Blue at the Zoo

Blazer – So old I don’t remember (similar under $30) | Turtleneck – The Limited (similar under $30) | Jeans – Express | Boots – DSW (similar) | Necklace – NY&Co (similar) | Bracelet – gift (similar)
Actually, I don’t have zoo photos for you. Sorry to disappoint! We ended up having to skedaddle out of the zoo to catch our bus and I felt awkward asking my coworker to hang around longer while I took photos of myself. He doesn’t know about this here blog.
Anyway! On to the outfit. You may be wondering what’s up with the random blue necklace. Well, I originally saw this combo of tan, black, and leopard with a blue purse and thought it was something I could recreate. I don’t own a blue purse so instead I went with blue jewelry. Sadly, the weather is not conducive to leopard print ballet flats today so brown riding boots it is.
You know what’s also not working today? My brain. It’s been one heck of a week at work and I’ve been getting up early to get in my training for the Illinois Marathon. This will be my fourth marathon but the training never gets easier. Which is why days like today I love that I’ve saved so many outfit ideas on Pinterest. Makes getting dressed so much easier.

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

That necklace is great- really pops on the outfit! I have the same one in turquoise
PS- thanks for your email- I hope to get back to you this weekend! Work is crazy for me too…ahh the life
If I hadn’t seen that photo I probably would have put a gold necklace with this outfit. This is why I love Pinterest and Polyvore!
I really like that necklace with that outfit! I think it adds a nice touch of color to a mostly neutral outfit. Jealous that you got to go to the zoo for work!
Well, we didn’t really get to spend any time in the actual zoo. Just touring Cafe Brauer for an event we’re doing at the end of April. But I’d never been in there before so that was a fun adventure!
Infact I love that blue!! It kind of makes ur turtleneck look navy instead of black in the first pic
You look cute in the last pic..wherz the hat from??.. sorry- but thats the one thing u haven’t mentioned and I happen to like it!! lol
In other news, i am SOO over snow but i guess another month needs to speed by before the warm-up.. ah well:)
I actually bought my hat in a boutique in Sausalito, California! I get so many compliments on it and I wish I could find more like it so I could point people in that direction.
Your hat is adorable!! I’m in love.
Thanks! Crazy to think I found the perfect winter hat in California!
Quite a classic foundation (skinny jeans + boots + tan blazer) with fun accessories! I really need to invest in statement necklaces
I kind of went crazy in the past year. I used to feel so self conscious about wearing “big” jewelry but now I feel strange when I wear the opposite!
I love this bib necklace!

Thanks!
I like this casual chic outfit! Are you going to promise to get us a zoo shot someday?
I’ll try! Maybe this summer.
I love your necklace! What a nice addition to your outfit!!
Thanks!
wow, good luck with training for your marathon! I’m going to have to go read your running blog so I can see what your training is, most of my friends run races and they always like “oh, I’m just going to go for a 16 mile run tonight” and I’m always think sure, sure, JUST 16 miles, I’ll try to eek out 4.
Hah, good luck anyways, that’s pretty cool that you’re going on to your forth! I really like the blue necklace, I like the little bit of color with all of the neutrals and there’s that pair of gorgeous boots again!
Hahaha! I can usually pull a 8 miles out of nowhere but anything longer than that I need to train up to by slowly increasing my longest run by half a mile to a mile.
