Chicago Lumberjack

Originally I had on a gray crewneck sweater over the top of my plaid shirt. You know, to tone down the lumberjack look a bit. But then a part of me liked the juxtaposition of the more casual plaid shirt with the professional pencil skirt and necklace bling. Although, for those of you who don’t like in-your-face plaid then perhaps you would have preferred it with the sweater!
Either way, it’s supposed to snow up a storm here (yay for March? Definitely in like a lion) so this outfit will be worn with snow boots during my commute for sure. Plaid and snow boots. Totally lumberjack inspired.
Thoughts on plaid? Love it or hate it?

Right now I’m pretty happy with my closet. But even so there are days when I stand there and stare at all the hangers and think, “I wish I had….”
I’ve had all of these clothing pieces in my closet for a long time. I keep wavering on whether or not to keep the cardigan and then it keeps staying.
Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.

Lumberjack or hipster? That’s always the question on my mind.
Either way, I’m feeling the lumberjack and/or hipster.
Didn’t you tell me you used to wear plaid all the time?
I definitely see Kelsey’s point, but I also really love plaid! There must be a third group of people who just love plaid in a non-ironic, non-chopping down trees way, right?
I’ve worn variations of this outfit to work a few times, though I do usually tone the plaid down with a cardigan (mostly because my office is really cold!).
I honestly never think of “hipster”. Although, I’m pretty sure that hipsters wouldn’t be pairing their plaid with pencil skirts, would they?
Love the top – I like that plaid color and pattern. So versatile.
Thanks!
I don’t think you look very hipster…not with that skirt, at least. I like the contrast! Very unique.
And happy snow day to you, you lucky duck! Not that I really have any reason to complain, since it’s not like I drive anyway and don’t really *need* to leave work early…but it’d be nice!
Hahah, I don’t drive to work either so it seems silly for me to get out early. But, hey, I’m not going to look a gift snow day in the mouth!
I like plaid and have been searching for the perfect plaid shirt. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable wearing it to work though. Maybe I’d need the sweater approach. I love that necklace and the recreational photographer in me likes the reflection in the earrings.
Also, I bought those gray shoes you linked to a few months ago and finally wore them a few times. I get compliments on them whenever I do!
The earring photo is pretty cool, isn’t it? Maybe I should have my husband use that idea for one of his photography class assignments.
Glad those shoes get you compliments!
Totally dig this look! I love plaid shirts and pencil skirts–a great mix of casual and dressy–and really like the necklace under the collar and the grey heels.
Thanks! I could totally see you doing a version of this.
Fun! I am still not sure how I feel about plaid. I should try it on, I guess! I haven’t worn it in a few years.
I think the key difference is that this shirt is cut more like a regular button-down as opposed to those oversized ones we wore back in the 90s.
I love plaid! (Obviously, as evidenced by the prominence of plaid featured on my style blog.) I also am married to a man with direct Scottish clan ties, so we wear that tartan plaid proudly!
I love it when you wear your tartan plaid outfits!
I love plaid, it’s fun to wear a pattern that doesn’t feel as cutesy as floral patterns can. (Plus, I really like it with the little bit of the sparkle.) I saw on the news that you guys were suppose to get a really large storm down there, I hope all goes well for you!
I don’t love floral patterns so I guess it’s good that I like plaid!
The newspaper says we got about 9 inches of snow but, really, it wasn’t that bad. It helps that I live in an apartment building so I don’t have to shovel anymore
LOVE this look!
Thanks! I also realized after the fact that I have indeed paired plaid and pencil skirts together before. I guess that’s what happens when you own multiple plaid shirts and multiple pencil skirts!
