So, today is Valentine’s Day. Are you celebrating it in any way? My big plan for the day is to go to work, come home, go to the gym, and then make Italian Wedding Soup for dinner. However, on Friday evening my husband and I are going to a trapeze class!
As you can probably tell, we’re not big into a romantic, mushy Valentine’s Day display over here. I still like to wear a little something to acknowledge the holiday, though. Last year I wore pink. This year I decided on red. But by pairing it with navy and gray it keeps it from screaming “I’m dressed up for the holiday!”
This could be a very blah outfit. Just a cardigan, a pencil skirt, and a blouse. But the pattern on the blouse amps it up a little bit. Keep that mind when you’re shopping or getting dressed. A little bit of pattern can go a long way.
You know what else goes a long way? Wind. It was SO WINDY when I was taking these photos. My husband caught my frustration with the wind on camera.

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

too bad there wasn’t an upskirt pic from all the wind!
I own that skirt and that cardigan I could totes recreate this!
The skirt and cardigan would go with just about any printed top!
Awww! I really like this one! Especially since this tends to be my uniform – skirt, top, cardi.
I’m excited about your class tomorrow! I am not sure if we have anything going on for VDay. Steven is still quite sick
You looked very cute yesterday in your uniform
I hope Steven starts to feel better soon. I wonder where he picked up that virus.
Thanks!
Probably from me, since I had a cold last week. Oops?
Trapeze class?? How cool! I’m not much of an adrenaline junkie so I don’t know if it’d be my cup of tea, but it sounds like such a fun experience!
I’ve worn the exact same outfit for the past three Valentine’s Days (well, almost exact same: last year and this year I wore a scarf. Year #1 I wore a necklace). I wish I were kidding.
I loved zip-lining and wasn’t scared so I’m hoping that trapeze will be similar. I mean, I’ll be in a harness and there will be a net so how bad could it be?
There’s a trapeze class somewhere? Please share how it goes, I’m so intrigued by this!
And I love the red polka dots in this look too! I’m just working from home today, but maybe I’ll get festive and wear a pink shirt to the gym
Yep! I got it as a Living Social deal but here’s the school’s website.
Trapeze class! That sounds awesome
I am wearing purple today since I figured that was still somewhat in the “Valentines color” family. Wanted to wear a pink-ish top but it required ironing and there was no time for that this morning!
Ah! I hate it when the thing I want to wear needs to be ironed or dry cleaned.
I love the patterned blouse!! Super super cute! And this reminds me of my own fight with the wind caught on camera: http://www.workclothesisuppose.com/2012/11/its-really-fun-photo-shoot-on-stormy.html
Hahaha! Those pictures are hilarious. I’ve lost several umbrellas due to the wind around here. Not sure when I’ll get smart and buy one like yours that can withstand what nature puts it through.
That trapeze class sounds fun!
My husband and I are going to a wedding tonight for his dad. No elaborate plans for us! Honestly though, we always stay in and cook together on Valentine’s day but it’s no biggie missing it this year.
I like your look today. I almost wore red but didn’t want it to scream Valentine’s day. Your look is still quite subtle. Like Kim, a skirt, top, and cardi is a uniform I’m familar with as well.
I love photo outtakes! Takes a lot of courage to post them, but so nice to identify with that personal side
I usually delete the photos I don’t like but action shots like this are too priceless not to post.
Ugh, wind. there’s just nothing good about it.
I like how you went with an outfit that doesn’t scream Valentine’s Day, the red shirt is very sweet and it looks so classic with your pearl necklace.
Seriously! I’m sure birds and flowers and everything need wind but I sure don’t!
I’m a little late catching up, but I *love* this outfit. It is so classy and cute!!
Is this something you could see yourself wearing?
