First thing’s first: have you taken the one year anniversary reader survey yet??

In the apartment building where my husband and I live there are three floors of parking.  Jason and I park our car on the second floor.  But after taking outfit photos there last week we decided to check out the third floor to see if there was anything interesting there.  We felt like parking structure interlopers trespassing on floor three!  Of course we weren’t really trespassing.

Turns out that apparently floor three is where all the people with swanky vehicles park.  There were at least two Porsches, a big honkin’ Harley, a Pontiac GTO and this Ducati.  I don’t know much about motorcycles but my husband informed me that a Ducati is an expensive bike.  I just thought it made a good backdrop to my incredibly preppy outfit.

This outfit is also a copy of a photo that has been floating around Pinterest for awhile.

Love the stripe combo

I have no idea what the original source of this photo is (I even used Google Image Search to try and figure it out).  But I do know that many, many people have pinned it or blogged it so my outfit isn’t all that original.  But I’m down with that.  I think it’s great to see different people and different body types copy an outfit so you can see what it looks like on everyone.  And, of course, unless you have the EXACT same pieces as the original outfit you’re going to put your own spin on it.  And that’s the whole fun of using a photo to get inspired.

I never would have worn this many layers before seeing this photo but now that I have it’s a look I’m enjoying.  Especially in the winter when layers are key to keeping warm!

I really love your interpretation of this outfit! I’ve been wanting one of those necklaces for awhile. I’ve seen them all over the place… I think I just have to actually buy one! A Chambray shirt is also on my list of things to buy. I think it is such a cute look! I have some of these pieces in my closet so it isn’t too much of a stretch for me to pull this outfit together. I gotta say, since our closet consultation I’m definitely more into trying outfits from Pinterest, etc. :)

Interestingly, these necklaces are all over the place but I’ve only ever seen one other person wearing on in real life! Crazy, huh? They really make a statement with whatever outfit you’re wearing.

Sometimes I think wearing too many layers makes me look bulky and frumpy, but I might try out this idea. It looks great!

I think the key is making sure that the layers all fit you really well. If one of them is too big then, yes, you’re definitely going to look bulky!

I really LOVE this outfit! I’m dying to get a bubble necklace like that!

I love this and have pinned the look too. It’s perfection! You look great, have a good weekend!

Do you think you’ll recreate this outfit soon?

I don’t have a striped sweater, but I do have the other pieces. I’m thinking of trying it with a long sleeve striped tee I have, but haven’t try it to see if it’s cute or weird.

Mine’s actually a striped tee, too. I thought a sweater would make it too bulky.

The blazer and striped top look so good together, and looks good on you.

Thanks! Have you seen other people wear it on their blogs? I’d love to see how other people have done it.

I like the look and can understand why a lot of people have pinned it! I also saw that blazer in the flesh when I was at JCrew this past weekend. :)
And now I’m hungry for cake.

Hahahah, cake would be good right about now. My husband’s birthday was yesterday and he’s having people over tonight. He asked one of them to bring dessert. Maybe she’ll bring cake!

Thanks! It’s nice because it’s kind of a neutral. Sort of gray, sort of purple.

Classic and chic. Style touchdown! :)

I’m so glad I found your site via the #28DBC! One of my resolutions is to update my wardrobe and buy at least one new outfit each month. However, I find myself doubting what I’m doing, not sure if I’m going to end up looking like a total fool! You have put together so many cute looks on this site, I just need to get the courage to actually be able to do that myself!

My new outfit for January was posted here: http://jillwillrun.com/2013/02/01/a-bunch-of-rambling/

Do you have someone take your outfit photos? They’re so cute!

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 8, 2013 at 1:41 pm #

Thanks for commenting!! My tips for figuring out how to put together cute outfits are A. use places like Pinterest and other style blogs for inspiration, B. Try to wear three pieces (here’s an example) and C. Jewelry always perks up an outfit. I know you have a baby so you can’t really wear necklaces or earrings because of grabby hands but if you have the chance I would get some for the future.

My husband has been taking my outfit photos for the past few weeks because he’s taking a photography class and he gets to practice his photo taking skills on me. Prior to that, though, I was doing them myself with a tripod and the camera timer. We just have a point and shoot camera so nothing too fancy, though!

      • Jill Will Run February 8, 2013 at 1:56 pm #

Thanks for the tips! Yes, grabby baby hands do make accessories a little harder, but hopefully we’ll be beyond that stage soon as she learns that isn’t allowed! :-)

Oooh I can totally copy this outfit!

  12. kilax February 8, 2013 at 3:05 pm #

I never would have thought of that layering either, but I like it! I really likes stripes + blazers :)

  13. Katie @ Livehalffull February 8, 2013 at 4:24 pm #

    Absolutely adorable!

Is your chambray top polka dotted? If so, I like that combo with the stripes.

Still in love with that navy blazer.

My first thought was “Layer Cake? that was a pretty decent flick.” (It doesn’t help that the husband and I are on a serious Guy Richie kick right now. That dude can make a good movie.)
I love you next to that bike, you have sort of a badass look going on with it! (Those boots! they are killer, I love them paired with your blazer.) Your perspective is so right on about the inspiration, I love your inspiration Monday posts because you don’t straight up copy the looks but you do your own spin on them and that’s way more interesting than a item for item copy.

    • Erin @ Loop Looks February 14, 2013 at 9:40 am #

I’ve never heard of that movie!

Heeled boots are an unexpected change from flat riding boots so that might be why they stand out so much!
