Jacket – Old Navy via Threadflip (similar) | Shirt – LOFT (similar on sale!) | Jeans – Express via Poshmark (use code HBAMM for $5 credit) | Scarf – H&M via Poshmark (similar) | Shoes – Sole Society (on sale!)

So many things to talk about today!  Like, mixing polka dots and stripes!  It happens to be one of my favorite pattern mixing options.  Or how about the fact that three of the items I have on today are technically thrifted?  I’ll be honest, thrift stores overwhelm me but Poshmark and Threadflip are so much easier for me to deal with.  Online thrift shopping?  Much more my speed.

And we need to mention that not only is today the last day I’m doing the Take One and Pass It On Challenge it’s also Copycat Friday.  Which means I had to find a look to copy that also incorporated one of my items from yesterday.  Those of you who guessed the scarf were totally right!

Anyway, now that I have this jacket in my closet I realized I could finally recreate an outfit I’ve had pinned for almost 9 months.

Again, it’s the polka dots plus stripes that drew me to this outfit.  My jacket is a little bit more like a blazer, though, so I figured that with my nude flats it made a decent casual Friday outfit.  Don’t have a olive colored or military-esque jacket or blazer?  Try it with a similarly-colored cardigan.  Don’t like to wear stripes?  Any patterned black and white top would do.  Add riding boots and you have a great casual weekend outfit!

With that, I’ve reached the end of my participation in the Take One and Pass It On Challenge.

I loved showing you how you can remix the pieces in your closet and pair them with other items to make completely different outfits.  I was worried that people would notice I was wearing the same things two days in a row but so far the only comment I’ve gotten was someone referred to my statement necklace yesterday when I was talking about putting together an outfit for an Oscar’s party on Sunday.  “You should wear that necklace you wore this week!” she said.  That was it.

Anyway, it was a good exercise in mixing up my closet.  And gave me hope that if I do a 30×30 challenge I will do just fine!

I love this! I have an olive military style jacket (Loft) that I haven’t worn much. I just bought a black/white striped shirt similar to the one you are wearing. Basically I could recreate this look with the exception of the polka dot scarf!
I enjoyed following along during this challenge. I think the 30×30 challenge would be fun to see as well.

Do you have a fun necklace you could wear instead of the scarf? That would look awesome!

I want to try polka dots with stripes! Too bad we won’t have time to dig through my closet on Sunday ;)

I thought this pass it on challenge was really cool! When do you plan to do 30×30?

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 22, 2013 at 2:01 pm #

I’ve made the mistake of over-scheduling myself this weekend. Sigh.

Anyway, I need LOTS of time to plan for the 30×30 so I won’t be doing it until maybe April? I don’t even know.

Love the outfit today! Mixing the patterns is a great look especially when they are the same colors! I think I need to add a polka dot scarf to my wardrobe…then I would have a grand total of 2 polka dot items in my closet! :-) And I would LOVE to see you do a 30×30 challenge..you would rock it! (I’m thinking of doing one too!)

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 22, 2013 at 2:02 pm #

I decided after I pinned about 4 different looks with a black and white polka dot scarf that I needed to add one to my closet. I ended up swapping a jacket I didn’t like for this one via Poshmark. Love that app.

P.S. When are you thinking about doing your 30×30 series?

      • Valerie February 22, 2013 at 2:08 pm #

Good question! I’m thinking in the spring (after our cruise…) Now that I think of it, it’d be fun to do a winter vs summer 30 for 30 though! But one at a time I suppose :-)

How cute do you look in that pic? Ugh I love it!

And I LOVE polka dots and stripes together too!

AND I’m super jelly you’re going to an oscar party! How glamorous!

What a fantastic casual Friday look! This kind of combo is right up my alley… I think I will be continuing the cycle of inspirational style with this one! :)

I think the key to wearing the same thing two days in a row is to make sure it’s a subtle thing, which you did well with this. I have a tendency to wear the same shoes (and, um, sometimes pants…) to work every single day for a week (because I’m lazy and have no shame, apparently), and I’d be pretty surprised if anyone noticed, since both of those items spend most of their time under my desk. If I wore the same shirt every day, however, I think people would begin to pick up on that haha.

Also, A+ job on recreating that outfit. You did awesome! Swapping the sandals for flats was probably a great call, especially on a snowy day like today ;)

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 22, 2013 at 2:04 pm #

Oh yeah. Those flats got carried to work in a bag. The big ol’ snowboots were definitely necessary.

Shirts definitely need to be layered in order to wear them more than once!

I love the idea of the take one and pass it on challenge. Super fun to see how you transitioned items.

And this outfit? This pattern mixing? Yep, I’m pinning it to one of my style inspiration boards..I love it!

Such a great challenge! And you managed to pull it off so stylishly (no surprise). Now I’m pinning you stripped/polka dot look and can’t wait to recreate it myself.

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 22, 2013 at 2:05 pm #

Fun! I’m glad so many of you are loving this outfit enough to want to recreate it yourself. Even if I can’t take credit for the original.

I’ve been eyeing those shoes at Sole Society, and now that they’re on sale I just may have to get them! I love the pattern mixing in your outfit, so cute!

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 25, 2013 at 10:10 am #

Get them quick! They were almost sold out last time I checked.

  13. Inge February 23, 2013 at 11:02 am #

Love the scarf, and seriously if I keep seeing these cute shoes on your blog, I am just going to have to buy them (I’ve been online stalking them on sole soceity for a while but keeping my resolve haha)

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 25, 2013 at 10:10 am #

They were almost sold out last time I checked so I hope you get them!

  14. Lauren February 23, 2013 at 12:18 pm #

    I’d participate in a 30×30 with you!!

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 25, 2013 at 10:11 am #

Fun! I’m still working on the “when” but I’ll let you know!

  15. Katie of Alaskan Weredork February 24, 2013 at 2:52 pm #

Um, sorry, I got distracted by the sweet ride behind you. ;)

I think these flats have to be the best pair of shoes ever, I love every single thing about them and I love how versatile you’ve proven them to be. They go equally well with office of casual outfits! I think I’ll have to go check out sole society now.
Any outfit with a utility or military inspired jacket is always a win for me, but I really enjoy the striped shirt under it, it’s a really cute and stylish pairing.

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 25, 2013 at 10:13 am #

Hahaha, we were looking for something colorful in the garage. What could be more colorful than an orange Camaro?

Cute. I love this! May have to copy it! :)
