to see what you think you’d look like in certain frames (or just need to kill some time at work) why not check out this website.  You can also get  15% off + get free shipping on any order over $50 using code FS15 or 10% off any order of prescription glasses using code Blog10.  The prices are actually reasonable and I love that you can share the photos with friends to get their opinions!

Do you wear glasses?

It’s no secret that I love glasses. And I have the opposite problem as you-I have a big ole head. Sometimes it cracks me up when I look at pictures we’re in together because our heads are just so…opposite…

I really like your glasses! And trying them on online is such a cool idea. But I just bought a new pair in January, so I’ll have to remember that idea next time I’m in the market for a new pair. In several years.

I just have to wear glasses when I’m reading and using the computer. I have otherwise almost perfect vision, but like a lot of people, using a computer daily for work for the past decade is causing serious strain. But since I didn’t grow up having to wear glasses, I don’t mind them. But I do notice most people I know who had to wear them as a kid generally hate wearing them now.

On another note, I love your outfit above!

Thanks! I was terrified to buy new ones but thankfully the ladies at the place where I went were great at helping me pick them out. Getting a second opinion (either in person or virtual) is vital for me!

I really like your current frames.
I wear glasses and I love them! I usually purchase my glasses from online venders (though I’ve never heard of this one but am going to check it out) and I love that you can get glasses for great prices! It allows me to treat them as accessories. I somewhat recently bought a pair of cat-eyed glasses that I love.
I might not have the same issues with glasses because I didn’t start wearing them until I was 18 and got contacts almost immediately. I got too lazy to wear contacts and started wearing glasses exclusively in about 2006 and haven’t looked back yet.

I started wearing glasses in junior high and only wore them for a few years before I switched to contacts. Although, probably anything that you start doing in junior high is going to scar you for life! That’s a good point about getting them later in life and not caring as much!

I’ve been wearing glasses since second grade, and I can relate on the school photo stress disorder. My fourth grade school picture, complete with oversized glasses and a comically gigantic mouth courtesy of orthodontia designed to stretch my teeth as far as they could go, is quite the sight to behold. I was super self-concious about how I looked in glasses, so once I got contacts in sixth grade my glasses became strictly for emergency or immediately before bed use only. I have a really hard time finding glasses that both fit my face and my style well (which is probably why I’m still wearing the same frames I’ve had since high school!). The concept of trying them on online is definitely intriguing if I’m ever in the market for some new frames!

I think I got those Nintendo glasses when I finished college and then didn’t get my current ones until about two years ago. They’ve never been something I’ve wanted to spend money on!

I have a small head, too! I just had to get new glasses and couldn’t find anything that I really liked in the adult section, so then I ended up picking out a nice pair from the kid section. I did not go for the frames with the cutesy pink flowers, though. 🙂

Ah! I can relate with the whole small head thing! I can actually fit into hats made for babies. Embarrassing. I’ve worn glasses since I was seven years old, and while I love picking out new glasses, I have the worst time finding a pair that fits my itty bitty head! You’re brave choosing a pair online 🙂 (PS. I’ve also had a pair from the children’s section!!)

I do wear glasses but after finally finding frames I liked, I usually just have the prescription changed out every few years (it took me about 4 years to update them last year). I like the idea of uploading a picture though!

I love that all of us are so bad about getting our glasses updated. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pair of glasses (until this current pair) that I liked enough to just swap out the lenses!

First off, I would have never said you had a smaller-than-average head. And second, I haven’t ever tried to order glasses, let alone sunglasses online. Choosing a flattering shape is so tricky. I was told to get glasses for university because of eye strain (my eyes focus different), and have only picked out new frames twice in 11 years (this includes the orginal pair!).

Dude, you are adorable in your yearbook photos! (And hey, aren’t big frames cool now?) That’s pretty nice that you’re able to virtually try on the glasses, so much nicer than just guessing and hoping a pair looks good on when you get them.
