Busy from Top to Bottom

For everyone who guessed the necklace in yesterday’s post as my Take One and Pass It On item, you win! Not sure what you win. Bragging rights, maybe? Anyway, yes, I chose to wear the necklace again. It’s such a statement piece so I wanted to show how it could be toned down a bit.
However, the rest of my outfit just isn’t working for me. I think I just prefer to wear black shoes when I wear black tights. The shoes are just jarring to my eyes. I think there’s just a big too much going on in this outfit for me. Thoughts?
Also, what do you think I’ll be wearing from today’s outfit tomorrow?

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

I think I should win the necklace for guessing right…
Dang it! I should have thought of pairing a giveaway of similar items for each day.
I like your look today but think maybe the skirt and shoes are what doesn’t work as well? I have no fashion skills but actually like the leopard shoes with the black tights.
Also, I think you’ll be wearing those shoes again tomorrow.
Yeah, I’m not sure what’s off about it either. Just…something. I’ll have to play around with this some more.
Love the color combinations.
Did you take this photo at UIC’s campus?
Yes ma’am
I scout photo locations while I’m running!
Love the outfit, you look great, but I think I would go with the black shoes also
I like my feet to be streamlined
Agreed that I would have gone for black shoes today. Love the skirt, though! It’s got a bit of an edge to it and makes you look like you could leave the office and go directly to a party without stopping go and without collecting $200. =)
Yeah, the more I look at it the more I think black would have been better. I think I’ll revisit this outfit when I don’t have to wear tights to ward off frost bite.
Erin,
What would happen if you untucked the shirt and possibly tied it in the front in a droopy knot?
It would certainly help with my short torso issue! Not sure it would look as professional as I like, but considering I’m wearing a faux leather skirt to the office I could probably get away with it. Thanks for the idea!
Hmmm… I keep wanting to put a black blazer on top of it all. I can see the shoes working with an all-black look, so the focus would be (rightly) on the shoes. I think they do pull a bit of focus as is.
For your remixing item for tomorrow… I’ll go with the chambray shirt. I like the idea of guessing — I should have done that with my TOPIO run last week!
Oooh, a black blazer would look nice! Definitely going to try that!
Hmm, I really don’t think there is too much going on! I like it!
I think maybe I don’t like how high the skirt is hitting me on my torso/waist. I originally wanted to pair this with a black sweater over the chambray shirt but I only have black cardigans and they didn’t look right!
I think this is my all time favorite look of yours. (I know, I say that every week, but this looks is killer.) I really love the color of this leather skirt with the denim shirt, it’s just a perfect match and the leopard print adds the perfect amount of sass to the look.
