Pairing the polka dot chambray shirt with these plaid pants has been an outfit on my mind for a few months.  I loved the idea of mixing the two patterns but breaking it up by wearing the tan blazer over the top.  A great way to do pattern mixing is to do two subtle prints but add in some solids so you don’t look too crazy.

I even mentioned wanting to wear this outfit the last time I paired these plaid pants with a plain chambray shirt.  Yes, I own two chambray shirts.  No, I don’t think that’s too many.   Chambray is just so versatile.  Wear it with black jeans and boots and a scarf and you have a casual weekend outfit.  Pair it with dress pants and a blazer and you’re ready to attend a monthly meeting of your professional organization (at least, that’s what I’m doing today.  Your mileage may vary).

I really dig this look! It’s so unexpected and unique, but all the different patterns really mesh well! Two thumbs up!!!!

Thanks! I got quite a few compliments at my meeting this morning so something about it must really stand out.

You can thank Jason for the poses in these pics. I usually just stand there awkwardly :-)

You always look so darn classy! I’ve also got to hand it to you for your pattern-mixing prowess. When I saw the title of this post, I was envisioning huge polka dots and in-your-face plaid, but the patterns on both of these pieces are so quiet that the look totally works. Big fan!

Yeah, I think it’s the subtlety of the patterns that helps them work well together.

I like the kind of Western vibe of this outfit, with the brown belt, chambray and overall color palette. And no, I don’t think two chambray shirts is too many, either. :)

This belt! It totally makes the outfit, it really looks amazing with the plaid pants and the top and I love how substantial it looks. the plaid and the polka dots are really pretty together, I think this is some of the best pattern mixing I’ve ever seen, you have a very classic look going on with the patterns as opposed to a very trendy look.

You’re right, this belt really does make the outfit! I just tried to visualize it without the belt and I didn’t like it!

And thank you for the lovely compliment about the pattern mixing!

I like that shirt a lot, and until I looked closer, I didn’t even realize that the pants were plaid. I don’t have any chambray shirts, but they do sound awfully versatile!

Chambray shirts are great and are available at so many different retailers and price points. They make great layering pieces and can be dressed up or down.
