Another Inspiration Monday is upon us and another inspiration photo that didn’t work with today’s plans of presenting to a graduate school class about the field of records management (trust me, it’s a scorcher!).  So I took the idea of a dress with boots and went with that.

I also wanted to link-up with Kimmie at Blue Paper Lanterns and her “Oh, This Old Thing” link-up.  Can you guess what the oldest item in my closet is?  I’m wearing it in this outfit.

It’s the purple collared shirt!  I’ve had this shirt since high school, which means it’s at least 15 years old.  My dad gave it to me as a gift with a gray sweater.  The sweater is long gone but this shirt keeps on trucking.

What’s the oldest item in your closet?

Also, have you taken the first anniversary reader survey yet?  Results announced soon!

Wow I don’t know if I have anything from high school–that’s impressive! The outfit came together nicely! (And kudos to you for taking your photos outside on a super windy day like today!)

I really like this and I think I could replicate it for my own work! I know the purple shirt is your oldest item, but it looks great!

Wow, great interpretation! I love you are on a rooftop, too. Mine are always in my home next to my big window, because it is freezing outside, here.

Ah, shoot! I was going to guess that the dress was the oldest item. I have a t-shirt from soccer camp in 1998 that I still wear for occasional workouts, so I guess that’s actually 15 years old as well! The shirt definitely DID NOT fit me 15 years ago (they only had shirts in adult sizes), but I’ve grown into it quite well haha. That’s definitely my oldest item of clothing, though I suppose my mom’s tall black boots from her high school/college days that are now mine are technically the oldest thing I own.

Live on, purple sweater! I have dresses from high school 🙂

I like this look! I like the length of the dress with the boots a lot 🙂

that’s an interesting question…i have no idea what the oldest thing in my closet is…probably some sweatshirt or super comfy thing that i can’t bear to get rid of!

Oh, well, if we’re counting stuff that you just wear around the house then I have a sweatshirt that I inherited from my husband that predates our relationship. And we’ve been together since 1997.

Whoa, that’s awesome that the shirt has lasted you that long! My weight has yo-yo’d and I’ve moved around so much over the past decade (mostly among various Chicago apartments, but still) that I’ve done lots of closet purges. But I still have 3 skirts that I bought in late 2004/early 2005 that I do still wear pretty regularly!

Also, I really like the button-down shirt under this dress! I would never think to do that, but I just pile a cardigan on everything when I need to add warmth.

DANG! 15 years old? I think all my button-ups from way back then were such poor quality that they probably wouldn’t have lasted that long. I’m pretty sure my entire wardrobe was from the junior section at Mervyn’s and Macy’s… and a lot of things from the juniors “fake career clothes” with the super thin stretchy blazers and pencil mini skirts? YEAH. Even if I still had them I would definitely not be wanting to wear them again 😉

Love this outfit with the dress and boots! Super cute!

Hahaha! I totally know what you mean about the fake career clothes! There were totally some of those in my closet that lasted through one too many clothing purges until I moved this past May.

I’ve definitely weighed plus or minus ten pounds from my current weight in the time I’ve had this shirt but somehow it keeps fitting. Maybe it’s a magic shirt!

Whoa, 15 years? It’s really impressive! The only thing I have that’s still alive after that long is my snow pants. (Good old L.L.Bean.) You must have taken really good care of this blouse for it still to look so vibrant. I really love it as a fun pop of color under the black dress and with the tights, you look nice and warm for the cold!

I have a leather jacket that I bought in high school, either 1997 or 1998. I also have a few pairs of black dress slacks that I bought on clearance at the department store I worked at in college (around 2000) that I still wear regularly. They’ve held up incredibly for juniors pants. I have worn them about once a week for the past 8 years.
